Floyd has a bit of an annoying personality but Broner is on another level!

Broner won’t last too much longer. He is driving himself crazy copying Floyd.

TARK: No, I DO NOT agree that Broner was the legitimate winner. I said that I respect the opinion of anyone who scored it 115-113 because it was an extremely close fight. That is a HUGE difference.

How many times have you sat down and watched this fight closely — with the volume turned off so that your perceptions are not being clouded by B-Hop and the Showtime commentators???

(Broner also lost to Ponce De Leon and Quintero, so it’s clear that he’s being protected and promoted by some powerful forces in this sport.)

Broner lost to Ponce De Leon and Quintero.

Posted July 17, 2013 1:16 pm

Squared-Circle… You say, “I respect the opinion of any judge, writer, analyst or fan who scored it 115-113 — in favor of either man.”

Fine… Then you agree Broner was the legitimate winner.. But it doesn’t sound that way when you keep insisting Paulie won the fight… When you talk about “115-113 either way” That’s 2 rounds you say could be judged either way.. That’s impossible.. There weren’t 7 rounds you could give to Paulie if you know how to score a boxing match.. The guy who scored for Paulie wanted him to win.. So did you.. Therefore you were not objective in your scoring.. Next time, don’t have an opinion before the fight starts and try to justify it by the action.

Let the fighter who’s actually doing the most damage with his legal punches determine your score — because Paulie wasn’t doing s**t.

Posted July 17, 2013 12:37 pm

He may have not come close to hurting or knocking Paulie out but the problem was he had Paulies head rocking back and forth when he landed and Paulie wouldn’t commit to any punch he threw. I didn’t make a pick because I like Paulie. Always went for him in all fights. It is amazing that someone with no power could win titles like he did. And he took on anybody they put in front of him. Broner in my opinion lacked a lot in this fight but still won. And it was a close fight. I think Paulie could of done better if he actually commited to punches like I have seen him do before. Those arm punches will not win a fight, especially when all the work was done to the arms of Broner

Squared-Circle Real Talk (a.k.a. The Lion King of Beat Street)

TARK: It was a very close fight and I respect the opinion of any judge, writer, analyst or fan who scored it 115-113 — in favor of either man. The two judges who scored it 115-113 were right on the money! And I along with MILLIONS of other fans, thought that PM was WAY more active, landed more often, and deserved the nod — especially as the standing WW Champion in his own hometown.

Broner may have landed a little harder, but he NEVER once wobbled, hurt or knocked PM down. The one judge who scored it 117-111, and the writers/analysts who agree with outrageous score, are the people with poor eyesight and/or hidden political agendas. And if I remember correctly, you scored it 117-111 for Broner… so I have to include you in that group on this one. But the truth is… I don’t believe that’s your REAL score. I believe that you’re REAL score is more accurate, but you’re just saying that to support your pro-Broner agenda.

I don’t buy the Compubox totals for this fight because PM was not given credit for many of the shots he landed to Broner’s body — even if they lacked power. I KNOW I’ve heard you say that Compubox is B.S. and inaccurate at times, but then you reference it when it supports your arguments. Ali was gifted a couple decisions in his career and you know it. I’ve heard you say it! But how many professional writers/analysts at that time came right out and publicly said it??? Probably none, because it would have been a politically incorrect thing to say, and it would’ve put them on the path to career suicide.

This is boxing we’re talking about and it’s probably the shadiest, most corrupt sport in the world. After the fight, PM said: “the politically connected guy always wins.” And when it comes to really close decisions, I 100% agree with him on that. Fortunately, all this out-of-control corruption and political maneuvering is not a problem in pro MMA.

You really should’ve been a defense lawyer, dude. You totally missed your calling! I know that you’re at “retirement age,” but it’s never too late to go back to school when you find your true passion.

Posted July 16, 2013 11:18 pm

Squared-Circle….. You KNOW that very few people agree with you that Paulie beat Broner. Nobody with good eyesight. None of the commentators and no writers you can name, or experts you can name agree with you..

Broner landed more punches… cleaner punches… punches that did much more damage… he was the aggressor thourghout the fight… Paulie was running away and holding like a sissy all nght long… He punches like a girl.

You usually make more sense… That’s the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever read from you.

