Austin Trout Talks 2015, Anthony Mundine and More

Fresh off his stoppage victory over Luis Grajeda almost a fortnight ago, former WBA junior middleweight champion Austin ‘No Doubt’ Trout (28-2, 15 KOs) is keen to get back in the world title picture in the new year.

Speaking to Australian radio station SEN1116 on Monday, Trout is keen to rematch either or both of the two fighters who delivered his first career losses in 2013, Saul Alvarez and Erislandy Lara. He states “we want to climb and go forward. I’m trying to get to the level I was back in 2013 but except we are going to erase those losses and take wins…We’re trying to get back to (the) world title and we’re trying to get back to the big names.”

MS: Everything has been great baby, just constantly striving to put myself back in position to fight for a world title.

Congrats on your latest win over Alex Leapai. How does it feel to get back in the mix bro?

MS: Thanks man, It was a good win against Leapai even though I was slightly disappointed that I didn’t get the stoppage like I promised but I broke my right hand in the 4th round so I just used my God-given skills to finish getting the job done but like I always say I find it rather sexy to go to another man’s country or home town and annihilate him in front of his own people.

Recently, I had the pleasure to sit down with the boxing stars Cindy and Amanda Serrano at their home turf, Gym X, where they spend countless hours honing their craft.

I found them to be engaging, quick witted and passionate about their own personal stories. Lastly, as the ladies would later point out being blessed with good looks doesn’t hurt either.

How much of a mark the sisters can stamp out to help propel female boxing into the mainstream remains uncertain. One thing that is certain, this duo has the talent, growing fan base and the “it factor charm”, making them a very marketable package in and out of the ring.

Diego has been training for three months and arrives in Las Vegas this weekend. I know Tim is extremely focused on this fight – it’s the most important fight of his career because it’s the next fight in his career. This, along with two other fights that are really intriguing – the WBO middleweight championship fight between Matt Korobov and Andy Lee and the WBA interim super lightweight title battle between defending champion Mauricio Herrera and undefeated Jesse Benavidez Jr. – are both 50/50 fights. So without further ado, the great Tim Bradley, who after this call will be watching his favorite team as well as mine, the Dallas Cowboys, who also need a big win tonight.

Interview: Joseph Parker Discusses His Upcoming Fight With Costa Junior

This strange life, such is the itinerant and transient schedule of the professional fighter which constitutes Joseph Parker’s life nowadays: He lives and trains in Las Vegas with Coach Kevin Barry, has fought in three different countries over the course of 2014 and now we find him on a Saturday afternoon in a deserted ballroom at Auckland’s Pullman hotel, just he and Barry hitting the mitts and making small talk along way.

Kevin and Joseph have been generous enough to invite us into camp on a couple of occasions now and each time I’ve been struck by how light and humorous the tone is. As an example Kevin mentions Kiwi golfing phenom Lydia Ko who recently collected a $1.5 million dollar payday on the women’s LPGA and Joseph’s eyes light up as he quips to Kevin that ‘maybe it isn’t too late for us to turn to golf!’

David Lemieux – Camp has been going great. I’m in the best shape right now I have ever been. I’ve trained very well against Fernando Guerrero, but nothing like I’ve been training now and I’ve reached some highpoints that I never thought I could reach and become so strong. My punches are coming off very, very well. And I’ve been doing some 10-rounds, 12-rounds sparring. We’re ready for anything. The shape is there, the endurance is there, and the power is more there than ever.

So, this is going to be an exciting fight for the fans and for everybody, and it’s going to be brutal. I’m very excited to be back in the ring. It’s the first time in the US as a pro so it’s going to be very interesting fighting at the Barclays Center on HBO for a main event. I’m very confident that I did everything I had to do. I’m not fighting for the fans; me, I’m fighting for my family. I want to feed my children. So I know that whatever I do is going to reward the fans and make sure that the fans are always satisfied because, as a pro, I’m there to do the best I can do. So let’s get down to business on December 6th.

Gabriel Rosado – I’m having a great camp, I’m excited about this fight. This is the last week of sparring and I’m just ready to roll.

Q – Can you talk about the difficulty and maybe the hesitance in parting ways with a trainer you’ve worked with so long?

G. Rosado – Yes, Billy Briscoe, he was my trainer for about 10 years. But it just kind of got to the point where I just felt that it wasn’t anything personal, it’s just business and I thought that in order for me to take it to that next level, I had to make a move. And Jesse Reid is one of the best trainers in the world. He’s trained 25 World Champions and it’s funny how it just worked out.

Question: How do you study Hopkins?

Sergey Kovalev: “I don’t study anybody. It is better to go to the gym to do some work for my shape or spend time to cook my breakfast or sleep in my bed. Why I need to spend the time?”
