Gallagher: If we pull it off on Saturday, I'd expect a call from Mayweather

It seems practically nobody in the boxing world truly believes superstar Floyd Mayweather Junior is really retired. Mayweather, the last time anyone asked him, insisted he is indeed “done” and is content now helping out his growing stable of young fighters. Yet still the 49-0 great is expected by many to return to the ring for fight number-50. Not only that, but plenty of fighters are hoping they will get a date with “Money” (Manny Pacquiao recently stating how he wants a rematch with Floyd).

Tyson Fury a no-show at presser, Klitschko says “If it doesn't happen in October, I will wait”

There was a press conference in London today, to promote the return fight between Tyson Fury and Wladimir Klitschko, now back on (we hope) for October 29 in Manchester. But only one half of the match-up turned up, as Fury had “car trouble” and was a no-show. Fury is said to have broken down on the motorway, his phone battery dead. Co-promoter Mick Hennessey explained how the unfortunate circumstances were simply beyond the heavyweight champion’s control.

Anger over Chris Eubank Junior’s “shameful” tweet!

Anger over Chris Eubank Junior's “shameful” tweet!

Reigning British middleweight champ Chris Eubank Junior has caused outrage with a tweet he put out regarding Saturday’s Gennady Golovkin-Kell Brook fight; or rather the ending to the bout. As fans know, Brook’s trainer and corner-man Dominic Ingle threw in the towel as his fighter, who had sustained a broken eye socket, was taking heavy punishment in round-five.

Eubank, who has again called out GGG (this despite not signing the contract for the September fight in time, thus Brook got the shot instead) couldn’t resist having a go at Brook and his team:

Golovkin – Brook: Brave but broken, Kell Brook will have surgery on his broken eye socket

Golovkin - Brook: Brave but broken, Kell Brook will have surgery on his broken eye socket

Kell Brook gave it a damn fine shot last night, as he challenged the fierce, relentless punching machine that is the unbeaten (unbeatable?) middleweight king Gennady Golovkin. Showing the kind of admirable grit that makes fight fans so passionate about the sport of boxing, the outgunned challenger met fire with fire.

Brook really had no choice but to fight back as best he could, as GGG was soon showing off his superb ability at cutting off the ring, giving the faster Brook no room to work.

Eddie Hearn: They all want a fortune! – promoter says it’s tough getting a foe for Joshua’s November defence

Eddie Hearn: They all want a fortune! - promoter says it's tough getting a foe for Joshua's November defence

Promoter Eddie Hearn has important matters at middleweight to deal with at the moment – namely his fighter Kell Brook’s audacious challenge for the world title against Gennady Golovkin tonight at The O2 – but the Matchroom boss is also working on the next fight for IBF heavyweight ruler Anthony Joshua. Joshua, 17-0(17) will fight in Manchester on November 26th, but so far Hearn has not been able to nail down the opponent.

Speaking with The Express, Hearn said that all three shortlisted challengers: Kubrat Pulev, Bermane Stiverne and IBF mandatory challenger Joseph Parker, are asking for “a fortune.” As a result, Hearn admits it’s been hard getting the opponent nailed down.

Face-to-Face at the weigh-in: Brook says he could “see fear” in Golovkin’s eyes

Face-to-Face at the weigh-in: Brook says he could “see fear” in Golovkin's eyes

What to make of today’s official weigh-in for tomorrow’s hugely fascinating and potentially thrilling Gennady Golovkin-Kell Brook middleweight battle? The weights were pretty much as expected, although it was perhaps a little surprising seeing welterweight Brook tip-in heavier than the world middleweight ruler; even if it was by less than a pound. Brook, though, looks absolutely magnificently conditioned, muscular, ripped and ready.

Brook has that glow about him that only a peaking, fully fit pro athlete can have. Golovkin pretty much looked his usual self, despite promoter Eddie Hearn’s belief that GGG “looked a little drawn” yesterday. Both men looked in fantastic, ready to go shape as they stood on the scales. Brook, however, said he could see fear in the eyes of the feared KO artist who will be having his first pro fight in England tomorrow night.

Eddie Hearn: Maybe I'm clutching at straws, but I thought GGG looked a little bit drawn

Today in London, Gennady Golovkin and Kell Brook came together for the final press conference ahead of Saturday night’s big fight, and Brook’s promoter Eddie Hearn came away with a little bit of added confidence, due to how he felt Golovkin looked physically. Brook, as fans know, is looking great: “massive, strong and serious,” in the words of Golovkin himself. But Hearn, in speaking with Sky Sports after the press conference had come to an end, said he felt GGG did not look great; in fact, Hearn said his personal opinion is that Triple-G might have struggled a little in getting his weight down to 160.
