Nathan Cleverly Set To Face Andrzej Fonfara

Nathan Cleverly Set To Face Andrzej Fonfara

It’s now looking next to certain that former WBO light-heavyweight champion Nathan Cleverly will return to the ring in October against Chicago-based Pole Andrzej Fonfara in a bout that is set to be screened on Sky Sports, promoter Eddie Hearn revealed today.

Cleverly was out in a blink and you’ll miss it affair last month on the recent ‘Rule Brittania’ undercard that was headlined by Kell Brook and Frankie Gavin’s IBF welterweight clash. It was a return to 175 lb for the Welshman who flirted with an ill-advised move to cruiserweight following his 4 round destruction at the hands of Sergey Kovalev two years ago.

‘Vargas Is Out Of His Depth’ Says Tim Bradley

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BHDgtIOSDE8&feature=youtu.be

Ahead of his make or break fight this Saturday against Jessie Vargas this Saturday on HBO in US/Boxnation UK, Timothy Bradley has spoken to fighthype.com to insist that his younger rival is out of his depth and will be vastly under-prepared for the experience the 2 weight world champion is set to bring to their clash from Carson, California – that will now be for the Interim WBO 147 lb strap given Floyd Mayweather is yet to vacate the full version.

Sayonara Carl Froch

Sayonara Carl Froch

If the news comes as any surprise, then you have either been living under a rock – OR you bought into the ‘Golovkin at Wembley’ hype from the man himself – but in the surest sign yet we have seen the fighting last of Nottingham’s Cobra, promoter Eddie Hearn has gone on record to say it’s “likely Carl Froch will retire.”

We thought that might happen in fairness. At least, those of us with one foot in reality did anyway. With Golovkin’s promoter Tom Loeffler admitting talks with the Froch team have ground down to nothing and stalled – they are now looking toward a battle of the puncher’s at 160 with new IBF champion David Lemieux.

BJ Flores: Time for His In-Ring Persona to Out-Shine its Commentary Counterpart

It’s been a long time coming to say the least. BJ Flores’ career, like a bottle of Royal Lochnagar, has taken twelve years to mature. On July 25th BJ will stand across the ring from Beibut Shumenov (15-2) at the MGM Grand, headlining his very own “Premier Boxing Champions” card; as opposed to his usual post of providing commentary for these events. Most fighters take to boxing color commentary after their careers are over, Flores used his burgeoning broadcasting career to help further his pugilistic dreams.

Greatness on Display: Mayweather makes his PPV debut 10 years ago today

Greatness on Display: Mayweather makes his PPV debut 10 years ago today

By Thomas Choong: Every great fighter’s career is notably documented by their performances on the biggest stage. Though Floyd Mayweather’s detractors will belay the significance of his victory over pugilistic warrior Arturo Gatti as another over-hyped mismatch, pundits of the sweet science at the time will remember just how significant this matchup was at that time 10 years ago today .

Still promoted by Top Rank at the time, “Pretty Boy” Floyd Mayweather Jr. stood atop the pound for pound debate alongside long reigning middleweight champion Bernard Hopkins (who would lose his first bout in 12 years only three weeks later). The belt they would fight for was the WBC Super lightweight title, though few would have considered Gatti the champion of the 140 lb weight class. That distinction belonged to Ricky “Hitman” Hatton who had wrested the title from Kostya Tszyu (who had unified the WBC, WBA, and IBF belts in 2001) a mere three weeks prior. However, that did not detract from the attention that this bout garnered.

Bradley Is Intimidated Says Jessie Vargas

After expressing concerns about how much modern great Roy Jones Jr would be able to be there for him during training camp, Jessie Vargas has made the switch to another modern great – Erik Morales – employing the services of the former Mexican champion in the corner for Saturday’s fight with Tim Bradley that comes live from The StubHub centre in Carson, California – screened on HBO in the US and Boxnation in the UK.

Vargas said of the trainer switch to fighthubtv;

Could We See Deontay Wilder v Lucas Browne ?

Could We See Deontay Wilder v Lucas Browne ?

After making hard work of beating Eric Molina recently, the heavyweight division seemingly began to close in on WBC champion Deontay Wilder, with everybody from Tyson Fury to David Price and Lucas Browne all speaking out to say they feel a fight against “The Bronze Bomber” is a perfectly winnable proposition.

And it is Browne who has upped the ante more than anyone recently, taunting Wilder via his promoters and over social media directly in hope of making the fight.

Martin Murray: Working Toward Big Fights w/DeGale & Groves

He makes his debut under the Matchroom promotional banner tomorrow night in Liverpool, fighting up at 168 lb for the very first time against Georgia’s George Beroshvili in what is something of an “easing into the division” fight – yet Martin Murray has his sights on the division’s big-guns – and is hopefully looking towards big money-fights with new IBF champion James DeGale and WBC mandatory George Groves in the none too distant future.

Murray, who extended Gennady Golovkin further than any man previously when he took him 11 rounds in Monaco back in February, spoke to iFLtv about his fight tomorrow night – and just what lies in store beyond that.

How to fix “The Problem" Cincinnati’s Broner looks to regroup after losing Battle of Ohio

(Photo credit: Suzanne Teresa/Premier Boxing Champions) By Matthew Reyna: Even after another disappointing loss, Adrien “The Problem” Broner remained his polarizing self.

“This time I didn’t get the decision, but it’s OK,” Broner said. “At the end of the day, everybody in here will take my autograph and take my picture.”

The latter may be true, but his career has reached a crossroads. After another tough loss, questions are being raised about his dedication and accomplishments.

Broner, 25, is falling out of favor in the boxing world as quickly as he once climbed up the rankings.
