Former WBA and IBF featherweight world champion, Yuriorkis Gamboa, sneaks back into the boxing landscape on August 12th, when he takes on 15(7)-2(0)-1 Alexis Reyes, in the Oasis Arena, Cancun, Mexico. Far removed from his exalted position as one of the most highly regarded fighters in the game, the 35 year old Cuban is attempting to reignite his claim for a title shot against the rugged Mexican. His hopes were earlier extinguished by an upset defeat to the highly experienced and unjustly unheralded Robinson Castellanos, who stopped Gamboa in May of this year.

Paulie Malignaggi lays into former spar-mate Conor McGregor: He whimpers like a girl when ripped to the body
Former heavyweight king Mike Tyson caused something of a stir when he said, after beating up Tyrell Biggs almost 30 years ago, how his hated (at the time) rival “made woman-type gestures when I hit him to the body.” Well, Paulie Malignaggi, via twitter, has fired similar shots at MMA star/soon to become a boxer, Conor McGregor.
Guillermo Rigondeaux talks Lomachenko: I will stop this guy
Unbeaten and avoided super-bantamweight ruler Guillermo Rigondeaux was not too impressed with Vasyl Lomachenko’s hugely dominant stoppage win over massive underdog Miguel Marriaga. Though Lomachenko supporters are heaping praise on the super-featherweight for his latest performance, fellow southpaw Rigondeaux says Lomachenko did as expected (check) and needs to fight better opposition (check).
Vasyl Lomachenko dazzles again in crushing Miguel Marriaga; “Hi-Tech” expected to be back in December
Vasyl Lomachenko did it again last night: he destroyed a very capable if not exceptional fighter with nothing short of dazzling efficiency. The Ukrainian southpaw defended his WBO super featherweight belt against Colombia’s Manuel Marriaga, a whopping 100/1 underdog, and the pound-for-pound star did as expected; forcing his challenger to remain on his stool at the conclusion of the 7th round.
Results: Lomachenko stops Marriaga
WBO super featherweight champion Vasyl “Hi-Tech” Lomachenko (9-1, 7 KOs) took featherweight Miguel Marriaga (25-3, 21 KOs) to school on Saturday night in handing him his second consecutive loss in stopping him at the end of the 7th round at the Microsoft theater in Los Angeles, California.
Lomachenko toyed with Marriaga for 6 rounds until upping the pressure on him in the 7th to get a knockdown. Marriaga didn’t look hurt. He went down from an accumulation of punches. Nevertheless, Marriaga was taking a lot of machine gun type punches to the head and body from Lomachenko, and he didn’t have the hand speed or the work rate to keep him off of him.
Unsung Gems in the Ring
Throughout boxing history “big” names have always garnered mass attention, searing themselves in social memory. Tyson, Holyfield, Foreman, Mayweather, Jones Jr., Pacquiao, De La Hoya and Mosley were, and still are, huge names both in and out of boxing. However, while they captured the headlines, and deservedly so, there were quite a few guys who deservednotoriety who either received their just due a little too late or never received it at all. Fighters like Winky Wright, Vernon Forrest, Lamon Brewster, Ricardo Lopez, Mike McCallum and many others are sometimes forgotten in conversations about great or exciting fighters from certain eras.

Jarrell Miller: I guarantee I would knock Joshua out inside seven or eight rounds
Unbeaten heavyweight contender Jarrell Miller has been talking, again. The massive New Yorker known as “Big Baby,” is targeting two British fighters, in Dillian Whyte and Anthony Joshua. Whyte, beaten only by Joshua, called out Miller and the 298-pounder told Sky Sports he is more than happy to fight, and KO, Whyte.
