WBA world heavyweight champion Ruslan Chagaev and his promoter Timur Dugazaev are shocked of the passing away of their trainer and longtime friend Fritz Sdunek.
“I just cannot believe it and cannot find words to express my grief”, says Chagaev. “We have been in the gym together just a few days ago. Fritz was not only the best boxing coach Germany has ever seen but also and foremost a great and unique human being and a role model in all aspects of life. Supermiddleweight contender Ismail Özen scored his 12th win in his 14th pro fight Saturday night in front of 2,000 fans at CU Arena in Hamburg, Germany, by stopping Haris Calakovic from Serbia in the fifth round. After a slow start Özen unleashed his fury in the fifth nailing Calakovic to the corner with a barrel of unanswered punches forcing his opponent’s corner to throw the towel.
In the co-feature light heavyweight Timur Dugazaev stopped Todor Ilic from Croatia in the second round. The promoter of WBA heavyweight champion Ruslan Chagaev sent his opponent to the floor three times before German referee Timo Habighorst stepped in to stop the bout. It was Dugazaev’s third win in as many pro fights.

Fres Oquendo has filed a lawsuit in Federal Court in Manhattan against Hamburg-based promoter Terek Box Event seeking damages of $5 million and an injunction to prevent the promoter from promoting Ruslan Chagaev in any bouts until it first gives Oquendo the rematch he was promised. On July 6, 2014 in Grozny Chechnya, Oquendo fought Chagaev for the vacant WBA regular World Heavyweight Title that became vacant after Wladimir Klitschko defeated Alexander Povetkin in October 2013. Chagaev, the home town favorite and adopted son of President Kadyrov, was awarded a majority decision with one judge ruling the fight a draw and the other two judges finding for Chagaev by only one round. Andy Lee from Limerick, Ireland wakes up this morning as the new WBO world middleweight champion following an impressive sixth round stoppage win over Matt Korobov last night in Las Vegas, USA.
Lee started the fight by keeping matters at long range and was patience using his jab and picking his punches. Both boxers utilized their respective technical boxing skills in the early going with not much to split them.
In round six Lee stepped up and unleashed a ferocious right hook which stunned Korobov to his boots, sensing blood Lee moved in and unleashed a barrage of heavy punches forcing referee Kenny Bayless to stop the fight at 1.10 into the round. Continue reading
