Trinidad Confirms Comeback

11.03.04 – By Luke Dodemaide – At the mecca of boxing, Madison Square Garden, a great man by the name of Felix Trinidad, 31, preached words that rang like music into the hears of boxing purists all around the world, Felix Trinidad announced that later this year, he will step back through the ropes and resume his already legendary career. “Don gave me what I asked for, and here I am,” Trinidad said through an interpreter.

Don Felix, Trinidads father, has already said there is expressed interest in his son fighting high calibre opponents such as, Shane Mosley and re-matches with Oscar De La Hoya and Bernard Hopkins. Don Felix has also stated a possible meeting with Roy Jones Jnr at 175 pounds is not out of the question. “A lot of people told me we need you in boxing,” Trinidad told the press at Madison Square Garden. “I wasn’t wrong when I retired,” he said. “I just changed my mind.” Trinidad’s comeback will be at middleweight, a weight in which he became WBA champion in May 2001, before losing to that title to Bernard Hopkins in a middleweight unification match up at Madison Square Garden later that same year.

The interest in the division has only heightened since, Oscar De La Hoya announced he would be fighting Felix Sturm for the WBO title and, should he beat Sturm, De La Hoya is looking to lock horns with the ‘Executioner’ Undisputed Middleweight Champion, Bernard Hopkins September 18th. If Felix wants to get back into the action, he doesn’t have to look any further than the division he last occupied.

The smoke is still clearing after Lennox Lewis retired atop of the heavyweight mountain, but in that place where Lewis stood, as a true boxing super star after two years absent has again emerged, ready and eager to step back into the ring and fight the best boxing has to offer. Felix ‘Tito’ Trinidad is back!

Trinidad’s record is 41-1 ( 34 KO’s ), in his last fight he stopped French man Hassine Cherifi in the 4th round of their May 2002 match up.
