Dan: “Don, you have been around boxing for many decades and have been involved with some of the greatest fighters of all time. So, when Broner steps into the ring with Hutchinson, what are you hoping to see?”

King: “I want to see him be himself because he was a full-time individual champion of four different weight categories of the world. Let us restore the glory of yesteryear and bring it back here to the head, to the floor.”

The conversation intensified as King continued to elaborate on his vision.

King: “I want to see him please the people. It’s really what counts for me. The people are my most important assets. I promote the people because they are the most important.”

As the discussion shifted towards the importance of the people’s champion, King stressed that each fight is more than just a physical confrontation. It is a manifestation of the relationship between the fighter and the audience.

Dan: “What types of fights do you think you can get for him if everything goes well against Hutchinson?”

King: “When he wins the heart of the people, he becomes the people’s Champion. Sanction bodies like the WBC, WBA, IBO, IBF, WBO, are important. But to be sanctioned, you’ve got to be sanctioned in the heart, in the mind of the people.”

The discussion revealed how popular fighters attract the attention of major boxing organizations and prospective opponents.

King: “The Champions are calling me now to get him if Broner comes through. They know that it means M-O-N-E-Y to them.”

Towards the end of the conversation, King advised Broner to focus on his skills and the people.

King: “I want to see you throw left hooks, right hands, and jabs to keep him off balance and do what you know you can do. Focus on the people.”

This candid conversation between Dan Rafael and Don King illuminated the deeply human elements at play in the world of boxing. Beyond physical prowess and technical skill, King emphasized the importance of connection with the audience and the embodiment of one’s true self. His views underscore that boxing is not only a contest of strength and strategy, but also a dance of emotions and shared human experience.
