Liverpudlian super-middleweight contender, Rocky Fielding, has promised he will enter next months crunch domestic British title fight with bitter rival and fellow Scouser, Callum Smith, looking for fireworks.

Promoter Eddie Hearn deserves credit for pitching the two unbeaten 168 lb-er’s together in what represents a real grudge match for not only the city of Liverpool, but British boxing generally, with the winner inching one step closer to an eventual world title shot.

“It’s a great fight, one I am confident that I can win, and I think I will knock him out,” said Fielding, who was last seen in June, blitzing America’s Brian Vera.

Smith, part of the four fighting brothers from the city that includes WBO 154lb champion, Liam, also appeared on the aforementioned June bill, beating Frenchman Christopher Rebrasse on points in his biggest test to date.

It was not a performance that overly impressed his rival however.

“He’s a good fighter, he’s doing his thing, and I knew that they would say they have not seen anything different from me,” Fielding said. “But when we get in there they will see what I am capable of.

“He’s been putting away blown up middleweights with his body shots. He put Rebrasse down with one but he got up. Take that away and what has he got?

“When I come in throwing shots from different angles and with both hands, I’ve been knocking people clean out.

“The city has wanted a massive fight for years and we’re going to deliver it,” he added.

Smith vs Fielding is part of Matchroom’s “Who’s Fooling Who” Nov. 7 card from Liverpool’s Echo Arena. It will be broadcast live on Sky Sports.
