Stocking Stuffers for Heavyweight Fans

22.12.03 – By Wes Moore: The holiday season is upon us and the year is closing out within the heavyweight division. It is time to start thinking about the great fights of the past year and the fighters who have emerged or faded. This is also the time of the year when I wish for what might occur in the next calendar year. In reality, we rarely get exactly what we want, but sometimes we do.

Wish: Roy Jones vs. Mike Tyson

Wish: Lennox Lewis would make a decision about his future and stick to it

Wish: A unified World Heavyweight Champion

Wish: Oquendo-Byrd II so the judges could get it right this time

Wish: If not Lennox, someone else to step up and fight Vitali Klitschko

Wish: Resolution of David Tua’s management problems and a return to form

Wish: Evander hangs up the gloves for good

Wish: John Ruiz to be crowned WBA champion and having Roy Jones comeback and pepper him one more time

Wish: James Toney staying in the Heavyweight division

Wish: A stronger test for Joe Mesi

Wish: Another HBO Night of the Young Heavyweights Card

Wish: Continued progression for prospects such as Dominic Guinn, Audley Harrison, and all the others

Wish: Golotta vs. Ruiz…It would be so bad it would be good

Wish: Heavyweight Boxing to find a permanent home on cable or network television

Wish: Another Fistful of Dollars with real contenders stepping up to bang on each other for one night

Wish: Corrie Sanders-Wladimir Klitschko II

Wish: A fighter to step through the smoke and take control of the division

Wish: Increased activity for some of the division’s top fighters

There are of course many within this list that are simply for fun but we as heavyweight fans should all hope for a successful and safe 2004 within the heavyweight division. I am thankful to have a place to share my thoughts on the heavyweight scene here at East Side Boxing. I hope that I have provided some quality reading material for all the readers and want to finish this year out strong. Next week, I will provide my report card for some of the world’s top heavyweights for 2003. In 2 weeks, I will hand out hardware for the past year. I would like for these to be a reader’s choice so I am asking for you to submit a vote for the below categories.
