Hey Swedish.., It was a sparring session. It wasn’t a competitive fight.. Shumenov fights once a year… doesn’t have a trainer… doesn’t know how to fight… and got his title through corruption and paying off officials..
Watch Shumenov’s title winning “effort” against Campillo and you’ll agree that he was fleeing for his life and getting smashed with 5, 6, and 7 or 8 punches in a row … Only an iron chin saved him from being KO’d. He wasn’t scoring points.
Any 49-year-old with Hopkins’ experience and skill would be able to kick Shumenov’s amateurish ass without even trying.Posted April 23, 2014 4:32 pm

TARK – My friend, you are to hard on your oppinion on both Bernard Hopkins and Beibut Shumenov.
Bernard Hopkins is 49 years old and years from his best physical prime BUT that havent stoped him from still been dedicated to the sport he have served so long and won fights and titles for over 25 years of profesional boxing.
Indeed he won the fight fare & square against the 19 year younger recognised WBA/IBA world champion Shumenov.
And yes, I give Adonis Stevenson the benefit of being in stronger physical condition then Bernard Hopkins due to the age diffrence of 13 years younger BUT that doesent mean Hopkins is weak but the obvius opposite. Hopkins is still at age 49 in great condition thanks to his deep dicipline to keep himself in best shape possible for his career.
If Bernard Hopkins and Adonis Stevenson fight each-other in a WBC/IBF/WBA/IBA world light heavyweight title unification match I would still give Hopkins a chanse to win based on his long time ring expearence with 65 PRO fights (55-6-2-2 NC, KO’s 32) and fought in IMPRESSIVE 35 recognised world title fights (27-5-1-2 NC, KO’s 13), that is a lot more ring expearence then Stevenson’s PRO record (23-1-0 KO’s 24) with 3 world title fights (3-0-0 KO’s 3)
Bernard Hopkins have fought so more world title fights in his career then Adonis Stevenson have fought PRO fights.
Hopkins is a skilled fighter and never enters the ring unpreperd for any of his opponents. Adonis Stevenson will get the fight of his life to face Bernard Hopkins as Hopkins is never an easy opponent to fight.
I will cheer for the 4-time world champion Bernard “The Executioner” Hopkins!!Posted April 22, 2014 9:30 am
Fake fights, fake match-ups….What’s next??? Oh, that’s right, the Fraud Maypretender match!! FAKE as well!!Posted April 22, 2014 9:21 am
Campillo was robbed of the title by crooks.Posted April 22, 2014 1:40 am
Shumenov is the worst fighter I have seen in a long time. Hopkins last to fights were to bums. I cannot give him any credit for the fights. Just slow punching bags, Shumenov no boxing ability what so ever, a discrace what bum did he fight for a title.Posted April 21, 2014 10:24 pm
Please remember shumenov has had very few pro fights. Easy to be critical of him. Hopkins is a good fighter and I think the 65 pro fights he’s had gave him the advantage. To say shumenov is terrible is not a true statement. I have no doubt he will continue to be in the mix. The DC armory is a hard place to fight and shumenov fought there knowing that fact.Posted April 21, 2014 8:11 pm
Swedish fan.., “Hopkins was the fighter who controled the fight from 1st round to the 12th.”
NO he didn’t… Shumenov was the worst “world champion” I’ve ever seen, but he did land a lot of telegraphed punches on a very slow and listless old Hopkins and won some rounds. Shumenov is a horrible boxer and doesn’t even have a trainer.
AS will murder B-Hop. Then he’ll retire. Kov will murder AS if they fight.Posted April 21, 2014 5:18 pm

For those who is not pleased with the decision.
Those who trash-talks Hopkins’s victory to be weak with that SD are wrong and can’t have watched the entire fight.
Hopkins was the fighter who controled the fight from 1st round to the 12th and final round with Shumenov having trouble almost evrey round to keep up with Hopkin’s pace and tactics and Hopkins almost at will landed several hard right hans shots and Shumenov and was never coutered when landed.
Hopkins should have won a clear UD (unanimus decision) as the 2 judges gave 116-111 NOT 114-113 Shumenov.
Give Bernard Hopkins his rightfull deserved credit.
Bernard Hopkins just conqerd another set of world title belts and is now unified IBF/WBA/IBA world light heavyweight champion and that is a good thing.
Dont blame him for wanting to collect the world title belts like a true champion should do.
If you people who dont find it to accept Bernard Hopkins as a champion, then then go and complain at WBA &IBA for recognising Beibut Shumenov as there world champion. He had the title belt(s) and Hopkins wanted the title, simple answer.
Of those former light heavyweight champions you mention only Foster might be able to beat B-Hops and I emphasize the word “might”. Only the *Old Mongoose*, who is considered by the most knowledgeable boxing scholars the world over would decisively defeat the great Bernard Hopkins.
All the B-Hops haters out there might as well face up to it. The man is one of the greatest boxers who has ever stepped into a boxing ring. Period.Posted April 21, 2014 2:54 pm

