David Price In ‘Make Or Break’ Fight This Friday

David Price In 'Make Or Break' Fight This Friday

Since two devastating back-to-back knockout losses at the hands of wily old American veteran Tony Thompson in 2013, David Price’s career has been undergoing something of a ‘rebuild’, and Friday night sees the first real test of those efforts to get back on track, when the giant Scouser fights unbeaten German Erkan Teper for the vacant European heavyweight title in Ludwigsburg, Germany.

Speaking of the fight in ‘The Liverpool Echo’ recently, Price knows that defeat will end any chance of ever achieving the lofty heights that many boxing writers and trade insiders had once predicted for him.

Thurman: ‘I Felt Like Mayweather Against Mosley’

Thurman: 'I Felt Like Mayweather Against Mosley'

It would seem that in many corners of the boxing press, people are turning on Florida’s Keith Thurman following his victory Saturday night over veteran southpaw Luis Collazo. Some of the very same people who believed him to be the 2nd coming are now seemingly changing their mind after witnessing “One Time” overcome a scare at the end of the 5th round, that saw the wind knocked out of his sails from a big shot to the body – with Collazo’s assault only halted by the bell.

It was proof of Thurman once again overcoming adversity in a fight – as he did back in March against Robert Guerrero, fighting on and winning with a nasty head injury. On Saturday he did incredibly well to stay on his feet.

Mosley picks Malignaggi to beat Danny Garcia

Mosley picks Malignaggi to beat Danny Garcia

Sugar Shane Mosley thinks former two division world champion Paulie Malignaggi (33-6, 7 KOs) will come out on top in his fight next month against unbeaten Danny Garcia (30-0, 17 KOs) on August 1st at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Garcia, 27, is the favorite to win the fight though based on his superior punching power, youth and the fact that he’s unbeaten. Garcia has beaten some tough fighters recently in Lamont Peterson and Lucas Matthysse, both of which would likely be favored to beat Malignaggi if they were to fight.

The only way Mosley is going to be correct with his prediction of Malignaggi beating Garcia is if Malignaggi is able to develop his punching power enough to hurt Garcia. I don’t think that’s possible though. Malignaggi has never been a big puncher even when he fought in the 140 pound division. At 34, he’s probably not going to be any stronger than he was in the past.

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. vs. Marcos Reyes this Saturday on Showtime, in El Paso, Texas

(Photo credit: Jayne Kamin-Oncea/SHOWTIME) #5 WBC, #10 WBA super middleweight contender Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (48-2-1, 32 KOs) will be attempting to revive his career this Saturday night in a 10 round bout against Marcos Reyes (33-2, 24 KOs) on Showtime from the Don Haskins Center in El Paso, Texas. This fight is very important for Chavez Jr. because he lost his last fight in April to Andrzej Fonfara by a 9th round knockout, and he can ill afford to lose another fight.

Chavez Jr. was supposed to win that fight in the eyes of a lot of boxing fans, but he wasn’t even competitive with the Polish light heavyweight. It was a slaughter from the word go. Chavez Jr. later blamed the loss on his poor conditioning and Fonfara being too big and strong for him, but it seemed more of a case of Chavez Jr. not having the right skills for the job.

Thurman wants Amir Khan, willing to fight him in UK

After being compared in an unfavorable way to Amir Khan in how he did in beating Luis Collazo last year, WBA welterweight champion Keith Thurman (26-0, 22 Kos) says he’s ready to fight Khan next if he’s interested in fighting, and he’ll travel to the UK to fight Khan at Wembley Stadium in London if he’s willing to take the fight.

Thurman, 26, has taking a lot of heat from boxing fans due to the way he looked against Collazo last Saturday night in beating him by a harder than expected 8th round TKO at the USF Sundome Arena in Tampa, Florida. To be sure, Thurman got the victory, but he also was hurt by Collazo in the 5th, and he ran from the 34-year-old fighter through most of.

Thurman waiting for phone call from Mayweather

Thurman waiting for phone call from Mayweather

A day after his victory over Luis Collazo (36-7, 19 KOs) last night on Premier Boxing Champions on ESPN, unbeaten WBA welterweight champion Keith Thurman (26-0, 22 KOs) is patiently waiting by the phone for undefeated boxing legend of the sport Floyd Mayweather Jr. (48-0, 26 KOs) to call him and say he’s going to fight him on September 12th rather than someone like Karim Mayfield and Andre Berto.

Thurman, who did not shine against Collazo, feels that he would give Mayweather an exciting fight that the boxing public would want to see for September. Thurman believes that his ability to box as well as punch would make it difficult for the 38-year-old Mayweather to deal with him. Thurman compares himself to Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, who Mayweather beat two years ago. But the Thurman believes he’s got better conditioning, movement and boxing skills compared to the 24-year-old Canelo.
