I love the way my posts are removed because some people can’t handle the truth.

“john stricker”—and you know who that is—says, “nobody and i repeat nobody beats father time. ask roy jones” ….

Why not ask Antonio Tarver and Glen Johnson about Father Time … They’re both OLDER than Roy Jones and they both CRUSHED Roy. Some do better vs Father Time than others.

Juan Manuel Marquez didn’t flatten Pacquiao until age 39 … Floyd is only 36.

Remember your friend Gouge picked Berto to beat Guerrero… I picked Guerrero…

So you see I give Robert more credit than some people who lack expertise—and then get gun shy on the next major fight—because they can’t do a masterful analysis and breakdown of the impending interaction of skill sets, styles, and mind sets … and have no real good idea of who’s going to win or how the action is going to break down round by round.

“It well be interesting to see what happens.” LOL… That’s a cop out.

Posted January 5, 2013 4:32 pm

TARK

No I’m not Herron…, I don’t need to review Guerrero’s fights because I’ve seen dozens of them. Don’t misread me. Please. I didn’t say RG was devoid of skills. Even Basilio out-boxed many guys—but was mainly a brawler. RG is a better boxer than Basilio. He’s faster and quicker than Basilio. He’s a southpaw. His feet are better. He has more weapons and better technique than Basilio. But he has the same mentality as Basilio. The Joe Frazier mind set where he tries to be rougher and tougher and will knock heads with you or do anything he needs to do to beat you. Robert is no master boxer. He doesn’t have a masterful jab, right counter, or slick defense. My assessment is correct. Sure, RG outboxed Katsidis. Hatton is a guy he would probably have outboxed. Even Basilio. But he’s not going to match up with Floyd as a boxer. No way. He’s going to unroll the Berto blueprint and try to make a brutal brawl out of it.. Watch the fight unfold … and believe.

Posted January 5, 2013 4:11 pm

Joseph Herron

Tark, your assessment of Guerrero is off. He is not just a cagey brawler like Basilio. You’re way off man…and you’ll realize this on fight night. Also, Guerrero showed more craft against Aydin. It’s obvious to anyone who is familiar with Guerrero that you clearly aren’t.

Go back and watch more of his fights…you’ll discover that you’re way off on this one.

Posted January 5, 2013 10:32 am

TARK

Herron says…., “Tark, when have you ever seen Guerrero fight in the same mauling style that he showed us during the Berto fight?” … His previous fight with Aydin.. Another sloppy brawl at best.

Posted January 5, 2013 3:55 am

TARK

@Herron…. Yes, I’ve seen Guerrero fight many times.. He’s not that versatile. He’s a brawler. He has limited skills and he’s easy to hit.. On the positive side he is tough, durable, devious, tireless, and very determined.. I compare him to Carmen Basilio—a man who had little skill but tremendous toughness and heart.. However, Basilio never fouled anyone as viciously as Guerrero did in his last fight.

As far as your claim that Robert “Has a ring IQ comparable to Vitali Klitschko, Sergio Martinez, Andre Ward, and yes Floyd Mayweather” that’s idiotic—but then again, you’re picking Guerrero to win—so if anybody is a tool, it’s you.

Posted January 5, 2013 3:48 am

@ ArguingIdiot…. Learn how to read and comprehend dummy. I always said Floyd would win easily. I did list Guerrero’s positives and how he’s going to fight. That’s not the same as giving him a chance to win.

Holyfield beat Tyson because he was a dedicated gym rat with a resolve to one day conquer, the so called, Great Iron Mike!! Tyson came out of jail and was going thru trainers and promoters like gas stations. Tyson wasnt the same, and Holyfields huge domepiece nestled in Tysons face during the fight didnt help Tyson either! Moorers lack of concentration made George Foreman land a perfectly timed punch! George had to quit boxing, because taking those shots to the dome at his age didnt quite demonstrate “knowledge wisdom & understanding.” Prior to the bout physicians had WARNED him of the potential harm that would most likely be done to his brain – he fought anyway. They won because they were ALREADY world class athletes dipping into their reservoir of SKILL EXPERIENCE & DETERMINATION…..WORLD CLASS says a whole lot!!

Guerrero believes that Philipppians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ who strenthens me,” pertains to continually BASHING opponents in their faces, with the HOPE of rendering them UNCONSCIOUS – is how the good Lord JESUS plans to strengthen him! Nowhere in the Bible does God endorse that type of sporting Roman gladiator behavior! The 1st time I had ever seen Guerrero was when he was BRAGGING about how humble he is. Then another time I saw him DISRESPECTFULLY confront Broner for a potential fight, while outside on the street. Proverbs 27:2 says, “Let another praise you not your OWN MOUTH!” RG is NO DIFFERENT from ANY BRAGGADOCIOS upstart in the game of boxing!! Mayweather “TRAINS” like he “UNDERESTIMATES” – “NO ONE,” hopefully RG can learn AT LEAST that, from a WORLD CLASS athlete.

roughing-up a still-prime Mayweather at 147lbs is a lot different than doing it as a natural middle at 154lbs. Floyd remains a deceptively-strong welter. stronger than Berto and i suspect stronger than Guerrero. at this weight, Mayweather can counter-grapple with the best and worst of them. enough to manhandle Guerrero if that’s the way the contest unfolds. combined with this ring-smarts, resilience, and competitive ferocity to match Guerreros’, Floyds enjoys a convincing advantage. about the only category that Guerrero does match Floyd in is ring-smarts but he lacks the same degree of talent and skills to execute at the same level. a Guerrero win would be the upset of 2013. i don’t see it happening. not v. a still-prime, 147lb Floyd Mayweather.

