Stiverne Proves 1st Win No Fluke – Stops Arreola in 6th

Stiverne Proves 1st Win No Fluke - Stops Arreola in 6th

(Photo credit: Tiffany Lam) Bermane “B Ware” Stiverne’s 24-1-1 (21KO) toughest task saturday night at USC Galen Center, Los Angeles, California seemed to be getting off the canvas himself. He put himself there collapsing, completely overjoyed with his 6th round stoppage of Chris “The Nightmare” Arreola 36-4-0 (31KO). The end came at 2:02 of the 6th round, when referee Jack Reiss stopped the fight.

The end came abruptly. Arreola had been doing a good job, winning rounds by being busier. Arreola was rocked in the early rounds by a left hook, but that seemed to wake him up, so he was a bit more cautious. But, it didn’t stop the ongoing chatter between the two. At one point, Chris smiled and raised his eyebrows in a gesture of confidence. He seemed to be enjoying himself.

Stiverne stops Arreola in 6th

(Photo credit: Tiffany Lam) Chris Arreola (36-4, 31 KO’s) made the mistake of standing directly in front of the big hitting Bermane Stiverne (24-1-1, 21 KO’s) and he paid for it tonight by getting stopped in the 6th round for their fight for the vacant WBC heavyweight title strap at the USC Galen Center, in Los Angeles, California, USA. Arreola was put on the canvas twice in the 6th, and the fight was stopped after Stiverne hit a totally defenseless Arreola with a couple of more shots. Referee Jack Reiss had seen enough and stepped in and stopped the bout at 2:00 of the round.

In the first knockdown in the 6th, Stiverne clipped Arreola with a tremendous right hand to send him down. It was a looping shot that Arreola didn’t seem to see until too late. As Arreola was picking himself off the canvas, Stiverne stood directly behind Reiss waiting to pounce on Arreola. Reiss turned around and gave Arreola a hard shove to get him to go to the neutral corner.

Stiverne-Arreola II fight week coverage – Weigh In

Weigh-ins for the WBC heavyweight title bout between Bermane Stiverne and Chris Arreola took place this afternoon at the Radisson Midtown near the USC campus in Los Angeles, where the action will take place tomorrow night. Both men came in lighter than they weighed for their first bout last April, showing just how serious the fighters are taking this rematch.

Arreola stepped onto the scale first, weighing in at 239, his trimmest physique in years. By comparison, “The Nightmare” came into the first match with Stiverne at 248, and tipped the scale for his most recent bout (a quick destruction of American Seth Mitchell last year) at 242 pounds.

Stiverne hit the scale next, measuring 239.5 pounds. By comparison, “B WARE” was 247 for the first fight with Arreola last April, and came in at 243 against journeyman Willie Herring in his only bout of 2012. Against former title challenger Ray Austin in June of 2011, Stiverne weighed in at 239 pounds.

Wilder: Stiverne doesn’t deserve to fight Arreola for WBC title

Wilder: Stiverne doesn’t deserve to fight Arreola for WBC title

(Photo credit: Goosen Tutor Promotions) #3 WBC Deontay Wilder (31-0, 31 KO’s) doesn’t think #1 WBC Bermane Stiverne (23-1-1, 20 KO’s) deserves to be fighting for the vacant WBC heavyweight title tonight against Chris Arreola (36-3, 31 KO’s) at the USC Galen Center, in Los Angeles, California, USA.

Deontay thinks that the 6’2” Stiverne lacks the resume to be fighting for a world title given that his only one big named opponent he’s faced during his career is Arreola, who Deontay felt was out of shape when Stiverne beat him last year by a 12 round unanimous decision in April of 2013.

“I don’t feel that Stiverne has done nothing to deserve a title shot,” Deontay said via Fightnews. “The only person he beat to deserve a shot was Chris Arreola. He [Stiverne] got pounded by my man Ray Austin.”

Stiverne-Arreola II fight week coverage – Open Workouts

This afternoon on the University of Southern California campus in Los Angeles, Bermane Stiverne and Chris Arreola held open workouts as they prepared for this Saturday’s WBC heavyweight title match. Please check out the embedded video to see the fighters in action.

