pac76 After witnessing Floyd Mayweather Jr. make numerous posts poking fun at Manny Pacquiao as well as other possible opponents using his Twitter account, it is no secret that he is trying hard. But what is he trying to do?

While it is not uncommon for competition, whether it’s boxing, basketball, or any other competitive sport, to try and devalue their opponent using various online social tools such as Twitter and Facebook, usually there is a quick and direct response from the other party, offending right back.

In what could be a sign that that Floyd Mayweather Jr. is still undecided about who he plans on fighting on May 3rd, he posted 3 tweets today showing himself fighting Amir Khan, Manny Pacquiao and Marcos Maidana, and writing captions that showed how little he thought of them as potential opponents for him. As you can see from Mayweather’s caption, he feels that Maidana would be little more than a side order for him to beat. As for Khan, Mayweather sees himself knocking him out.

If Marcos Maidana ends up being the one that faces Floyd Mayweather Jr. in his next pay-per-view bout on Showtime on May 3rd, Sergio Martinez sees Mayweather as having problems in trying to beat him. Sergio, a tough fighter from Argentina, thinks Maidana won’t be an easy out for Mayweather if he chooses to face him.

Mayweather hasn’t revealed whether he’ll face Maidana or an arguably weaker test in Amir Khan, but fans have pretty much spoken with their desire not to see Mayweather fight Khan. Maidana would be an upgrade over Khan despite the fact that Khan beat him three years ago.

Toughness of mind and skill in facing toughest oppositions are equal to gallantry. It is the virtue most supreme and compatible to boxing as a combat sport. Thus beyond ring performances, gallantry should be topmost as criteria in choosing the Fighter (not “Fighter”) of the Year award.

How can a boxer who avoids toughest oppositions ever be thought of being “so good” to be considered Fighter of the Year for 2013 or any year? How can he be awarded as the best from the year he started shying away from solidly genuine challenges up to the year he refuses to fight a fellow boxer that the entire world has been longing to see him fight, for as long as the fight makes sense and matters?

Mayweather: Broner’s loss made him more famous

Floyd Mayweather Jr. wants to rebuild little Mayweather [Adrien Broner] by keeping him away from Marcos Maidana, by moving him down to 140, and having him fight on his next pay-per-view card on May 3rd. Mayweather thinks Broner can be brought back to his former status as one of boxing’s youngest up and coming stars, but he feels that he needs to be in the right weight class. If Broner can win a world title at 140 against someone like IBF light welterweight champion Lamont Peterson, Broner would be a 4 division world champion.

In a way, Mayweather feels that Broner’s loss to Maidana has made Broner and even bigger star than he was before the fight, because Broner showed so much heart in the fight.

“To be honest, the loss made him [Broner] more famous,” Mayweather said to Fight Hype. “The loss brought him more notoriety. So like I said, fame can be a gift and a curse. Now it’s a gift. It brought him more notoriety…everybody been talking about nothing but Adrien Broner.”

Does Mayweather need to fight Pacquiao for his legacy?

Dan Rafael of ESPN pointed out recently that Floyd Mayweather Jr. (45-0, 26 KO’s) with his fame and fortune will never be able to have a legacy because he’s failed to fight Manny Pacquiao (55-5-2, 38 KO’s). I’m not sure that a fight against Pacquiao is really needed for Mayweather to cement his legacy.

The only thing good that could come out of a Pacquiao-Mayweather fight now is that it would attract a lot of fan interest, but it wouldn’t mean much for Mayweather’s legacy to beat Pacquiao now. Pacquiao has lost 2 out of his last 3 fights, and his promoter Bob Arum had to back him off of good opposition and put him in against one of his struggling Top Rank stable fighters Brandon Rios for Pacquiao to stop losing.

Schaefer: Pacquiao-Mayweather fight can’t happen unless Pacquiao is a free agent

pac6721 Floyd Mayweather Jr. said this past week that he won’t bother fighting Manny Pacquiao as long as he’s still being promoted by Bob Arum of Top Rank. Mayweather simply doesn’t want to work with Arum for some reason. Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer is coming out saying that there won’t be a Mayweather-Pacquiao fight until Pacquiao is no longer with Top Rank.

This is a pity because if you listen to some of Pacquiao’s interviews, he seems like he’s committed to stay with Top Rank. His contract with them expires next years, but many boxing fans see him saying with them until the end of his contract. However, Pacquiao surprised people earlier this year in letting his strength and conditioning coach Alex Ariza go, so it’s possible that Pacquiao might do something unexpected like move on when his contract with Top Rank expires in 2014.

Richardson thinks Khan doesn’t have to beat Mayweather to come out ahead

khan5 Trainer Naazim Richardson isn’t giving Amir Khan much of any chance of beating Floyd Mayweather Jr. if he’s the one that ends up fighting Mayweather in his next fight on May 3rd in Las Vegas. To Richardson, he feels that Khan will come out ahead just by giving Mayweather problems in the fight.

“His [Khan] reputation is so bad,” Richardson said to Hustleboss. “He doesn’t have to win. He just has to do well so people will say he’s back on track. I don’t think he can beat Floyd. He has to reassert himself as a player in the game.”

Marquez says no to Pacquiao fight

Top Rank promoter Bob Arum is going to need to look in another direction for his fighter Manny Pacquiao for his April 12th fight in Las Vegas, because Juan Manuel Marquez has his mind made up about not wanting to fight Pacquiao again.

There was some that believed that Marquez would eventually change his mind about fighting Pacquiao a fifth time if Arum waived enough money under Marquez’s nose, but it doesn’t look like Marquez wants the fight judging by his comments.

Everyone has price though, and I’m sure that Arum could persuade Marquez to take the fight if he gave him a 50-50 deal. Would Arum do that to get Marquez to agree to another fight with Pacquiao?

Why Floyd Won’t Fight Maidana?

The pure boxer is unable to keep him off due to his lack of punching power and the pressure fighter is able to do what he does best: SWARM. I feel this is the reason why Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Marcos Maidana would be an epic battle of huge proportions.

Maidana is coming off a huge winning streak and he really showed a lot of mental toughness and skill by handing Floyd’s Lil Brother Adrien Broner his first loss. This has huge potential as being a big fight. The older brother steps in after the big school yard bully beats up the younger brother. Can the bully beat up the older brother? Lets take a look at history to see what might happen in this fight.
