Fury and Chisora with a lot to lose tonight if they get beat

Tonight two of the best heavyweights in England will be in action in separate bouts with a lot on the line for both of them. England’s Dereck Chisora (19-4, 13 KO’s) has a 12 round fight against Kevin Johnson (29-4-1, 14 KO’s) in the main event at the Copper Box Arena. In the co-feature, heavyweight Tyson Fury (21-0, 15 KO’s) fights Joey Abell (29-7, 28 KO’s). The promoters for Fury and Chisora want to match them up in a fight in the Summer in a WBO heavyweight title eliminator bout, but both guys need to make sure they win their fights tonight against their less than dangerous opposition.

Both Fury and Chisora should win tonight as long as they’re smart, and can hold up under the power of their opposition. They’re decent heavyweights, Chisora and Fury, but they’re not good enough to where you can positively say they’ll win each time they’re in the ring. Fury brings drama with him because of his weak chin. It doesn’t matter that he’s never fought a good heavyweight in his career; he’s still vulnerable to getting hurt even by opposition without a lot of talent.

Tyson Fury tips-in at a heavy 274-pounds for clash with Joey Abell!

The weights are in for tomorrow’s heavyweight doubleheader in London, and the biggest shock/newsworthy item is the poundage Tyson Fury came in at.

Fury tipped-in at 274-pounds, some twenty pounds heavier than for his last fight, while his opponent Joey Abell came in at 241-pounds. Fury did not remove his shirt while weighing in.

In the chief support, Dereck Chisora, who has battled weight problems himself in the past, came in at a solid 238-pounds. His rival, Kevin Johnson, who is aiming to score the upset and ruin plans for a Chisora-Fury rematch in the summer, tipped-in at 240-pounds.

So, the Fury fight will attract most headlines and unbeaten Tyson’s weight has already done so. For those fans who like to bet on the underdog, maybe Abell is a fighter worth betting on.

Can Kevin Johnson throw a wrench in the plans for a Fury vs Chisora rematch stadium fight?

This Saturday night from the Copper Box Arena in London Dereck Chisora and Tyson Fury will be featured in stay busy fights on Box Nation.

Ok so maybe that’s not how long time U.K. promoter Frank Warren would want it phrased but that’s exactly what this card is and for those who are hardcore enough (or just bored) it will be televised here in the states by Intergrated Sports with an asking price starting at 24.99.

I can hardly blame any boxing fan for not wanting to put his or hers hard earned duckets down for this PPV.

It’s worth mentioning that in the past Intergrated Sports have at least tried to put on entertaining undercard fights to make up for a non pay per view worthy main event or co-features in this case.

Froch vs. Groves II Huge Super Middleweight clash set for the summer

Carl Froch and George Groves will meet in a rematch of their epic IBF and WBA World Super Middleweight title clash live on Sky Sports Box Office, after terms were agreed this morning.

The proposed scheduled date for one of the most hotly anticipated rematch in British boxing history is May 31, with a host of Britain’s most iconic sporting stadiums in the running to stage the contest.

Khan showing signs of desperation for Mayweather fight

It’s been four days since Amir Khan officially won the poll on Floyd Mayweather Jr’s website that supposedly gives the 27-year-old Khan the fight with the star fighter on May 3rd at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Mayweather’s silence on the issue seems to be affecting Khan judging by his recent tweets, because Khan is starting to show signs of worry with his comments. The above comment seems to be a situation where Khan is showing as much respect as possible to Mayweather. I just hope Khan doesn’t resort to referring to Mayweather as “your highness” or “your excellency.”

Froch-Groves agree on rematch on May 31st

IBF/WBA super middleweight champion Carl Froch (32-2 23 KO’s) and George Groves (19-1, 15 KO’s) have reached agreement for a rematch that is tentatively scheduled for May 31st at one of the huge outdoor football stadiums in the UK. Froch’s promoter Eddie Hearn wants to place it in a stadium that holds 80,000 and he feels that it’ll be the biggest fight ever in British boxing. Whether that’ll be or not is unknown, but what is known is that the two fighters will be splitting a huge 10 million purse for the fight. Groves’ cut of the purse is anywhere from 15-25 percent.

“The British public are behind this and this was almost the only fight out there for me to reasonably take,” Froch said to Sky Sports. “I’ve given the British public what they wanted for years and years and I won’t stop doing it now.”

Is Mayweather gambling with his legacy?

We are all waiting, if hardly anticipating, the announcement of the Mayweather V Khan bout set to take place on May 3rd. Various articles have been written by different writers on the subject and the consensus is that Khan is simply not worthy of a shot against the planet’s number one pound-for-pound boxer. This is a notion that I cannot rid from my mind, and this comes from a hardcore British boxing fan who would love to see Mayweather dethroned by a British boxer, but certainly not from an unjust gifted opportunity.

That is exactly what Khan will be handed if indeed he is given the shot and the situation will prove to be another example of the modern dealings of boxing as a business where money talks instead of a fighter’s pride in striving to be the best, by fighting only the best, as earlier decades were defined by.