“I’d be surprised if Broner actually steps in the ring with Maidana let alone Matthysse who would just tear him up.” – I can see Maidana given he’s slow. But now there’s talk of him rematching Paulie. Yes, a good plan — if he wants to burn more time and continue ducking Matthysse, who he skipped an entire division to avoid. BTW lame ass ESB keeps saying I’m posting too fast even though this is only my 4th comment all week. This is the 4th time I’ve posted this. So I am outta here.

Let Broner take on one of the deadly M n Ms….Maidana 147 or the other deadly M at 140 then we can talk…..Broner VS Floyd…LOL….TAKE A NUMBER BIG BRUSH

TARK: “Anybody is going to look awkward if you pick the right frame..”

You should know me well enough by now to know that my analysis of Broner is NOT based on one still-frame photo. So, you should seriously consider being a lawyer in your next life… lol. IMO, Broner should already have two, if not three, losses on his record. And he should only be a two-division champion because he really didn’t beat PM. Remember those days when you really had to beat a Champ in his own backyard in order to take his title/strap?

Are you saying that you’re sold on Broner becoming the next “big attraction” in boxing??? Because it kind of sounds like your blowing his horn pretty hard on ESB.

Em: Having the longest handle was not my goal, it just sort of got longer over the years. But thanks anyway! I agree with you that Broner lost to Ponce and Quintero. Good commentary there, mano.

Squared Circle…, “Just take a close look at the attached photo. Notice how AWKWARD Broner looks compared to the pics of other fighters on ESB? His stance, technique and Philly shell/shoulder roll defense are deeply and fundamentally flawed.” … Photos can be extremely misleading.

Anybody is going to look awkward if you pick the right frame… Everybody gets punched hard too… Even Mayweather looks defenseless on a frame where he’s catching a bomb on his chin, both hands are down, and he’s wide open… If Broner was deeply flawed he wouldn’t be a 3-Division World Champion at 23.. It took Floyd until he was 25 to be a 2-Division World Champ.

I’m not a fan of blocking right hands with your right or anything about Broner’s defense. His is tight, but it gives him the same defensive liabilities Joe Frazier, Ken Norton, and Archie Moore had … However, so far Broner has made it work.

The test will come when he fights somebody with a high-octane offense.

Posted July 16, 2013 2:08 pm

@ Squared-Circle Real Talk (a.k.a. The Lion King of Beat Street) I agree. Broner already has losses to Ponce De Leon and Quintero. BTW- You may have broken the eastside boxing record for longest username. Congrats! Lol

Broner and Guerrero had words a while back. If he wants to fight Floyd that would be the perfect opponent for him right now. Who do you pick hecdog?

Squared-Circle Real Talk (a.k.a. The Lion King of Beat Street)

Oh… and I forgot to add JMM to that 7-man list of top dogs that would beat likely Broner, so that makes at least 8.

If you watched the PM and Rees fights real closely, then you know his defensive skills have already been exposed as average-to-poor in quality.
Real talk.

Squared-Circle Real Talk (a.k.a. The Lion King of Beat Street)

I think that Matthysse, Garcia, Bradley, Provo, PacMan, Alvarado and FMJ would all beat Broner. And I’m leaving off 2-3 guys who I think would have a really good shot at beating him.

Just take a close look at the attached photo. Notice how AWKWARD Broner looks compared to the pics of other fighters on ESB? His stance, technique and Philly shell/shoulder roll defense are deeply and fundamentally flawed.

He’s been getting by on his impressive, natural athletic ability, good power and speed. But these natural physical attributes will only take him so far against the highly-skilled elites at 140-147lbs. If he’s smart, he’ll go back to LW — if he can still make weight.

Posted July 16, 2013 3:24 am

Maidana is tailor made for Broner. Broner will kill him trust me. The same morons giving him grief for his last fight, will be singing his praises again. Paulie didn’t do jack in their fight he ran held and threw shoe shine punches, please. Broner followed him for all 12 rounds and now we must give him points for backtracking the whole fight.

Posted July 16, 2013 2:46 am

On one card
Maidana vs Broner
Garcia vs Mathysse
Mayweather vs Alvarez
GBP & showtime just name your price, I’ll pay without whinging this time.

