Now, since Mme Duva is such a great promoter manager, she will of course organize a match between Kovalev and Fonfara, so we see how superior Kovalev is really and how easily he will dispatch Fonfara and then … and then well stll no one to fight upfront for Kovy, but that is a management strategic move probably, but lets not worry about that…Posted May 28, 2014 9:58 pm
Stevenson’s in trouble if it’s Kovalev so that won’t happen, obv. That’s why he ran off to Haymen and Showtime.Posted May 28, 2014 8:16 pm
Not At all; superman No problemPosted May 28, 2014 6:21 pm
Two main problems with SREDMOND..
1. He has clearly never boxed, and lacks any insight or ability to evaluate a fighter, as evidenced by his inane observations that aren`t based in reality.
2. He will, without fail deride the opposition level of any white fighter like Wlad, Kovalev or Golovkin, while at the same time applauding like some member of Oprahs audience being given a car every time someone declines to fight them.
It is this delight at Stevenson running away from Kovalev, or Chavez being pulled away from GGG that marks him out as not being a boxing fan, but simply a goose rolling out his tired old rhetoric, and CAPITALISATION in place of real analysis.Posted May 28, 2014 5:17 pm

fonfara is very slow. ridiculously slow. kovalev kills superman.Posted May 27, 2014 1:14 am
Ty you is so wrong….
Stevenson body shot was slow and predictable and he was aim his target down. A fighter like B-hop wouldn’t stand right in front of him. He will angle to the left or right and counter.
Stevenson better realize that you cannot aim your targets down. I couldn’t believe he wasn’t getting counter when he was walking straight in against Fonfara with his head down throwing slow body blows.Posted May 26, 2014 11:24 pm
Mr. Slater, I honestly don’t see Kovalev or Hopkins defeating Stevenson. He’s a volume puncher with devastating power in both hands. That Fonfara kid is a tough dude. He took so many vicious body punches from Stevenson that he was bleeding from the outer abrasions on his ribcage at fight’s end. How many times do you see that? At times he would just cover up on the ropes best he could, trying to protect himself from Stevenson. He took some serious punishment in this bout and was still there in the end. But he’s 25 or 26 yrs-old. B-Hop is almost 50. No way he can take a sustained beating like that for 12 rounds from Stevenson and still be there. Sure, he has a chance to grab and hold his way to an ugly unanimous decision loss, but it’s more likely that he’ll retire on his stool. It doesn’t look good for B-Hop. After that fight, ” Superman ” will put Kovalev in his sights and that bout will be for the Undisputed Title and a nice payday for both guys. There will be ONE light-heavy champ after that bout and that’s always good. A good article from a good writer.Posted May 26, 2014 12:20 pm
To Gr33nFather, it’s pretty obvious that you don’t know anything about boxing by the comments you’re making on here. To not be knowledgeable and keep your mouth shut is one thing, but to open your mouth and remove all doubt is another. Trinidad was the longest reigning champion ever at 147lbs ( seven plus years ) and he was second in defenses all time with 15 behind Freddie Cochran who had 19. A five-time world champ in three different weight classes and one of the hardest hitters to come thru those divisions alongside Julian Jackson and Thomas Hearns. B-Hop re-matched 8 or 9 different fighters over the course of his career ( sorry I lost count ), but he flat out refused to go back into the lion’s den with Trinidad. And so did Oscar Delahoya, for that matter. Both of them turned down millions not to get back into the ring with the great Trinidad. Hopkins $10 million and Delahoya 20. And that was 13 to 14 years ago! Btw, Trinidad goes into the IBHOF this summer on his first ballot. Obviously, the rest of the boxing world doesn’t agree with your assessment. Good day, Sir.Posted May 26, 2014 11:36 am
Stevenson gets knocked out by Kov. Smarter for him to fight B Hop.Posted May 26, 2014 11:33 am
Matthew Saad Muhammad, a THRILLING fighter! I have many of his fights in my collection. I had the honor of meeting him in Atlantic City and later we shared a bit at a HOF induction ceremony in Canasota. RIP Champ!Posted May 26, 2014 11:04 am
Hopkins will have been on the phone to Al Haymon already to get a fight with Stevenson, based on that performance it’s an easy nights work, it just shows that one big punch doesn’t always win fights.Posted May 26, 2014 10:47 am

Part of Stevenson’s problem is living up to the expectations which the nickname, Superman, demands. In order to dumb down expectations from this point forward in Stevenson’s career, I suggest that his new sobriquet be Blankman. The movie Blankman’s main character, Darryl Walker, as portrayed by Damon Wayans is much more likely to perform less than “Super” feats – just as we witnessed in last night’s fight. So, Adonis “Blankman” Stevenson it is from here on out.Posted May 25, 2014 10:07 pm
Although the natives looked like they were perpetually crying, I was not.
I was trying to work a Virgin Airlines hostess back to my suite.