Southern California native Chris “The Nightmare” Arreola arrived first around 3pm and after some stretching and shadowboxing, he worked the mitts with longtime trainer Henry Ramirez. Chris was his normal jovial self and was joking with media members as he worked up a sweat. He appeared in good shape and high spirits only days ahead of the biggest fight of his career. After a few minutes skipping rope, he stepped aside to talk with media and leave the ring area open for his opponent to work. Arreola made it a point to tell media he is in much better condition for the rematch with Stiverne than he was in their first bout. He beamed with confidence as he answered questions and seemed very relaxed.

Arreola: I’d rather fight Fury than Deontay Wilder

Arreola: I’d rather fight Fury than Deontay Wilder

#2 WBC Chris Arreola (36-3, 31 KO’s) could find himself facing unbeaten knockout artist #3 WBC Deontay Wilder (31-0, 31 KO’s) before the end of the year if Arreola is able to get past #1 WBC Bermane Stiverne (23-1-1, 20 KO’s) in their rematch on May 10th at the Galen Center, in Los Angeles, California, USA.

The Arreola-Stiverne 2 fight will be for the vacant WBC title that was recently vacated by long-time champion Vitali Klitschko. If Arreola beats Stiverne, he says he would prefer to fight the unbeaten British heavyweight Tyson Fury (22-0, 16 KO’s) rather than the 6’7” Deontay, because he feels that Fury is more accomplished and has the much bigger fan base.

Deontay: I’ll break Arreola’s nose; Stiverne has no chance against me

Deontay: I’ll break Arreola’s nose; Stiverne has no chance against me

Unbeaten heavyweight contender Deontay Wilder (31-0, 31 KO’s) says he can’t wait to get a shot at whipping the winner of the May 10th fight between Chris Arreola (36-3, 31 KO’s) and Bermane Stiverne (23-1-1, 20 KO’s) for the WBC heavyweight title. Stiverne and Arreola will be fighting for the vacant WBC title in their bout, but then the winner has to face Deontay next until they choose to go for a unification bout against Wladimir Klitschko, the IBF/WBA/WBO/WBA heavyweight champion.

Deontay, 6’7”, wants to break Arreola’s nose in the same way that Stiverene did last April when he beat Arreola by a 12 round unanimous decision after shattering his nose in the 3rd round with a hard right hand. Deontay feels that he’ll do the same thing if he gets a shot at facing Arreola for the WBC title. Deontay likes that match-up a lot.

Deontay Wilder sees himself stopping Arreola and Stiverne early

Deontay Wilder sees himself stopping Arreola and Stiverne early

WBC mandatory challenger Deontay Wilder (31-0, 31 KO’s) can’t wait to get his chance at fighting the winner of the May 10th fight between Chris Arreola (36-3, 31 KO’s) and Bermane Stiverne (23-1-1, 20 KO’s). Deontay will be fighting the winner of that fight later on this year, and he doesn’t see either of them as having the size and/or the talent to make it out of the early rounds against him.

Surprisingly, the 6’7” Deontay sees the 6’1” Stiverne as being the easier fight for him due to Stiverne’s habit of staying on the outside and using his jab. Deontay feels he could bomb Stiverne out of there from long range and make easy work of him.

Chris Arreola vs. Bermane Stiverne: Last Chance For Arreola

Chris Arreola vs. Bermane Stiverne: Last Chance For Arreola

I feel I’m somewhat of a rarity these days – a British fight fan who still makes a point of watching USA heavyweight boxing. Everyone knows the issues surrounding the heavyweight scene in America and the lack of a genuine titleholder in the last 6 years or so. That said, there’s still a lot to be excited about, and with the heavyweight scene about to undergo its biggest shake up in years, American heavyweight boxing could be about to receive a badly needed boost.

The heavyweight showdown between Chris Arreola and Bermane Stiverne for Vitali’s vacated title in June in Mexico will ensure we see one of the big belts go to a non-Klitschko which in itself is exciting enough!

Whether you feel Chris Arreola (36-3, 31 KO) is deserving of the opportunity to fight for the title (and avenge his defeat last year) against Bermane Stiverne (23-1-1, 20 KO) is debatable. What can be guaranteed however is another great fight, which should – hopefully – be even more engrossing than the last fight.
