aficionado, “chris’ll always be a lazy bum by nature”

no boxer is a lazy bum by nature. no more than they’re a gym rat by nature. lazy = bad habit / gym rat = good habit.

Arreola’s going through the same routine as always. He lost, claims he didn’t train at all, now claims he’s fully dedicated and will win. Maybe. But he’ll always be a lazy bum by nature. Even if he wins tonight he’ll relapse.

if the first fight was the indicator than stieverne wins. arreola just could not land effectively and keept eating shots. i have lost my belief in arreola and his team to implement anything effective. i hope arreola wins and i hope he proves me wrong but im taking don kings stieverne in this one as sorry as stieverne is

@Tark concerning heavyweights.

Damn bru are u really that ignorant?
Bringing up boxing matches of yesteryear with guys weighing south of 210 pounds. The sport has moved on bro. Your heroes would have absolutely no chance.

Head movements from Arreola. .land his bombs, and its KO. .he looked to stationery last time..Arreola has proven his KO power..

Posted May 10, 2014 3:24 am

Should be a war, but every time I think a fight will be a war and get disappointed, but I doubt if this fight will disappoint. Arreola appears to be in shape, Stiverne appeared to be depressed at first, then started running his mouth then he said that he does not talk……………which is it? Arreola did not appear to be nervous at all. This could be a good fight, but…………….If Arreola lands a big punch on Stiverne it will be over. Arreola has been stopped only one time and that was against Vitali Klitschko, who would have knocked Stiverne out cold, but Vlad will do that, unless the winner knocks out Wilder, which is quite possible………….

Posted May 10, 2014 2:40 am

As long as Arreola is defensively smarter this time around, which I think he wil be, I think he’ll KO Stiverne. Arreola needs to use his deadly uppercuts, killer body shots, and hard jab to get the job done. He also has good defensive skills when he uses them and is an excellent counter-puncher. You know he knows what he’s getting into Saturday night and I’m picking him to win.

Posted May 10, 2014 12:35 am

Right.., This is not a matchup of masterful technicians. These are 2 guys who are looking for opponents who are easy to hit.

They’ll fight anyone in a title fight.. but you look at their records and they’re damned selective.. including selecting each other.. They both see the other as somebody they can punch the heck out of, almost like a heavy bag.

In a fight like this you examine the gloves and hand wrapping procedure of the opponent real good. Any little bit of an edge can sway a fight like this, so there’s a bigger temptation to cheat.

Posted May 9, 2014 11:27 pm

arreola is not to be written off in this fight at all. i dont know who im gonna forecast to win. stieverne is atrocious stylistically. his left was practically at his waist the whole fight. stieverne is wide open for EVERY THING. arreola even found success with the left hook. arreola can beat stieverne if stieverne does not just simply power himself to a win. many of the top guys will knock stiverne off IF he faces them. stievernse stance is deplorable

Posted May 9, 2014 10:07 pm

Stiverne didn’t look cut to me at all. Neither looked fat and neither looked cut.

Posted May 9, 2014 9:30 pm

Fight Aficionado

True. It’d be better if they were both around 225-230. But Stiverne is cut and Arreola has excess fat, so if they suddenly showed up at that weight they could prove weaker. It takes long term dedication to be shredded and fit, you can’t change the routine dramatically fight to fight. So in the end they’re both at a decent weight, for them.

Posted May 9, 2014 8:29 pm

Shatterd Dreams

Both fighters weighed in at 239, not bad but like that not great either. A lot of these fighters are carrying excess weight that’s only slowing them down, a slow moving fighter doesn’t have a chance when it comes to fighting a well conditioned champion like Wladimir Klitschko, it’s just target practice.

Posted May 9, 2014 8:00 pm

Fight Aficionado

Two things: Stiverne is normally a clam guy and he blew up here. Often when boxers act out of character they’re mentally not prepared for war. Also, they both weighed about 239 lbs. So Arreola is prepared. This makes me lean towards Arreola now, whereas before I thought Stiverne would win. I’m going with Arreola by TKO.

An Idiot said…, “Cunningham aint even a heavyweight u fool”

That’s funny… Cunningham weighed a rock hard 210 for Fury… and it was a heavyweight fight… Cunningham is competing in the heavyweight division.

Ali weighed 206 for liston… 203 for Mildenberger… 201 for Cooper II… Larry Holmes weighed 209 for Ken Norton… Frazier weighed 203 for Bonavena… 205 for his winning fight versus Ali… Holyfield weighed 208 when he KO’d Buster Douglas for the title… They were all lighter than Cunningham.