Peej. Martinez would kick floyds ass. I see thru your crap posts. Your a black racist bigetPosted April 21, 2014 12:53 am
Bernard didn’t look good to me… Kovalev KO’s Shumenov in 2 rounds at the most… Stevenson gets Shumenov out in 5 rounds.
Hopkins looked inept trying to finish off his last two bums.
A split decision against a clown like this is inexcusable.Posted April 20, 2014 11:52 pm
Kinda makes you wonder how Hopkins would have done against Mathew Saad Muhammad or Dick Tiger or the devastating Bob Foster. This was a very good job by Hopkins against a non Boxer who has no trainer. Hops took the poor sob to school last night and beat him up in the process. Now, two more belts for BHop to unify all four belts in LHW class. The next two will not be as easy as Shiminanazamino. I like that Bhop is 49 and claims to be a 15 Round Fighter. He could go 15 easily and an old fart at that. I give him mucho credits even though he has spouted racist comments in the past. He looked very good last night.Posted April 20, 2014 10:51 pm

@Matthew…Exactly. If he would not have fought him; those same retards would swear he was ducking him. You can’t win for losing with some of these fanatics.Posted April 20, 2014 8:50 pm

He did it people, he did it!!!!! Bernard “The Executioner” Hopkins (55-6-2-2 NC, KO’s 32) once again defeated the odds and once again he won against a 19 year younger prime aged opponent, young to be his own father of.
Bernard Hopkins is just amazing. 49 years old and totaly out-boxed and outsmarted the younger and stronger champion Beibut Shumenov, a guy ranked 4# by The Ring Magazine in the Light heavyweight division.
Hopkins is simply amazing as a fighter and his boxing records and legacy just keeps to improve and become more solid as time shows us. His lagacy was long time agao secured but he is still here to make it better.
He is defenitly one of the 10 greatest boxing world champions of all times “Pound for Pound” both is victories, world titles and records broken shows all that.
Congratulations Bernard Hopkins for your superb victory and now unified IBF/WBA/IBA light heavyweight world champion!
Now they are three in thelight heavyweight division to claim world champions status.
Bhop does it again. He just makes it seem so easy. An absolutely brilliant tactician.Posted April 20, 2014 5:18 pm
From what I read that is what everybody is saying. Everybody says Hopkins took him to school. As far as Martinez, he is just overrated to me. When I look at who he has fought, just doesn’t do it for me. And I also never liked the way he kept calling out Floyd and Pac. I know there is a lot of money involved in that but he turned down fighters calling him out with titles saying they bring no money to the table but then went to call out Pac and Floyd. Martinez also brings no money to the table unless he is fighting in Argentina.Posted April 20, 2014 4:58 pm

@Peej; I think Martinez would beat Quillin. Martinez is a hell of a boxer. He proved that in the fight with Chavez Jr. I just don’t see Quillin fairing well with the likes of him with his leaky defense. If he got hit with the right hands that Koncezy hit him with last night by Martinez and especially GGG; he would have been toast!!! I hope you get a chance to watch the Hopkins-Shumenov fight. It was a good fight. I pray that the judges don’t do to him what they did to George in his last fight with Briggs by forcing him out of the game with a bad decision. That was no split decision win. It was UNANIMOUS if I ever saw one and not a close one either; by a WIDE MARGIN!!!Posted April 20, 2014 4:13 pm
I think that has to be done before he retires.Posted April 20, 2014 3:14 pm
Just win baby
Bhop is an aging veteran he needs to hang em up before he gets brutally ko’d cause he is slow and a one punch at a time fighter. However he has had some notable wins and is a hall of famerPosted April 20, 2014 3:05 pm
Unfortunately I didn’t get to see the Hopkins fight. Had a bad migraine all day yesterday and I passed out right after the Paulie fight. I will watch it when I get off today though. As for Quillen, I don’t think there is much else that can be done. He is as ready as he is gonna be. I really don’t see him getting better in his fights. He fights the same style fight and hasn’t really changed anything. I think he will make a good account of himself against the likes of GGG for as long as it last before he is KOd. As for Martinez, I think he is overrated and he may lose his next fight against Cotto. Really I only see Martinez winning because of his size and that is all. Cotto is a much better and skilled fighter than Martinez is.Posted April 20, 2014 2:49 pm

