Quigg: Hoping Frampton Fight Finally Happens in February

2nd tier WBA super-bantamweight champion, Scott Quigg, and IBF 122 lb boss, Carl Frampton are said to be looking at a Manchester venue and February date for their UK mega-fight, with Quigg saying it is ‘closer than it ever has been.’

Over the last weeks and months, the fight has shifted further away, then closer again, with a neutral venue of appropriate size one of the many sticking points between the two camps, although the Bury fighter has told Sky Sports that he is confident the fans will get to see this fight early in 2016.

“With a fight like this, negotiations are always going to be difficult, even to the smaller things, but it’s the furthest it’s ever been. The venues are being talked about – Manchester towards the end of February, so the dates are being set. We’re nearly there.,” he said.

“You want to be involved in those big fights. This has been building since I was British champion and he was Commonwealth champion so it’s been building and brewing for a long time.”

Quigg and Frampton both boxed on opposite sides of the Atlantic on the same night in July, with the Northern Irishman overcoming a sticky start to beat Alejandro Gonzalez Jr on points in his US debut, while Quigg destroyed former Frampton foe Kiko Martinez in two rounds, after his own, shaky opener.

“This is the time now, we’re both undefeated, we’re both world champions. I don’t think there is any better timing and everybody wants to see it. It’s the biggest fight in British boxing alongside Kell Brook and Amir Khan,” Quigg added.
