It was his brother Marv…

Good article a lot of good points for starters the thing with rigo how max put him on he’s top 5 is ridiculous i understand some posters doing it but not a boxing analysts second the show needs to be more frequent and have boxers in it not just max but the show is doomed to fail if it just going to highlight top rank fighters.

“Lamps, Lederman, and Kellerman actually know their stuff” Joseph when Lampley first became a boxing commentator for HBO, he didn’t know squat about the sport. Not a damn thing. The man stuttered and made up things just to keep talking. Now after all these years he knows something because it’s kind of hard not to when you’ve been around the sport as many years as he has. But Lampley is just a big-mouth HBO puppet. You know, the guy who calls fights, “Boom, bam, pow!!” He’s ridiculous.

“All you do is post on ESB.”

LOL! Really? Thanks for letting me know, garbage brain.

Eleanore the Hag

Was it Steve who dressed up in panties and a brassier and bit the sh–it out of his girl friend. Or was it Marv who was a great basketball announcer. Man that was some sick stuff. Did some “face sitting” too according to Wikipedia. Don’t know what that is but is sounds interesting!! :twisted”

Posted August 9, 2013 11:09 pm

Big Al

Bring back Steve Albert and “the Fight Doctor” Ferdie Pacheco. Oh, man. Those were the days. Gus Johnson was starting to get pretty good too but I haven’t seen him in a while.

Very insightful post, kid Blast!!

You’re absolutely right about the restrictive brass of HBO.

Emanuel used to complain about it all of the time. As soon as any one of them get going, the producers of the broadcast cut them off. Lamps and Merch are very smart guys!!

I like Bernstein over HBO guys.

The Good Father Berrigan

It’s Me, Ernie, you are so full of shi-t it’s coming out of your ears. You’d have an easier time booking a meeting with the Pope that you would getting time with this ego maniac who even has a publicity agent you’d have to get through. And where did the so-called meetings take place–in Al’s Vega’s pad over some scotch and cigars.

Al Bernstein is the greatest man in boxing history.

There, I’ve said it. Now I feel a whole bunch better.

They know the big picture better than anyone but the top suits at HBO are the ones who won’t let them talk about it.

But at least they will go after a decision like Lampley did re the Bradley-Pac disgrace. That’s more than the ultra-politically correct Showtime will do.

Posted August 9, 2013 3:54 pm

It’s Me, Ernie

I’ve talked to Bernstein many times. He seems interested in what the fans have to say and has been eager to engage in conversation, likeable guy…

Posted August 9, 2013 3:53 pm

Joseph Herron

Lamps, Lederman, and Kellerman actually know their stuff, but unfortunately their pro-HBO views hinder their scope and don’t allow them to see the big picture concerning a lot of issues.

That is the only problem I can see with the program.

Posted August 9, 2013 3:40 pm

Garbage Man

Hidalgo, get a life. All you do is post on ESB. Have you nothing else? A pet? A girl perhaps? A wife? A job? WTF are you? A playboy poster? If you can’t say anything good about someone, why bother to say it, or does that make you feel more manly.

Lampley is worth 16 Million. What is your net worth, numbnts?

Posted August 9, 2013 3:11 pm

Garbage Man

Al Bernstein is known among his peers as The Weatherman for always taking the politically correct position. No one likes him in Las Vegas because he thinks his sh-t doesn’t stink, but the smell permeates.

I like and appreciate The Fight Game, even though I do agree with some of the author’s views, I’m just happy to have a Boxing show with some substance. I do agree it should be a weekly, bi-weekly or at the very least a monthly show. I have always blamed ESPN for the lack of knowledgable fans in America. ESPN Friday Night Fights has been running for many years, but ESPN DOES NOT COVER BOXING AT ALL, thus not promoting their own show. Just about every casual American sports fan watches Sportscenter daily, and the only time they hear anything about Boxing is when Floyd has an upcoming fight. Yet, they cover Tennis, Golf, NASCAR, Bowling, even Poker for Christ sake! Every day they could at least have a 1-3 minute segment called Round 1, Between the Ropes, In the Ring, Fight Time, In This Corner, or something of that nature! Instead they have nothing! If GGG was fighting Maravilla tomorrow night, ESPN would not mention one word about it today nor Sunday, and that is a damn shame!

Posted August 9, 2013 2:35 pm

I see Good:

Kellerman actually praises the Klitschkos and even said if they were American they would be more popular. He said Wlad is an ATG and is not being appreciated. He said the same for Lennox Lewis. Other than that, Max has his own opinions that enough can find fault in. A bit too arrogant at times and needs to be corrected by a Pro Boxer.

Knowing your boxing history isn’t exactly knowing boxing like a fighter knows it.

Great MAN Larry Merchant. He told MAYWEATHER in so many WORDS on National TV. (Handpick fight) When are you going to fight a boxer in his PRIME. Larry BROUGHT up PACMAN.. Mayweather then THREATEN him on TV. The public in general are STUPID. NOT LARRY MERCHANT. Hes the man old LARRY. To BAD their WASNT more like this GOOD man in the USA.

Posted August 9, 2013 2:26 pm

Al is better for sure. His personality isn’t all that enticing for TV but who cares when he is good at his job and understands his position in the boxing world.

Posted August 9, 2013 2:25 pm

It’s not a good show. Jim Lampley needs stick to shooting his show on dates when he is not on his period.

He should also just stick to proper fight calling. Instead, he is throwing to much of his personal opinions into the fight and ruining it. He certainly has the voice and intensity for it.

Jim Lampley is a well-paid blow-hard. I look for any opportunity to NOT watch anything he does. Unfortunately, he is one of the regular “analysts” on HBO boxing. Oh well, sometimes you have to eat your peas.

Posted August 9, 2013 10:17 am

SUCKS! They’re not even allowed to say the words “Showtime” or “espn” LOL. A big joke.

Posted August 9, 2013 9:54 am

Sorry to see no comments on this article. I agree and have thought the same thing. Not too mention the show’s slim output frequency. It’s a simple production so why does it take four months to produce a show? I too was excited about the show when it was first announced but it’s been a let down. The show is not frequent enough to be up-to-the-minute relevant and when they do release one it’s usually so general you learn nothing. They should take a cue from Real Sports and actually do stories and fighter interviews rather than just ask the talking heads we se all the time for their opinions. Max Kellerman is without a doubt a knowledgeable boxing scribe but listening to him spout his opinions is grating on my nerves. The show just sucks. Plain and simple.

Has HBO’s The Fight Game with Jim Lampley been more hype than fight?
