Brook needs a victory in this fight to move forward for another shot against IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander.
Brook fought a won an IBF eliminator last year in defeating Hector Saldivia. But then unfortunately Brook suffered two injuries that got in the way of his title shot against Alexander. This time Brook intends on making the most of his opportunities by beating the 36-year-old Senchenko, and then finally getting his shot against Alexander.
Unbeaten welterweight contender Kell Brook had an open workout in his native Sheffield earlier today, training in front of enthusiastic fans at a big shopping mall. Brook said afterwards that he is “counting down the days” to his October 26th bout with Ukraine’s Vyacheslav Senchenko and that he is relishing the idea of the Ricky Hatton conqueror giving him a stern test.
Brook, 30-0(20) said he aims to avenge the 9th-round KO Senchenko scored over Hatton last November.
“I’m feeling great. It really gets me up when I come to Meadowhall, seeing all the fans come out,” Brook said to Sky Sports. “Training’s gone really well and I’m ready. I’ve a lot of respect for Senchenko, he’s a proven champion and ex-world champion. He’s come over here and he’s got a point to prove like he had last time with Ricky Hatton. I now want to get revenge for the fans and also for myself. I want to go out there and show why I’m talked about at the elite level.”
First off I will start in congratulating Kell Brook on decent performance against a very tough, strong and always game Carson Jones. Even though Kell was fighting at a catch weight of 152 lbs due to injuries preventing him from having a successful training camp he still managed to look good at a weight he is not ready move up to just yet!
As fan of blood and guts warriors i would like to mention a thank you to Carson Jones for taking the 2nd fight and even agreeing to fight at a higher weight this time to suit the bookies favourite fighter to win, if Jones had not taken this fight due to the added stipulations it would have raised numerous questions amongst the fans about Kell’s desire to be a true champion and his promotional teams confidence regarding Kell’s talent. I can only hope Jones got paid well for the fight and gets some good fights going forward to further his career.
By Shaun Campbell: Kell Brook impressively closed a chapter on his career Saturday night by stopping the durable Carson Jones in their 152 pound rematch. Brook now moves in to the elite level by beating the gatekeeper Jones. It was a good performance from “The Special One”, although he himself claimed it was “nothing to get excited about”. The fight started off much like their first encounter with Brook dominating behind the jab, while Jones kept plodding forward. But the Sheffield fighter couldn’t seem to miss with his sweeping right hook and in the 2nd round he sent Jones to the canvas.
It seemed as thought it would be an early night for Brook. But the American is tough, and after a slow start began to loosen up and land on Brook, doing damage to his nose. But Brook remained calm and controlled the action at a measured pace. Should he have chose to step it up earlier, the stopped could have probably come much sooner. But in the 8th a series of unanswered punches by Brook forced the referee to call a halt, prompting complaints from Jones.

Looking “Special” indeed at times, Brook – who impressed with his left jab and his right hooks to the head – advanced to 30-0(20). Perhaps more importantly, is the “big name” an “excited” Eddie Hearn spoke of having lined up for Brook in Sheffield in his next bout in September.
Already, fans are wondering who this big name will be (Hearn is expected to make announcement this week). Brook’s main goal is of course to fight for and win a world title, but the September bout doesn’t figure to be a title shot. Instead, look for Brook to attempt to bag himself a valuable, statistically impressive win over a “name” and then get his long-awaited shot at world glory.
Undefeated Kell Brook (30-0, 20 KO’s) took out his frustration at missing a title shot against Devon Alexander by destroying #8 IBF, Carson Jones (35-10-3, 25 KO’s) by an 8th round TKO tonight at the MS3 Craven Park in Hull, England. The fight ending was marred when referee Michael Alexander stepped in and stopped the fight while Jones was still fighting back in the 8th.
Jones had his back to the ropes and had just taken some hard shots, but he still looked fine and had his guard up. The referee didn’t like the way he looked and pulled the plug at 1:07 of the round.
#8 IBF Carson Jones (35-9-3, 25 KO’s) must have pulled out some of his old Rocky tapes to get one Ivan Drago’s lines to use on #1 IBF, welterweight contender Kell Brook (29-0, 19 KO’s) at their final press conference to hype their rematch on Saturday night at the Craven Park Stadium, Yorkshire, UK.
Former IBF/WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan makes it perfectly clear that he doesn’t have even the slightest amount of interest in facing fellow Brit Kell Brook at any time in the future.
Khan sees no upside in such a fight and fears that the boxing public wouldn’t care about the fight and Brook would likely pull out of the fight with an injury excuse anyway. Khan’s main interest is in getting a big fight against WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. next year.