I’m sure Guerrero knows that he’s going to give God his best and if he wins, he’ll praise God and if he loses, he’ll still praise God.

Guerrero will only win, if Mayweather has aged, which could happen anytime now. Other than that Guerrero will get schooled on the out side, in the pocket, and shoulder to shoulder.

ArguingWithIdiots

LMAO at tark. Always trying to come up with ways a particular fighter is going to beat Mayweather, and never remember how wrong he was every other time. It looks as though Tarks trend shows that Guerrero has little chance of winning. Then you have the self proclaimed Fight Aficionado, who will only be happy when he’s see’s a bigger stronger fighter beat the crap out of Mayweather, even if that fighter skill set would barely give him a chance. Any thing other than that, and FA, wont tune in. LMAO.

Posted January 4, 2013 8:50 pm

If Guerrero feels that strongly psychologically about God then he will win.

He will win because his mind is already tuned to win.

even if you don’t believe in God or have a religion that type of mind set will
set him on success.

Tark, Robert lives this way. He’s not just a card carrying member of the Christian community, Guerrero is a very devout Christian who has seen his fair share of tough times.

This isn’t just a marketing ploy. Did Casey’s struggle and eventual triumph over cancer increase and reaffirm his faith? Absolutely. But you sound like a tool challenging the integrity of a guy you don’t know.

Posted January 4, 2013 5:24 pm

TARK

The “My Lord and savior Jesus Christ” angle is something many boxers use. Pacquiao is always doing vigils, lighting candles, and burning incense. Guerrero takes it to another level and uses it for a hook. “Can’t you see what a good Christian man I am, fulfilling God’s plan to humble everyone in the sport of Boxing? How can you accuse me of being dirty when I’m a soldier for the Lord?” The fact that he says these things with a straight face goes to show what a talented actor he is. He knows he’s in the money, and is probably laughing his ass off when no one is watching. “I’m such a humble servant.”

“Nasseem Hamed used to say “Allah is never ever gonna let me lose,” Hamed thoroughly believed his god was on his side.” – Allah decided to punish Hamed for cherrypicking easy comp and ducking Marquez who was his mandatory for 3 years. And Guerrero seems to think God is choosing him over the other Christian boxers he’s fought. These boxers need to realize that Allah or God or whatever you worship doesn’t gcare about whether you beat someone down in a fight. They need to get over themselves.

Posted January 4, 2013 2:52 pm

TARK

Guerrero has a brawling style.. He’s a very tough man like Carmen Basilio who can absorb a lot of punishment. He doesn’t get tired, so if you let up he’s on you. Basilio beat Sugar Ray Robinson in their first fight by forcing a relentless brawl for 15 rounds. “I didn’t want to give Robinson a chance to breath, and it worked. I got him with a lot of left hooks and overhand rights on the inside. I’m pretty strong. He couldn’t tie me up.” Guerrero is not going to try to out-box Floyd. He’s going to use the same blueprint that worked for Berto. That’s obvious. Floyd better have his inside game cooking—and look out for that head and those thumb strikes. Robert never heard of the rule book.

Guerrero seems to change his style depending on the situation. He reminds me of Ward but without the defense.. I don’t think Mayweather hits harder than Berto, but he should have more opportunities. This could be interesting.

At this point and stage of Floyds career Robert can make it interesting but it remains to be seen..anyways, congrats to the Ghost for earning his shot at a big pay-day if nothing else.

This is a PPV event… Floyd doesn’t do freebies… Ortiz wasn’t any better than RG, but he beat Berto…so he was in the chips… Ortiz didn’t want to take a 12-round beating to collect his 5 million. I think he tried to foul out — and when that didn’t work he found another creative way to lighten his work load for the evening… RG is another guy who seems to have a few aces up his sleeve. He’s more devious than Ortiz.

Posted January 4, 2013 12:07 pm

ED

I still do not think RG rates a fight with the 2 top dogs just yet. He should be fighting Bradley…..perhaps JMarquez……even Alexander before he’s even considered a candidate for Floyd or Pac. But one thing is certain, for Floyds sake, he might as well make this fight a freebee on HBO because as a ppv attraction alone, it pretty much sucks. If two other very, very, very compelling fights were added, it could make the difference bet ppv or not. Two medeocore fights plus a fight with RG does not a PPV make.

anyway, it will take a miracle for Guerrero to prevail over Mayweather. nonetheless, at 35, Floyd’s prime must be judged on a fight-by-fight basis. the miracle Guerrero will need is for Mayweather to decline to Pacquiao* status. otherwise, Guerrero will find himself dancing with the devil himself in Mayweather’s form. that will be a Lonnng and Punishing night for Guerrero.