Funny you should mention Conteh … wasn’t unusual to find him drunk on the couch growing up …
You could find John most nights down Honeypot Lane in Stanmore getting drunk with the Diddy’s.
Lived in a nice gaffe in Bushey, Watford, but like most fighters, never saved for a rainy day and liked the birds and a drink.
Terry Downes (my grandad sparred with him out of Marylebone Boys Club) was another regular, but unlike Conteh, was smart.
Lives in Carpenders Park, Watford not a 5 minute drive from where John did until I left 5 years ago. Had a stroke last I heard, but that could be rumor.Posted May 25, 2014 9:39 pm
@ HHLONDON If true then you were in Hong Kong crying your eyes out. LOL! Very weak. It aint about hate. I have admired Brit fighters for the longest, especially John Conteh and later Nigel Benn. Hatton is one of the biggest overrated fighters that has come out of England in decades.
He beat an old Kostya who’d been out of the ring for almost 2 years, Collazo beat him at his first foray up at 147lbs and Floyd reinforced that he had no right to fight at the weight again.
Try someone else Neutral Corner.Posted May 25, 2014 8:22 pm

Mayweather put on a show against Maidana. He made it interesting fighting dodging and surviving on the ropes. If FLoyd fought on the outside it would of been boring like the Canelo fight.Posted May 25, 2014 8:20 pm
Adonis fought to Fonfara’s level. He would be much better against Kovalev. Not exposed at all… at least to those who know boxing.Posted May 25, 2014 8:08 pm
@HHLONDON seems like you’re STILL sore about Pac’s scary total DEMOLITION / ANNIHILATION of Hatton. Get over it. Shake hands & hug a couple of Filipinos, it will help you heal. You’ll thank me for it later.Posted May 25, 2014 8:01 pm
How is Stevenson “running” when all he done was got paid double for the same fight?
One-fight contract, got paid double and that’s “running”?
That to anyone with a brain is “running” from the poorhouse!Posted May 25, 2014 8:00 pm
People need to stop with this garbage that people are running from Kovalev. He was the one that went in the opposite direction instead of fighting Hopkins when he was the mandatory. He took the easier rout. Nothing wrong with that since he still fought for the title but saying people are running is crazy right now.Posted May 25, 2014 7:43 pm

if u want me to take one of my turds out of retirement, give it a title, and have a fraud bout let me know.
i would not even honor his 154 fight. he fought two pounds under the weight JUST PATHETIC.

People like Redmond write 20 posts of a thousand words trying to downplay him but would never take a 1:1 bet of any significance for Stevenson against him.Posted May 25, 2014 4:36 pm
Bears, you are not remotely clever Hopkins and Mayweather are ATG’s and they will be in the HOF first Ballot without a seconds hesitation… Every intelligent boxing authority ranks FMJ at the too of the heap and he has been considered at or near the top since he was 21 knocking out Genaro Hernandez , Hopkins has the most consecutive defenses in MW history and is a 2x LHW Champ and the oldest man to win legit titles of their concrete accomplishments make the “Frauds” then those who accomplished less are BUMS ie 95% of boxing history… Duran, Leonard, Hagler, Robinson and Hearns NEVER won 4 lineal Championships and NONE remained undefeated while becoming World Champs in 5 weight classes.. Guys they are BUMS too according to your standards? Floyd has faced 11 or so Current or former World Champs in a row, when did Leonard do that? Again you are just polluting the thread with 0 facts but chew on thesePosted May 25, 2014 4:08 pm

he has not even fought multiple o the bes guys at his weight. floyd has always done that. cant call a dude great who dodges everyone relevantPosted May 25, 2014 1:43 pm
Yeah right you guys are making excuses for why these younger guys cannot overwhelm Bhop , if it was that easy then every boxer who wants to hang around would do the same thing… Nard has SKILLS that go unnoticed to a lot of blue collar thinkers or observers… Hopkins BEAT Titos azz and made his Daddy pull him outta that ring in the 12th after a sustained beating and being manhandled…Posted May 25, 2014 1:42 pm