Posted May 9, 2014 7:10 pm

Tark, I totally agree that Arrelo shouldn’t have been given this title shot seeing as he was officially “eliminated” by Stiverne already. Stiverne should be fighting the winner of another eliminator…….it makes no sense to me that Stiverne HAS to beat Arreola TWICE to get the WBC crown whereas Arreola only needs to beat Stiverne once in 2 attempts.
What I don’t agree on is that you say Stiverne’s record is really weak, it’s not stellar by any means, but it’s not as weak as you suggest.
Stiverne Koed Sconiers in one round…….it took Wilder 4 rounds to KO an older Sconiers and take a knock down himself, which ever way you look at it Stiverne took care of Sconiers much better than Wilder did.
Pulev has done well, but let’s not get too carried away by his win over Ustinov, Ustinov is about the slowest heavyweight out there who wins by size rather than skill or speed.
Also Fury’s win over Cunningham was a poor win for Fury,
especially as non puncher former cruiser weight decked Fury…….once again Fury’s win over Cunningham was really just a size issue rather than skills.
As for Glazkov, I remember watching his fight with Malik Scott and not being overly impressed with either fighter.
Stiverne’s win over Arrelo was more impressive than many of the fights that you have cited as “good” wins.

The press conference looked a little rehearsed. It’s a pointless rematch being that Bermane won the 1st fight without any controversybut the outcome will be significant nonetheless. Both say their in good shape it will be interesting to see what they weigh in at.

Forget about making a silly deal about the loser shaving his head. They need to make a real deal – the loser must retire from boxing.

Posted May 9, 2014 5:36 pm

KL…, Draws and knockdowns generally don’t determine anything. Wins do.

A quality win is Haye KOing Chisora… Pulev beating Thompson, Dimitrenko, and Ustinov… Wilder stopping Scott and Liakhovich quickly… Glazkov beating Adamek… and Fury icing Cunningham.

If you’re going to give Stiverne a title shot for beating Arreola.. don’t make it against Arreola.. make Stiverne fight one of the above winners not named Pulev — who already has a much better title shot going with Wlad.

I would rather Stiverne be matched with Glazkov, Wilder, or Fury than Arreola… This is not the first time I’ve seen an American heavyweight given a title shot for LOSING to a hand picked opponent … but I just think it sucks.

Posted May 9, 2014 5:12 pm

“Stiverne really has a weak record, I just looked at it.”- Tark

Tark I think that’s a tad harsh, look at Stiverne record more closely and you will see that Stiverne has recorded a first round KO over a guy called Harold Sconiers, yep the same guy that decked Wilder who you seem to rate very highly.
As regards to Ray Austin, sure Wlad KOed him early, but Ray Austin wasn’t a bad fighter on a good day.
I remember Austins fight with Sultan Ibragamov, a real tough ding dong battle and Austin managed to knock down Ibragimov in Rd 10 something even Wlad didn’t manage to achieve.
Also who else has managed to knock down Arreolla, Vitali couldn’t nor could Adamek,
So whilst Stiverne’s record isn’t littered with quality boxers. it’s not as a weak as you make out Tark!
So whilst I agree Stiverne’s record isn’t littered with

CA has always had the goods to be a champion. But his early success made him think that he could win fights with his size and skill. i thought for sure losing to Tomas Adamek was going to make him wake up but it didnt. It took a broken nose and a bad Christmas to help him wake up and see his selfishness. The question isn’t does he have the heart to go balls out and go out on his shield. We’ve seen him do that. It’s not that he doesnt have speed and power or skill….The question is has he had enough time to acclimate to his new weight and size? if he has i like his chances if camp was all about losing weight then it’s not going to go well. Both BS and CA are a match made in heaven for televised boxing…. The fights going to be FOTY…..Just watch and see. despite who wins it wont be the last we hear from them. everyone’s quick to write off Chris, he has a lot of fight left in him and he’s going to bring it every time…we should see Chris at least for 5 more years if he keeps up the hard work in the gym

Look the one thing I don’t want to happen is for King to own one of the belts. It will never be unified if a King fighter owns a belt. For that reason alone I will be routing for Arreolla. I also did not like the way Stiverne seemed to tense up on the mike. You need to be loose and relaxed to fight your best.

Posted May 9, 2014 12:26 pm

…. “I like Arreola….always have….but he is losing this fight. Stiverne IMO is the most skilled young heavyweight in the game right now.”

There are dozens more skilled than Stiverne.