Posted January 4, 2013 2:45 am

i sure hope Guerrero’s relying on a different “god” than Pacquiao* because that “god” has been MIA ever since his private conversation with Manny* who was just as certain that he had been blessed with the technicolor dreamcoat. one devastating KO later, he (and his remaining fanboys) aren’t so sure . . . “Viva Cristo Rey!”

Mayweather it is. He will win by UD but no harm to Guerrero who will make the most money in one night than in his whole life up to now. It’s Guerrero who better pray that nothing prevents Mayweather from making the fight.

Nasseem Hamed used to say “Allah is never ever gonna let me lose,” Hamed thoroughly believed his god was on his side, and that “never ever” was destined! Whats so humble about Guerrero? Yet he believes he has “to humble everyone in the sport”…? What other purpose does Guerrero feel the need to do this? To psyche himself up, and psyche Floyd out, so that the “humble one” can shine come fight night? Boxing isnt some Godly sport that needs Guerrero to knock somebody out in the name of love and humility for everyone to admire him (although I must say, he WILL be admired by the Mayhaters “IF” he can pull off an upset)!! Guerrero is no guiding light in terms of attitude….so he can keep the confidence, but he better come up with a plan – skill wise to deal with the handskills of a Mayweather…. a daunting task indeed!

Posted January 3, 2013 9:13 pm

mark….is Guerrero insinuating that he’s humble and all other boxers are arrogant? King David was on a whole other mission – not on some personal bragging mission that uses a god as a means to some selfish end!! Didnt Pacquiao claim a new religion – claiming he was the BEST on national T.V. (60 minutes) – as he AVOIDED OSRandomDTng?! Why did the great “spiritual bloodline” fail him?

Posted January 3, 2013 8:50 pm

So, Guerrero now believes he’s in the sport for the purpose of a higher authority? His delusional mind state probably kicked in when he realized he actually signed to fight Mayweather. Guerreros false security coping mechanism, doesnt allow him to see that he’s leading the pack in the arrogance department of the sport!! He’ll be the one most likely humbled come fight night, due to his lack of skills and his overconfident hallucination.

Athletes work on their skills every day some guys aare fast, strong, tall, long arms short arms some are slow but hit hard. Everyone has a different skill set and they work on those skills and strengths. I dont believe n a lucky punch i.e. pac v Marquez not a lucky punch that brings disrespect to both mens craft and skill set. with this being said a football statement comes to mind “Any Given Sunday” ala Buster Douglas. Guerrero has as much chance to win against Floyd as any other athlete that respects his craft. At this point we become critics and voice our oppinions and thats the beauty of these forums hearing other opinions and view points. few here on ESB keep it clean and make it about the skill most like to just hate and talk trash. It’s all good but doesn’t express any intelligent thoughts

No need to say ugly things about Roberts faith. People draw their strength from many sources. So if he said he drew his strength from his dead mother and her last wishes would you still say crap. if so only proves your ignorance. And some of you pulling out scripture, really man thats’s so lame. Roberts had some devine intervention that has given him a spiritual and physical uplifting and theres no shame in that. To ridicule and belittle his faith is childish. I applaude his feats and his determination. This article even though it’s structured around Roberts faith we can still focus on his boxing skil. But really guys wheather he’s muslim or Christian knocking his faith is disrespectful and ignorant.

Herron… Are you serious? Or are you just joking around? Because you picked Jan Zavek to beat Andre Berto and you were claiming he was a good boxer. Now, last year Floyd had one (1) fight. He fought Cotto who could have potentially upset him. I made Floyd a 7 to 1 favorite because his speed, defense, and weapons were just that much better, but the fight was at Cotto’s best weight and not Floyd’s–which is a big factor. Floyd was a fair bet because of the odds, not a real juicy bet because he was a 5 to 1 favorite or such.

Is it mostly inactivity, ring rust, and age that lean you towards Robert? Because you’ll have to explain what Guerrero has in his arsenal, his defensive skills, his Greco Roman ability, or just what he has that’s a threat to Floyd. Because if you think there’s another referee out there who will allow RG to foul his ass off — that is NOT happening this time.

Gerrero does have a great attitude.. He’s also a great politician in saying things people will go for. He could give Pacquiao some lessons.. Robert is confident and determined to win.. He believes he will win.. Even if he doesn’t believe he will win he’s going to say he believes—and that it’s all God’s plan unfolding before our eyes for Robert to truly humble everyone in the sport of Boxing… You really humbled Andre Berto’s eyes. Whatever you were doing his eyes really got the worst of it—because it’s not like you were punching that hard or swelling up the rest of his face.

I guess God’s plan is to humble everyone but Robert Guerrero… What a convenient plan God rolled out. The only question I have is, what does God the Father, The Holy Spirit, and our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ have against Floyd Mayweather Jr.?