Bears, Chad Dawson defeated and OLD Hopkins and looked WORSE after the bout than Hopkins so get your facts straight how impressed are you that a guy with Dawsons athletic talent only got a points win against that OLD man? No KD’s NO real hurt.. Chad got his “W” but Hops swag remained and STILL remained intact that’s why f@gs like you are still calling a guy that’s half a century old “A Cherry Picker” which is a JOKE….No prime age fighter facing a guy who is 49 deserves any excuses for not totally dominating or knocking out that senior citizen..Posted May 25, 2014 1:20 pm
Khan is NOT fighting in September due to his religious observances and he has already been passed on… Top Rank and GBP do NOT do business and neither do the competing networks (Showtime and HBO) Bears do you know when the last time these two bodies put on a major bout was? It was 5 years ago and that’s not likely gonna change anytime soon… Besides the fight is now STALE, move on who really cares?Posted May 25, 2014 1:17 pm
Bears, EVERYONE knows that Mayweather is NOT facing Khan in September and he just passed on Khan to face Maidana who was a streaking fighter who had just upset Broner who had just gotten titles in 3 divisions that only ODH and Floyd ever accomplished 130,135 and 147… I know, I know NOW Maidana was a “Cherry Pick” HAHAHAHA!!! You were the SAME guy that swore on your daughters diapers that Canelo Alvarez or “The Matrix” as you called him was gonna KO Floyd and what happened? he got taken to school an took his loss like a MAN saying only “Mas Rapido” (too fast) and “Muy Intelligente” too intelligent… Post fight you were puking excuses for your foolish bet against the unbeaten Mayweather yet you wanna dismiss his wins against top opposition… ODH HOFER, Mosley HOFER, Cotto HOFER, Marquez HOFER, Canelo Unifed Champ all these fighters were coming off WINS… Cotto never lost at 154 till FMJ, Canelo unbeaten, Mosley ranked #3 by RING having stopped Margo, Marquez winning… AGAIN that’s why ALL ranking bodies have FMJ as the #1 fighter P4P in the sport, a list he has been on since the 90’s…. Kill yourself novicePosted May 25, 2014 1:14 pm
Bears, a NOBODY like YOU “talking down” Floyd Mayweather means NOTHING because the boxing world, ratings agencies and history itself has NO choice but to talk him UP… Tommy Hearns was just on record discussing Mayweathers magnificience and if you are gonna say Manny is the “Man” for Floyd to beat at WW then how did he get that distinction? Beating the SAME guys at Floyd? most AFTER Floyd? ie Hatton, ODH, Mosley, Cotto, Marquez? you wanna say that Clottey and Margarito buffed up Mannys WW resume? HAHAHAHA? Mannys most difficult opponent for the past 10 years who knocked him CLEAN out!! (Marquez) was one of Floyds EASIEST opponents he lost to Mayweather 120-108 on cards a WIPE out yet at 39 he left Pacquiao facedown… I love Pac Man but whats he sporting? WBO belt he won from Bradley who most thought he beat the first time? Meanwhile Mayweather is the BONAFIDE Unifed Champ at 147 and 154 while sporting the RING Belt in BOTH divisions… 46-0 and NOT getting KOed by Juan Manuel Marquez learn boxing Kid…Posted May 25, 2014 1:07 pm
DWC, I don’t think that Stevenson is “Great” there are only a few proven GREAT boxers operating today.. pretty easy to down talk floyd when u look at the the list of fighters he dodged. dude avoids the best competition worse than anyone i have seen in history.
tszyu, paul williams, winky right, he has not even faced the best welters in pac and bradley thy fought EACHOTHER! I would not evencall floyd number one. number one does not thrive on the ortiz’s, guerreros, maidanas and kahns ofthe world.
right after looking like garbage team fraud may goes into easy fight over drive lookin for the least dangerous opponent with some market value (or they hope) KAHN!!!! mayweather is talking kahn in september!!!!

SREDMOND…You make a fair point.Anyone who can mock Mayweather about what he did inside the ring overall,is a fool or a hater. But in Stevenson he is 36 without a deep resume and the jury is still out on him as being something really great…or over the top..even if he can be the best in his divison at this time, which many doubt.Posted May 25, 2014 12:31 pm
All the more reason for Stevenson to side step Kovalev…and now maybe even Hopkins…Posted May 25, 2014 12:13 pm
If Kovalev has a tough fight they will say the SAME thing about him! no one gets the benefit of the doubt in the modern age of boxing its pretty ridiculous to be honest.. Stevenson has a scrap and he’s a dead man, Mayweather has a tougher than expected outing and suddenly EVERYONE can beat him despite 18 years of dominance frankly its comical.. Guys are not even booking a loss and being written off…Posted May 25, 2014 12:10 pm

calling a fighter average who knocks down the champ and always finds a way to win(outlast opponents) makes you look like a fool. foolish pride.bam.Posted May 25, 2014 10:25 am
I have been calling for a Hopkins vs Stenenson fight for a bit know, in the hopes of Stevenson retiring Hopkins. Last night was an indication that that is not likely to happen. Stevenson was gased after 5 rounds and began to push some of his punches and got floored because he was just too tired and held on for the win. Hopkins is too far advanced for him and is always in tip top condition. Hopkins would take him to the deep and drown him. Hopkins is relaxed and has patience in the ring and is still to slick to get hit solid. I’m guilty of believing the hype and punching power of Stevenson. I had never seen him go the distance. Hopkins should be calling Shaffer asking for this fight to be on the next Mayweather card.Posted May 25, 2014 10:17 am
Fonfara just has a iron chin everything else about him is average He was losing to Karpency and Campillo, winning by essentially outlasting them. Even Glen Johnson knew he had faded as a fighter when he lost to only ” above average” FonfaraPosted May 25, 2014 10:08 am
I had said before the fight NOT to underestimate Fonfara. I had seen him before and I knew that he was very tough. For all of you Stevenson fans, face the truth, and that is that he would be in real trouble with Hopkins and Kovalev. Nice article Slater.Posted May 25, 2014 9:54 am
