2016 comes to an end – welcome 2017!

By Mauricio Sulaiman – 2016 comes to an end – welcome 2017!

As we all try to slow down to enjoy a few quiet moments in the company of our loved ones, thinking about what happened this year and planning on what we wish to do for 2017, it is a great opportunity to simply meditate and reflect on our own actions and what can we personally do to make the difference in our lives and the lives of others. It is so common that we get lost in the day-to-day pressures, deadlines, worries, excessive work, travel, and eternal use of the cell phone. We often forget to look at today, to realize what we have, who is next to us, how fortunate we are to have health, to be alive, to have our loved ones close. We forget to appreciate and cherish what is there.

Canelo Alvarez could make a 154-pound title defence in next fight, middleweight debut planned for May

Golden Boy’s Eric Gomez spoke with RingTV.com today, the subject of conversation being the plans for Mexican superstar Canelo Alvarez’s next move. As Alvarez continues to heal – he fractured his right hand during his September win over Liam Smith – he also looks forward to his next fight. Gomez says Alvarez will not vacate the WBO 154-pound belt he won from Smith, as his next fight could be a defence of the strap.

That’s if Canelo is fit and ready to fight in the first quarter of next year; if not then Alvarez will return to action in May – at middleweight. Gomez also said that the ultimate plan remains the same: for Canelo to fight middleweight ruler Gennady Golovkin in September of 2017.

Left-Hook Lounge Mailbag: Pacquiao vs Bradley, Canelo vs Lara, and Bob Arum!!

Left-Hook Lounge Mailbag: Pacquiao vs Bradley, Canelo vs Lara, and Bob Arum!!

Carter C. (Northridge, CA): I think Pacquiao’s performance proves how good he truly is. I would like to know how you assessed his performance and what would you like to see next from him?

Vivek W. (ESB): Going into the bout, my official prediction was a Pacquaio stoppage down the home stretch, possibly as late as the 12th round. What I predicted and what we saw were two vastly different things, but in the end, the results carried the same weight. I just truly felt that his work-rate and the power it embodies alone would be able earn him a victory in this fight. Bradley has shown us great evolution, but there are a few major flaws within his game that I seriously doubt can be corrected at this stage of his career. It’s one thing to work on a particular set during camp; but in the heat of the battle, a veteran will revert to those tendencies that are deeply rooted and engrained in the brain every single time.
