Hmm I thod the former 2-time world light heavyweight champion Glen Johnson retired after his last fight (UD loss contest), buit then again he can still fight well and he is still a challange to face in the ring after all these years and his hearth is amazing so I won’t say that he should retire yeath. Johnson is also a great sportsman and there are few fighters out there like him and Johnson never declines a challange. Go Road Warrior!!!

George has to look for a KO here & then call out the winner of Anderson/Reid to regain the Lonsdale belt.

Good fight for both guys, Glen pull this off then retire on top or a second fight against Hopkins would be good to see.

It must be so diificult to retire and “stay” retired when you can still function as an athlete at a high levle, are offered good money, and have no other way to earn a living. The ultimate result, in a sport like boxing, is bound to be bad for your brain-health. The more you get hit, the worse your judgment becomes, you spend unwisely, and the process continues until you are William Joppy

GLEN JOHNSON 6.45 10/18/2O12

Posted October 18, 2012 6:42 am

Glen Johnson had a hard time of getting fights while in his prime. Since he retired, others see him as softer and also as a stepping stone. Glen will get easy money offers left and right now because most know he’s lost a step or two. Retiring is easy when fights are hard to get, but if the good money presents itself with a knock on the door, he’d be a fool to pass on it. Groves can box and work on a UD. Go
Glen Johnson.

do you guys actually think that Glen Johnson will take a ‘script’…and lose his fight with Groves ???
If Groves is such a threat to boxing society….he’ll deal with Glen Johnson…as per the needs of the promoters involved.

I’ll always remember when Glen Johnson flattened Roy Jones Jr…where piss was running down RJJ ‘s leg….

I’m with Glen Johnson…for the first seven rounds

If Glen Johnson beats this young lion……Groves will sell his boat and car and condo…to get a rematch…….Groves needs to win… if he doesn’t….the …fecal material will hit the circular rotating cooling device

back in the day..Clay wanted Doug Jones…Archie Moore.. ..Sir ‘Enry..Cooper…to put a bunch of ‘pelts on his warlance’…..this is not a new stategy….look at Dempsy leading up to his Shot….or even Liston…Liston shudda been Champion for years……’cept he had those ‘vacations” ….between 1950…and 1960…..from time to time

It`ll be an intersting fight since Groves always seems to display a vulnerability alongside undoubted talent, but I am sad to see Johnson’s status in the sport sliding down to this the level of being a gatekeeper for the top 10 rather than being a title challenger.

Da UnKnown Comic

First Glencoffe retired. Now he’s not. Then Evander said he’s done. Now today he says he changed his mind. WTF? Smh…

No surprise. What else is Glen going to do?

No fans, no entourage, no adoration, no sweat and grind, no gym—-it all adds up to lonliness and the only way to remove it is to go back to what you know. best That’s why it’s so important for these men to have something else to fall back on.

I see Glen losing this one badly.

So much for Johnson’s retirement.

I’ll always remember when Glen Johnson knocked out Roy Jones Jr……WHat a night that was….my money was on Johnson. I was lucky to get out of the place alive…let alone get my winnings

I must tell you that I was disappointed to see Glen Johnson back in the ring. I thought he retired…

Posted October 17, 2012 5:35 pm

not really interesting the road warrior has nothing left to offer specially against a young lion like groves who is way to dynamic for Glen at this stage of the game (which is past it )…

Posted October 17, 2012 5:28 pm

interesting fight

It was one thing watching Glen Johnson loose to top tier talent like Froch and Bute, but now he is getting fed to prospects because his name will look good on their ledger. He seemed sincere when he retired this summer on FNF. I just hope he knows what he is doing and doesn’t get hurt.

A good name on Groves’ record, and hopefully 12 solid rounds too. Anderson, DeGale, Smith, Sierra in America and now Johnson. A pro for only 4 years, it’ll only be George’s 16th fight, but he clearly means business at 168. Of recent Super Middles, he seems to be developing on a par with Andre Ward. And well ahead of where Froch was at this point in his career…although Carl has obviously made up for it since

big scalp for Groves.

I’m a Johnson fan, but I can see Groves winning a wide UD without having to engage too often.

The Kingslayer

Even though he’s way past it this will still be a tough fight for Groves, remember the kid has only had 15 fights.

Well that is a short lived retirement. The only thing shorter than a boxers retirement is a reality star’s marriage. I have never in my life been sad to hear of a Glen Johnson fight being made but this one does. Being a big fan I am fairly certain he doesn’t need the money and it was obvious in his last fight he has no more to give. Needs a hobby or a way to stay in the sport. Don’t need to waste money starting a gym [but he could] but volunteer to work at one to stay active.

@Right hook -Yeah..He said that a couple of months ago….

Glen Johnson is a very good test for a young novice like Groves with only 15 fights under his belt.

Groves will get 12 tough rounds from Johnson.

right hook to the body

i thought johnson retired few months ago

I think Bute would beat Groves but i agree that a peak Johnson would of been too much. Groves on points for me.

cracking match-making from the Warren camp.

Good experience fight for Groves. Prime Johnson could knock Groves out but he’s past his prime and i can see Groves doin a similar job to Bute, with maybe one or two minor scares thrown in along the way.

If Groves beats Johnson, he will have as good a record as Lucian Bute lol

Posted October 17, 2012 11:34 am

Good ste-up from the domestics for grove. Next year i can definately see him beating the likes of Abraham

Posted October 17, 2012 11:22 am

big head

johnson is done groves should win by decsion johnson might have his moments at the end of the day he aint going to be able to keep up the pace or workrate groves is to young and to quick for him

Posted October 17, 2012 11:17 am

Johnson very publicly announced his retirement on ESPN. There must be a lot of money on the table to bring him back. Even on the wrong side of 40, Johnson is a handful. I like Groves, but this is too much too soon, and I think Johnson could get to him.

A smart move or premature? Cant wait to find out. George Groves is good but there seems to be a vulnerability to him has yet to be exposed. Wel done to Groves in taking on a “name”. Johnson is past it but could still give Groves nightmares. Good match-up.
