Broner: Nobody is talking about Maidana’s win; just my loss

Former WBA 147 lb. champion Adrien Broner (27-1, 22 KO’s) is poised to get a rematch against Marcos Maidana (35-3, 31 KO’s) on April 19th or April 26th, provided that Maidana doesn’t choose to ignore the rematch clause that the 24-year-old Broner exercised on Friday and fight someone else instead for better money. The only other fighter that Maidana could fight that would give him a bigger payday than the Broner rematch is a fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. That doesn’t seem too likely given that Amir Khan is being talked about as Mayweather’s next opponent for his Mayweather 3rd bout.

Broner is already vowing to get revenge against Maidana by turning into a type of fighter that he’s never seen before. Of course, if Broner couldn’t fight any better than he did last time then it’s hard to imagine him showing a hidden gear in a rematch.

Maidana wonders why he should give Broner a rematch

WBA welterweight champion Marcos Maidana (35-3, 31 KO’s) wonders why he should have to do Adrien Broner (27-1, 22 KO’s) a favor and give him a rematch when he wasn’t given a rematch against Amir Khan when he lost a close 12 round decision against him four years ago in 2010. Earlier today ESPN writer Dan Rafael revealed that Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer said that Broner and Maidana would be fighting a rematch in April.

Maidana finds it interesting that he’s being steered into a giving an immediate rematch against Broner, but he wasn’t given a rematch with Khan after all these years by Golden Boy. It just kind of makes you wonder whether Maidana should walk away from Broner rematch the way that Khan walked away from him. If Golden Boy wouldn’t get Maidana a rematch with Khan, then why should Maidana give Broner an immediate rematch?

Broner to fight Maidana in April rematch – Breaking News

Adrien Broner (27-1, 22 KO’s) pushed hard on Golden Boy Promotions for a rematch against Marcos Maidana (35-3, 31 KO’s) and he’s been given his wish, according to Dan Rafael of ESPN. Broner will be fighting Maidana in a fight that could possibly take place in April.

With Maidana now unofficially off the table as one of the possible options for Floyd Mayweather Jr’s May 3rd fight, it leaves Amir Khan front and center as Mayweather’s likely opponent for this date. It was pretty much a given that Khan would be the guy for Mayweather’s next date, considering how much praise Showtime’s President of Sports Stephen Espinoza had for Khan as Mayweather’s ideal opponent in an interview earlier today by Rafael.

Showtime’s Espinoza likes Khan-Mayweather fight

Stephen Espinoza, the President of Sports for Showtime, thinks Floyd Mayweather Jr. (45-0, 26 KO’s) vs. Amir Khan (28-3, 19 KO’s) on May 3rd would be a good fight for Showtime pay-per-view due to the 27-year-old Khan’s fighting style. While Espinoza still isn’t saying that he specifically prefers Khan to Marcos Maidana as Mayweather Jr’s next opponent, he does seem to be dropping an awfully big hint by praising Khan’s fighting at length in an interview with ESPN from today.

“Who will be most entertaining once the bell rings? Espinoza said to ESPN. “That’s the way we will evaluate the May fight and every fight after that. I like the Khan fight stylistically. I think Amir provides a set of challenges based on his skills that Floyd hasn’t seen in a while. For that reason, I think it will be a very entertaining fight.”

Pac-Man calls Mayweather a coward, talks trilogy and giving the fans what they want

Superstar Manny Pacquiao was speaking on the radio in his native Manila last night, talking with The Manila Times via DZAR Sunshine Radio, and the southpaw dynamo launched the most aggressive verbal assault yet on would-be ring rival Floyd Mayweather Junior.

Usually, Pacquiao is a reserved individual, refusing to speak negatively about any of his opponents, past, present or future – yet yesterday, possibly as a result of Mayweather’s recent and childishly delivered insults at his expense, Pac-Man gave Mayweather some of his own medicine.

“[Mayweather] is just a coward, insecure and envious of my accomplishments,” Pacquiao said. “I don’t like to bite [at] his gimmicks and I just want to understand him, although it’s too much. But I’m really thankful that he remembers me in some ways.”

Chisora to try and get Wladimir fight in Africa in 2014

EBU heavyweight champion Dereck Chisora (19-4, 13 KO’s) is hoping to work his way into a world title fight this year against IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (61-3, 51 KO’s). Chisora figures he could be two wins away from locking himself in as the mandatory challenger for Wladimir. Chisora specifically wants to get Wladimir over to Africa to fight him there in a repeat of the ‘Rumble in the Jungle.’

It’s kind of a crazy idea that Chisora has in wanting to get Wladimir over to Africa, because the chances of it happening are so remote that it’s kind of difficult to even fathom this taking place. For Chisora to have a chance of realizing his dream of getting Wladimir to Africa, he’ll need to beat Ukrainian Andriy Rudenko (24-0, 16 KO’s) on February 15th, and then beat Tyson Fury in a rematch next summer.

Roach wants Pacquiao vs. Robert Guerrero

Trainer Freddie Roach says that WBO welterweight champion Tim Bradley isn’t a fight that Manny Pacquiao is excited about. He feels that he already beat Bradley in their fight last year, and doesn’t think the fight will bring in big pay-per-view numbers either.

With Bradley asking for more money than they’re willing to pay, Roach says that he’d like to see Pacquiao fight Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero if that fight could be made. Roach thinks it would give Pacquiao a good opportunity to show what he an against a fighter that was able to go the full 12 rounds against Floyd Mayweather Jr. last year in May in Guerrero’s lopsided 12 round unanimous decision loss.

Broner: The rematch with Maidana will be different

Former WBA welterweight champion Adrien Broner (27-1, 22 KO’s) realizes what he did wrong in his loss last month to Marcos Maidana (35-3, 31 KO’s), and he wants to fix those problems in a rematch as soon as possible. Broner doesn’t want to fight anyone else until after he gets Maidana in the ring and proves that the loss was just a fluke thing, and not something that was indicative of him lacking super star class talent.

“A y’all bout to see me back in the ring in some weeks,” Broner said on his twitter. “And I ain’t fighting nobody until I fight Chino Maidana again. I’m a warrior. I give props when it’s due and Chino Maidana out-hustled me that night but this rematch will be different!”

Roach: Showtime/CBS will make Mayweather fight Pacquiao

Trainer Freddie Roach is thinking that Floyd Mayweather Jr. will be making a mistake if he fights Amir Khan next, because he sees that as a fight that will lose money for Showtime/CBS. Roach believes that Mayweather needs to maximize the money he makes with his last 4 fights on his Showtime/CBS contract, and the way to do that is to fight Manny Pacquiao.

“Showtime/CBS is in the business to make money,” Roach said to Radio Raheem. “They want fights like Pacquiao-Mayweather to be profitable. I think they need to make that fight happen. I think they will make Mayweather make that fight. We’ve accepted everything with the drug testing, so I don’t think there’s any more excuses for him not to fight us.”