I’d be surprised if Broner actually steps in the ring with Maidana let alone Matthysse who would just tear him up

Posted July 16, 2013 2:11 am

Broner is not the right style for Floyd… If Floyd beats Canelo he’s likely to fight a rematch, or a fight with Pacquiao.. Either way that will be 3 down.. Lucas Matthysse will be next.. 4 down.. By that time Broner should get his WW legs … because he should have knocked Paulie out in 5 rounds.

If he beats Maidana, Brook, and Bradley, that’s about the only way he’s getting a Floyd fight.. I think he should fight Provodnikov.

Posted July 16, 2013 1:09 am

Floyd’s ego is much more skilled and stronger, better defense and far more experienced against championship caliber ego’s, Broner’s ego is has not really been tested and appears to be much more fragile in defense. Floyd’s ego by late TKO.

I would be a boring fight. Donkey Kong was waiting on a feather fisted Paulie for counters all night. Lil Floyd will be looking to counter as well. Feints, pot shots, slow pace are all what Lil floyd wants. DK loses a boring fight while lil floyd carries him. But it won’t happen, part of being lil floyd’s protege is learning who & when to duck.

Broner and Floyd are friends so expecting them to fight is the same as expecting Matthysse to fight Maidana. Won’t happen, unless both the 140 and 147 divisions are cleared of all other viable opponents. There’s better odds of Floyd fighting Matthysse and Broner vs Maidana.

Posted July 15, 2013 5:37 pm

Being serious. Broner has all the tools and abilities to be one of the best. Yeah, he’s an egotistical, arrogant loud mouth, but he can fight. All fighters no matter how good or great they are eventually succumb to a younger, fresher, hungrier talented boxer. Floyd is only getting older, and Broner is much younger and still developing and progressing. I think he will be one of the great ones only if he stays clean and lives a disciplined life inside and outside the ring. Boxers like Ray Leonard, MUhammad Ali, Sugar Ray Robinson, Roy Jones and Floyd Mayweather rely on their speed, timing and athleticism to beat their opponents. As they get older, some decline fast, others hang on a while longer and others go a bit further, but they all go, and first it’s their legs and reflexes. By the time Mayweather fights Broner, if they do, Flloyd will have declined enough and Broner will have developed enough IMO. I wonder if they will fight, but both have huge egos, so it’s very possible.

Adrien Broner, as I have mentioned many times before will be one of the greatest boxers of all time. He will beat Mayweather in all areas. Remember, he’s only still a young brash kid that has won 3 division titles already. He will destroy Mayeather. Broner is faster, stronger, better athlete than Mayweather. Broner is the real deal, and he’s only going to get better. Speed will be the difference as well as athleticism and power. Mayweather can’t hang with a fighter that mimics his style, but is better at other aspects of boxing than he is. Broner has all the tools and the hunger and ego to put Mayweather away. It’s interesting to see Floyd, Roger and dad criticize Broner in his last fight. They are all jealous of what Broner is going to become soon. Mark my word, nobody will beat Broner for a long time. A good boxer/athlete like Floyd will hang in there for a few rounds, and then Broner tears him apart because of his speed and youth. Trust me on this.

Posted July 15, 2013 5:09 pm

Broner couldn’t tie Floyd’s shoes.

Posted July 15, 2013 4:22 pm

I don’t think they’ll fight. This is just wishful thinking on behalf of people who want to see a loss on either fighters record.

Broner can’t beat Floyd at THIS time.

Posted July 15, 2013 4:17 pm

Gonzo you HATE yourself!!

Posted July 15, 2013 3:05 pm

The hyping up of Broner clearly has this article’s writer fooled. The idea that he is worthy of being in the same ring as Mayweather is laughable given the quality of fighter he has fought to date. Broner needs to beat a few top ranked fighters before he qualifies and is even considered for getting a huge payday with Floyd. Talk and BS shouldn’t get you there but it’s happening more and more nowadays.

Posted July 15, 2013 2:54 pm

Chicago guy

Floyd fought Cotto and Mosley when they are already old and passed their prime. He fought undersized Marquez and still he cheated him in weight.

Posted July 15, 2013 2:48 pm

Seriouly, Broner needs to fight top fighters at 140 before taking on Floyd. Period.

Posted July 15, 2013 2:19 pm

Actually, Mayweather has had a championship belt at 154 for years. Thus he moved moved down from Canelo’s weight. Oh and thus the ghost was smaller and Marquez way smaller. Those other names that you mentioned already tattered blueprints to loose.