@Peej; I totally agree. I know I’m going to catch hell for what I’m about to say; but I have truly loss all interest in seeing him fight Floyd at this juncture. After watching that performance I think it is not even worth it because if he were to lose and based on what I saw; HE WOULD; Floyd would still get NO CREDIT!!! Now my assessment of Shumenov….His defense SUCKS bad. He kept dropping that left and pawing with a lazy left jab and B-Hop ate him up all night long with RIGHT HANDS. Congrats to B-Hop and those judges especially the one who had it 114-113 for Shumenov need to be banned from judging professional fights. Quillin is NOT READY for the likes of a Martinez or GGG. I watched him take unnecessary leather from a man who had no pop at 160. I could not understand for the love of me why he kept going to the ropes when he was being so successful when he kept the action in the middle of the ring. He had to learn to defend himself to the right hand. If he can’t get that together and he fights either of those two; I see him getting either stopped or taking a vicious beating!!!Posted April 20, 2014 2:18 pm
Bhop no doubt gets my respect for doing it still with the young lions at 48. I just hope it does not go south on him in one of his next fights. Everything ends and I hope he ends it on his terms vise getting beat up in the ring.Posted April 20, 2014 2:04 pm
Not sure what was so great about the Pac vs Bradley fight. They just both came in throwing punches. Not really much defense was going on. Bradley didn’t try to box, he tried to KO Pac and Pac was basically doing the same thing he has done in every fight. Jump in throw some punches and jump out.Posted April 20, 2014 1:04 pm
I’m surprised Shumenov made it this far being self-trained.Posted April 20, 2014 12:52 pm
Pacquiao vs. Bradley was great boxing, great technique, solid offense with hard shots, and good defense with good head movement and good footwork. There were no knockdowns — but it was great boxing and great entertainment.
Hopkins vs. Shumenov was great boxing, great technique, and great defense by Hopkins — and not much else.
This was not great entertainment. It was surgical, boring, and slow.
I agree it is great boxing, great technique, and great defense — but there is a reason Manny Pacquiao is one of the world’s most popular attractions and Bernard Hopkins is not.
What Hopkins is doing is amazing … but I am not sure anybody cares.Posted April 20, 2014 12:42 pm
My 2 cents
Hopkins is too much. What do you have to do to stop this senior citizen?Posted April 20, 2014 12:40 pm
I am awake and see that a 50 year old man is making history. If you don’t like the way he fights I would recommend not watching. But fact is he is making history, and will make more history if he beats the champion in Stevenson and then someone can get Kovalev in the ring and beat him.Posted April 20, 2014 12:26 pm
All I have to say was wow! If bhop was 35 no one would be able to beat Him from 160 to 175 well maybe this 1 guy who fights at 168 Christian guy goes by the name andre ward!Posted April 20, 2014 12:23 pm

Sorry James but your post is a total crock. Hopkins would school you. I bet if he beats Stevenson you will be back on here saying Stevenson was nothing and Kovalev would knock him out. Then if he was to beat Kovalev you would say the division is trash and they were all overrated.Posted April 20, 2014 12:10 pm

He’s a spoiler someone that just gets decisions cause he can’t ok nobody! He’s a punk! He’s racist and if he fights Stevenson or especially Kovalev he will be knocked out! He’s not hard to figure out! I’m over 50 and I could knock him out with ease! You just can’t let him fight his fight! Those that think he’s a legend don’t know boxing! Hopkins is only taking out the trash in the light heavies, Pascal, Cloud, now Shumenov. If he takes down Stevenson or Kovalev that would be insanely good for his age.Posted April 20, 2014 9:49 am
Now Hopkins is looking to take on the 2 biggest hitters of the division. It may not be the strongest division but it is also not that weak neither. And what Hopkins is doing is incredible.Posted April 20, 2014 9:41 am
Killing Moon The Soothsayer
Meh, congrats to Hopkins an all…But LHW is a weak div….There’s two heavy hitters at the top…and no-one else…Well, except for BHOP…He’s been milking that div for years having fights with 2nd to 3rd tier fighters Pascal,Dawson and Cloud…Now he’s fighting the Murats and Shumenovs of the world…Which is fine ..Still thinks it’s quite impressive a near 50 year old can win those fights(If you take away the dirty tactics, there is skill in the ring)..That being said…It’s not really world championship fights IMHO…But as I said earlier it’s a weak div…Let him fight one of the Jack-hammers and see if he can outhustle some real challengers…Why not? It’s not as if there’s alot of interesting fights to made unless some of the SMW move up.Posted April 20, 2014 9:39 am
Stevens has come to Showtime, no more running or using the network as an excuse for ducking him. Retirement looms on the horizon and it will be a sad way for Hopkins to go out, on his back looking up at the ring lights as the ref counts to 10.Posted April 20, 2014 9:38 am

Yes. That win is a fine way to leave the sport. Unifying belts at 49, with his health intact. Nothing left to prove. No need to fight the top two, but no doubt Hopkins will at least fight Adonis. Bhop didn’t need to fight at all over the age of 40. But he still stepped in with Tarver, Calzaghe, Pavlik, Pascal, Dawson, and Cloud! … He will fight until he gets beaten up. Will Adonis b the man to do it? Not sure. But Kov wud definitely finish the Alien off.Posted April 20, 2014 5:58 am

… “Not an amazing opponent by any means.” CORRECT!!!
He’s a non-boxer. Shumenov doesn’t have the first idea how to get under a punch. He telegraphs every punch and his form is terrible. He doesn’t even have a trainer.
He absorbs punches well but that doesn’t last for long if you get hit like he does. No wonder he fights once a year.
I’ll believe Hopkins will fight Kovalev or Stevenson when I see it… I don’t believe any more than the Pope is a Kenyan.Posted April 20, 2014 5:26 am
Great win for Hopkins. Not an amazing opponent by any means. But Shumenev was an undefeated alphabet champ. 49 years old – unbelievable really! Bhop is lucky he’s on the same network as Stevenson and not Kovalev. Adonis is beatable for Hops, Sergey is not.Posted April 20, 2014 4:54 am
