Veteran heavyweight says he wants to move into promoting once his career ends

Derek Chisora is already mapping out his next move, and it has nothing to do with stepping back into the ring.

The 42-year-old heavyweight, who faces Deontay Wilder on April 4 in what he has described as the final fight of his career, said he plans to pursue a role in promotion once he walks away from boxing. Rather than staying within the traditional structure, Chisora pointed directly at a new player entering the sport.

“I’m going to ask Zuffa to see if they give me a job to promote for them,” Chisora said to Fight Hub TV. “Dana, can I have a job? Please have a job.”

Zuffa, the parent company of the UFC led by Dana White, has recently made moves into boxing, setting up a potential alternative platform outside the established promoters. Chisora made it clear he would be willing to take on a hands-on role if given the opportunity.

Chisora has already flirted with managing fighters. Being the “head of recruitment” for Zuffa in Europe would give him immense power to steer young talent in the direction of the company.

Like Oscar De La Hoya or Bernard Hopkins, he can be the “promoter” who stands on stage and sells the fight. He’s better at it than almost anyone.

“First one can be Eddie versus Dana,” he said. “I would deal with anybody in London for you.”

Zuffa Boxing is clearly targeting the UK. They’ve already run shows at the Meta APEX and are eyeing international expansion. Chisora knows every manager, trainer, and venue fixer in London. He’s the “key” to the city for an American company trying to plant a flag there.

Chisora has spent more than two decades in the heavyweight division, sharing the ring with multiple top names and building a reputation for taking tough fights. His comments suggest he is looking to carry that same approach into the business side, positioning himself as a link between fighters and events in the UK.

He also dismissed any idea that a strong performance against Wilder would extend his career, insisting his decision to retire is already made, regardless of the outcome.

The focus for Chisora appears to be shifting away from fights and toward staying involved in the sport from the other side of the ropes, with promotion now firmly on his radar.