Posted July 15, 2013 2:13 pm

BTW- Pretty Boy Floyd would destroy Money May. Take that to the bank!

Posted July 15, 2013 2:11 pm

His walk around weight is actually more than Floyd’s. One thing you can’t fix is the youth factor. Floyd will be like 38 or 39 if they fought. Just old enough and just enough loss of reflexes to lose. It happens to them all.

Posted July 15, 2013 2:09 pm

I got Broner by split decision. Too young.

Posted July 15, 2013 2:08 pm

Broner needs to watch Floyd’s fights from below 147 where Floyd’s activity was higher inside the ring.

Broner needs to throw more punches from round or 2.

Posted July 15, 2013 2:02 pm

Once Arum was out of the picture, so was that fight.

Clarification: “Out of the picture as far as being Floyd’s promoter.

Now when Arum was out of the picture of both Mayweather rand Cotto, that fight was signed.

Posted July 15, 2013 2:00 pm

Broner had his hans full w paulie! Floyd at 147 is def out the question. Imo broner didnt look good at all at 147. He should fight at 140 if he cant ake weight at 135. But he is too small to fight at 147 and beat any ww with any real skill n power!

Posted July 15, 2013 1:58 pm

This writer does know that Mike Tyson never dodged anyone Pre-Prison, right?

He does know that Tyson vs. Holyfield was a done deal before Tyson went to prison, right?
And that it was the upset of Douglas Knocking out Tyson that canceled that fight. O’, and jail.
In fact, even while under Cayton, Tyson vs. Holyfield was being negotiated for Tyson’s last fight after a World Tour. It was going to be a Huge build-up to a PPV fight.
Tyson signs with King, Cayton is fired, deal with Holyfield is finished. King takes control and things get pushed back.

Lewis wasn’t even in the picture during that time.

Post-Prison: Just a Man trying to pay back bills and was no longer the fighter he once was. So Yes, Tyson wasn’t big on fighting Lewis anymore other than cashing out.

I’ve heard different things about Pryor and Leonard but did Pryor ever bother to move up in weight where Leonard was fighting???

Floyd vs. Cotto would have come off had Floyd stayed with Arum. Once Arum was out of the picture, so was that fight. And the same goes for Margarito since Floyd wasn’t going to let Arum get a piece of the pie or promote his fighter using his name.

He did however avoid a Paul Williams fight.

Cotto was past his best by the time he fought Floyd. So was Shane Mosley and Oscar De La Hoya. both of them were at their peaks when they fought each other.
Not to say Floyd hasn’t declined either over the years, he has But both those guys were still past their best.

Posted July 15, 2013 1:57 pm

People do this all the time. They want to see Floyd loose so bad that their mind gets clouded and they start making all types of ridiculous matchups. There was a thread here that had people actually arguing about Floyd loosing to the Klitchkos!!! Really folks? Is this the sort of thing we have to resort to now? Broner doesnt belong in the same ring with Floyd. Paulie couldnt do anything with Broner because like Naseem said “Paulie cant knock a glass of water off a table with a running start”. But Paulie made it a close fight and had Broner in a defesive shell with activity alone. Imagine if Broner gets in ther with a more powerful puncher. Also just wanted some opinions on something. I know a lot of people hate Floyd because of his so called arrogance and attitude. But I have to say he is still a likeable guy. Even when being arrogant theres a sense that hes not really an A-hole. Now Broner just embarrases himself everytime. Its comes off as so fake and silly. The whole pop brush my hair thing isnt even the least bit funny or endearing in any way. Is it me or does Broner come off like a fake wannabe?

Posted July 15, 2013 1:37 pm

I really like Broner but he barely beat Paulie at 147… I’d like to see how Broner deals with someone like a Berto or Amir Khan at 147… Or even Danny Garcia or Matthysse at 140…. Why are people so quick to throw him in there with Mayweather… I’m not so sure he can beat those guys I just named.

Posted July 15, 2013 1:22 pm

I believe this fight will be Floyds last or next to last also. Broner is the closest to matching Floyds skill in the ring. Please dont believe Broner struggled with Paulie. Paulie struggled with a former 135 pounder. And he knocked Paulie down with a body blow that the ref called a slip, which was ridiculous. There was no struggle for Broner. He landed at will on Paulie.

