It’s Me, Ernie

Time to step up Andre…

Kovalov is definately a top tier opponent and will be fighting for a title. He may just succeed.

Hopkins, Calzaghe beat him no problem, Hopkins cheating tactics, in his own country, Calzaghe still made the canny Philly look stupid.

Calzaghe would beat him easy, Calzaghe was too good for all the fighters, styles, beat them all, no problemo.

Left Hook Happy

Kovalev is now Hopkins’ mandatory. He’s also called Bernard out after the fight as the fight he wants. He’s just fought so he’s fit.

Hopkins is in training – make this fight for 4/5 wks time.

Kovalev has laid down the challenge and I’ve never known Hopkins to back down from one.

“Kovalec pivots on his jab occasionally so its a long hook. The guy is exciting to watch.” – True that. It’s what Joe Louis would do. Punch starts as a jab but he turns it over mid-flight into a hook. Kovalev has some old school moves.

This guy is getting massively overhyped.

His D id wide wide open, footwork average, he carries some pop but B-Hop exposes him big time.

I remember everybody getting wet over Sylikah not too long back.

against Ward? well, Ward is a guy I’d never bet against…

I think Kovalec would do what Cloud failed to do against Hopkins; I think he overwhelms BH with activity & power punching. But a fight with Stevenson is a different proposition because Adonis has one shot KO power so that would be an intriguing fight.

Surgey is the real deal.

Bhop will take this kid to school. I like the kid but Bhop has more tricks than treats. He will play with the kid and frustrate him with pot shots, elbows and a little head….and not the head we all love.

If B-Hop takes on Kovalev, look for B-Hop to clinch and head-butt, then get starched

Kovalev doesn’t have the type of power that will just cripple you, he has the type of power that will literally kill you. Kovalev killed a man in the ring just last year. He put the man in a coma, they carried him out on a stretcher and he never recovered.

@ Ron Larvick: I agree buddy. In addition, I think the writer of this article needs to visit his local optometrist.

I didn’t say I made any predictions. I always said that SKILLS is the most important factor in Boxing and I was CORRECT yet again!!!

Is this a joke about Jennings? Sure, he took some body shots. But it is better than taking those shots to the chin. He also showed he was really the more effective fighter on the inside. His uppercut really did the damage. Not sure what fight the writer was watching. And no power?

Jennings is the next American heavyweight champion. He has a long reach, good defense, good stamina, throws combinations, seems to have a good chin, and has good power. But most importantly, he is a smart fight. Might want to re-watch the fight buddy.

In a 4-round swing bout that took place after Sergey Kovalev’s fast TKO, Arturo Trujilo, Easton, PA, dropped Anthony Watson, Philadelphia, three times in the opening round for a TKO at 29 seconds of round one. Both fighters were making their pro debut. He is a 140 national golden gloves champ who at times goes to my gym. Down to earth guy. Hope he drops down to 147.

“Russian knockout artist Sergey Kovalev (21-0-1, 19 KO’s) obliterated Cornelius White…” – Yes Kovalev is a KO artist but I don’t think it does him justice because people presume those are one dimensional. He’s a technical boxer-puncher whose natural power puts guys to sleep. If he didn’t have that power he’d still be a solid contender because of his great footwork, balance, short punches and combinations.

As I said, Kovalev is no joke. He’s Bhop’s mandatory now but they said he’s also possibly getting a title shot at Nathan Cleverly next. I’ll put money on him beating either.

Typical “power punchers” need to set their feet to hit hard. Kovalev does it on the move and in all directions. Every punch he throws is a power punch. White fell back from Kovalev’s jabs alone. And, yes, he can box too. He has a long international amateur pedigree. So don’t start your nonesense that a boxer is going to dust him up. He has faced some good boxers and flattened all of them. Kovalev boxes with power. That’s the difference. Hopkins will not face him. It would be too humiliating for him to get knocked out by a man like Kovalev. Sergey is the heir apparent to the light heavyweight championship all of the belt holders know now he’s the one to beat.

Lion Roars

Easy meat for Hopkins.

I knew Kovalev would beat the dog dirt out of White. An easy $20 for me.

Posted June 14, 2013 11:05 pm

Kovalev deserves a title shot. Jennings vs pulev or fury would be interesting.

Posted June 14, 2013 10:55 pm

I was CORRECT yet again!!!! Its a bird! Its a plane! NOPE. Its CORRECTAMUNDO!!

This Kovalev is gonna be hell on wheels for any of the Champs to deal with. This guy is running through very competent fighters as though they are non-existent. He seems to have the type of power where he can hit you with a glancing blow and cripple you. That, and the pace this guy sets. A murderous pace, he is coming to hurt you from the opening bell.