He would get trashed by Jennings or Wilder. Fury would destroy him. Wladimir would bury him. Pulev would pound him out. Haye would get rid of him. Chisora might stop him late. Glazkov would beat the crap out of him in a distance affair. Scott might even beat him because I don’t see a stoppage for either.

Bermane is fighting a guy who’s his speed. These 2 guys couldn’t beat contenders so their made for each other.

Posted May 9, 2014 12:25 pm

Wilder? Smoke n mirrors

Posted May 9, 2014 12:18 pm

You have to wonder why, when after Vitali retired, the WBC did not invite Wladimir to fight someone for their title? He’s clearly the #1 heavyweight in the world. Politics and the desire to give someone else a chance to be “champ” – this is literally like charity…. C’mon guys give Chris and Bermane a chance to wrap a belt around their waist and pretend the are a champion… time to vomit. And, yes, the fact that Arreola cannot seem to put three sentences together without an F-bomb is very low-class. I cannot wait for him to get another Klitschko ass pounding like what Vitali did to him and made him cry in the ring like a baby.

If King took the bet, and I bet he did not, then he will be in the barber chair to get his electric hair lopped off. I am going with CA in this one. Guts, heart, good inside pressure, punches in bunches, and a big punch to take BS out of it. CA needs to take BS into the late rounds and then KO him. CA needs to cautiously take him into the late rounds and then KTFO of BS. Maybe BS is not as good a tech boxer as BS but he is a better fighter. If CS hurts BS, CS will take him out because he can finish. BS will have his gloves on the canvas in this one. Viva Arreloa!! Viva Arreola!!

Posted May 9, 2014 9:07 am

Stiverne had two weaknesses. Slow footed and workrate drops in the later rounds. He has been doing his running and skipping. He should be faster on his feet and should be able to maintain a high workrate. He is simply a better boxer than Arreola, he has a better jab, a longer reach, a better defence and hits much much harder. He will either get a comfortable UD or KO Arreola. Arreola will do what Arreola does. Attack attack attack and maintain pressure whilst leaving himself wide open. He will get hit too often with too many hard punches. I would like to see stiverne in with wilder after this fight to see how he handles a much taller fighter who can hit.

Posted May 9, 2014 9:06 am

Khan’s Cuz, Stop with that nonsense. That punch was timed and set up perfectly. Nothing “lucky” about it. I mean I respect yours or anyone’s opinion who feel that Arreola will win this bout but come on man. Give Stiverne his respect. he dominated Chris in the first fight. THE END, nothing “lucky” about it.

Posted May 9, 2014 8:58 am

Khan’s Cuz Achmed

Even if Stiverne win’s he will lose the big picture just by being involved with Don King. I don’t think it matters as Arreola will correct the problems this time around. A nice but also very lucky shot is what turned the first fight in Stiverne’s favor. Either way….#KingKhan2014

Let the battle for the “Paper made world heavyweight championship” start.

The title is the WBC belt on the “paper” and one of nthe title challangers (Chris Arreola) havent even made himself earned of another title shot and still he is up to fight for a vacant title.

Non of the men will be rememberd for having a title they never won from the Klitschko brother as the brothers have have ruled the world heavyweight scene sence 2006, 2008-2014 and on.
Wladimir Klitschko is the unified & undisputed heavyweight champion of the world (Ring, WBA, IBF, WBO, IBO) and only the WBC title is out of his grasp.

Non of these two guyes can never claim to be “THE CHAMP” unless they challange Wladimir and fights him.

Posted May 9, 2014 8:24 am

regardless of which fighter wins? I do not believe they will hold the belt very long. if Arreola is the USA’S best hope to bring a belt back home it is not saying very much in my opinion.

Stiverne really has a weak record, I just looked at it. He only claim to fame is he beat Arreola and stopped Ray Austin in 10.

You’ve got to get Austin out in a 3 or 4 rounds. Stiverne hasn’t fought any heavyweights who are any good at all. Not so amazing if you think about it… He was originally picked as a easy chump who Arreola would look good against.

If Don King wins, there will never be a Klitchko fight.

One, the Klitchko’s think King is very low class; two King wants to remain in power, (his contract is he always walks out of the ring with the winner…in case folks have forgotten.) that he has not had in over a decade…..remember Holms never fought the other Champ….got away with the “Kiddy Parade”.
Tyson never chased the Champ after Jail, just has beens….and King screwed him out of a lot of money.
Holms got screwed out of much of his money, and then the fool lost what was left by investing in Easton, in the depression before last.
Hope Chris wins….then we can have three heavyweight championship fights every year…when Eventually Wlad has that belt too.

This press conference is so low-class it is shameful.