Posted July 15, 2013 1:15 pm

I said this was gonna happen as soon as AB signed to fight Paulie. Floyd is tired of the comparisons…But the main thing was that AB’s braintrust messed up by having him skip a step. He shoulda went for a belt at 140 instead of 147 and as I told other boxing writers. In Floyd’s mind Broner became eligible for an ass whooping since he wanted to be in the same weight class. its a bigger fight than Alvarez b/c we literally have someone who can match $$$ almost in skills, so once we peel away skills we see who can really fight!!! as Floyd said in the interview “ITS A BUSINESS” U AINT SEE THEM HANGING AS OF LATE DO U? AND TRUST ME WHEN FLOYD SITS RINGSIDE FOR A FIGHT THAT DOESNT INVOLVE MAYWEATHER PROMOTIONS FIGHTERS ITS TO SCOUT OUT AN OPPONENT. I DONT CARE IF THE PRESS TOUR OPENED IN NY!!!!!!!!!

Posted July 15, 2013 1:02 pm

That was the whole strategy for Broner in the first place. Move up to welter and take a title and >>>BINGO!!! big bucks to fight Floyd.

Posted July 15, 2013 12:52 pm

Why don’t we start talking up a big fight between Anthony Crolla and Floyd Mayweather? I mean if beating Gavin Rees is all it takes to qualify you for megastar status….Look, I’m all for the existence of these crossover stars with some character who will promote the sport and even if they play the heel like Broner I still like to see them do well. BUT, can we at least wait until he has SOME decent fights on his record before we give him p4p status. I mean every promotion they guy does spends more than half the time bigging up the other guy just so the win will look legitimate. Between 135 and 147 there’s probably 15 proven guys Broner could fight, get 60% of the purse against and probably beat. Do that, then start to talk about megafights.

Posted July 15, 2013 12:17 pm

Doubt the fight will happen any time soon (there’s not really any reason for it at this point).
But I’m hoping this very recent “I’ll never fight XXXX” fad stops before it gets started. The Klitschkos have a good excuse to not fight each other. But Hopkins and Ward? Broner and Mayweather? Why the hell do these guys have such a boner for each other? You’re boxers, so box.

Posted July 15, 2013 12:08 pm

I think that if Broner continues meteoric rise, he will be Floyd’s last fight of his 6 fight deal with Showtime. The big questions are: 1.Will Broner stay at 147 now or go back to 135 or 140? 2. Will Broner continue to win at 147 if he stays? Personally, I think he will get beaten if he fights the elite fighters of the 140/147 divisions, so if he wants to keep winning it would be best for him to return to 135 where I believe he is unbeatable. My list of fighters at 140/147 (besides Floyd) that could beat Broner is as follows: Danny Garcia, Juan Marquez, Tim Bradley, Lucas Mathyssee, Manny Pacqiaou, Keith Thurman, Amir Khan, Devon Alexander, and believe it or not Zab Judah. Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying all of these guys would beat him, but they have the package potential to beat Broner. I will continue with a huypothesis that if he fought all of the 9 fighters on my list, he would go 4-5.

Broner got outboxed by Yo Paulie. That ‘s what’s called “EXPOSED.” In fact he lost to PM 115-113 and was given a gift-wrapped decision, because he’s an HBO “Golden Boy” and because of crooked Haymon’s political clout with the judges.

Broner doesn’t belong in the same ring with FMJ, and anyone who thinks he does is blind or doesn’t know much about boxing. He will lose to the first elite-level 140-147lbs fighter he faces who has a whistling right hand with decent pop. Real talk.

Whether or not you “subscribe to” a fact is irrelevant: it remains a fact. Such is the nature of “facts”.

Maybe for the casual fan who confuses boxing with mma or even wrestling this would be a “good fight”. But really Broner has done nothing to show me he belongs in the same ring with Floyd. The comparisons are really idiotic. He barely got by Paulie for crying out loud. They need to be very carefull matching up Broner because hes already been exposed.

Broner made the statement that he does not want to be the first one to give floyd a loss but there is only one way to find out, both claim that boxing is a business but they don’t want to fight each other could someone actually really be frightened? lets get her done floyd needs to fight everyone that can be viewed as a real threat on his way out this is the only way to prove he is really an all time great, is broner a threat with the skills to beat him? if not prove it, lets get er done.
