Coach – te tumbo also said that Ponce was going to stop Lopez cause “Lopez can’t take a punch anymore” and that “Ponce will get his revenge”…the problem is that te tumbo makes his picks using his heart, rather than his brain, I’d MUCH rather see Ponce win, mainly cause I’m more of fan of his than a fan of JuanMa’s, I don’t let hatred or dislike blind me, which is why I picked JuanMa to stop Ponce once again…styles make fights, it’s just one of those things, De Leon will never be able to beat JuanMa.

JuanMa Owns Mexican Ponce Deleon.. that’s just the way it is…

Posted March 19, 2014 3:33 pm

te tumbo – Not milking it at all. I’m just pointing out that it’s not hard to see that Ponce can’t beat JuanMa, he took on JuanMa that was “done” and “couldn’t take a punch” anymore and yet somehow, Lopez managed to viciously floor Ponce once again, with the SAME punch, it’s no coincidence…it’s merely Ponce’s lack of defense and the result of him throwing wide looping shots that JuanMa will always take advantage of. You need to start using your brain when analyzing these fights rather than your heart…your ‘hatred’ for Lopez shows and then you just look bitter and a lot like a hater who can’t admit that Lopez has Ponce’s number.

Are you serious with that bs comment??!! Ay ay ay ay… Canta y no llore!!!!

TITOPA, you really are milking your (ableit facile) pre-fight analysis of Lopez v. Ponce, aren’t you? anyway, i would still favor Ponce in a third-bout v. Lopez but he doesn’t deserve it any more than Lopez deserves a third matchup v. Salido, which he’ll probably get considering Salido’s status as a gatekeeper. anyway, Lopez will NEVER KO Ponce three consecutive times. absolutely impossible. too bad Lopez will never risk it. he had no choice for their second match.

Posted March 18, 2014 2:55 pm

The Honeybadger – Sorry, but Ponce will NEVER beat JuanMa, also, trilogies usually happen when each fighter wins one or there’s disputed decision losses…neither of which happened between these two.

Posted March 18, 2014 7:47 am

The Honeybadger

Both evenly matched. Everyone will want a 3rd match which Pdl will win and then have a 4th. Vasquez-Marquez and Gatti-Ward did it. These 2 need each other now. The elites will squash these guys now.

My first post when this fight was announced:

“Hmm. De Leon taking advantage of a watered down version of the old JuanMa, even then, JuanMa has a chance…he BLITZ through De Leon the first time around, I mean, DESTROYED him…I can see him getting De Leon again”

Posted March 17, 2014 5:34 pm

te tumbo – I didn’t mistake JuanMa’s right hook for “Ponce’s carelessness”, I said (I’m sure you recall) it from the jump that Ponce will get caught, I called this one to a TEE. Yeah, the ending was a bit anticlimactic and it kinda put a damper on a true TKO/KO win that I believe Lopez would’ve gotten either way. But that’s just my opinion. I’ll forever pick Lopez’s counters as the reason he’ll always be able to beat Ponce.

Posted March 17, 2014 5:20 pm

te tumbo – Same reason JuanMa was never able to defeat Salido, JuanMa was never able to overcome that relentless pressure and swarming attack…same way Ponce was never able to to fully commit to his punches vs JuanMan without worrying about a counter, that southpaw stance is killer for Ponce, Ponce’s looping shots can (and have) worked vs conventional fighters, but against JuanMa they don’t, why? Cause JuanMa throws short crisp hooks as Ponce loops his around, JuanMa will always get there first…it’s not a “fluke” if the SAME punch works on TWO separate occasions, luckily for Ponce he was in good shape and was able to recover, cause that shot was VICIOUS!!! As I said before this bout, JuanMa will be a nightmare for Ponce, even if Ponce were to win.

TITOPA, what is Lopez’s “style”? IMO, he’s been exposed for not having any style(?!). what he does have is a dangerous and chopping right hook. it’s dropped Ponce twice and even put Lopez’s “Papi” Salido on his trunks. i’m incredulous at Ponce’s carelessness but it’s history now. EVERYone including Ponce knew that officials would jump at any opportunity to avoid the rican fighter losing at home. it almost happened to Salido who was behind(?!?) on the scorecards v. Lopez. fortunately, scorecards are trumped by KO wins.

Posted March 17, 2014 4:11 pm

Fight Aficionado

An important win for Juanma but I won’t buy that he’s back until he beats another top 10 guy. DPdL could simply be a perfect stylistic match up for him.

Posted March 17, 2014 2:43 pm

te tumbo – Well, I think the ref should have let it continue for another 20-30 seconds to see how Ponce was going to respond, but I just didn’t see any other outcome than a TKO/KO win for Lopez…as I said prior to this fight, JuanMa WILL BE HELL for Ponce no matter what version of Lopez shows up, cause styles make fights, and JuanMa simply possesses the style that will FOREVER trouble the best version of De Leon imaginable.

Posted March 17, 2014 11:36 am

This one is hard to decide. It’s not like Juanma didn’t hurt or drop Ponce. He was wobbling around. I say it could have gone longer but when you are a ref & the fighter has been dropped twice & is on the ropes getting punched it’s normal to step in & stop it. People think Juanma didn’t do anything & the ref just stopped it for the sake of it. I don’t really think any real controversy but I have always said regardless what happens there are always haters of the Rican fighters.

Everyone said easy win for Ponce same thing they said when Danny fought Matthyse & low & behold the Rican wins & all the hate.

As for Garcia fight props to Herrera. I said he was going to be tough. Guy is no slouch & when he becomes champion we will realize that. Then Danny may get more credit for close win. This may become a fight that will look better over the years. Herrera beat provodnikov. Don’t forget that. In a close fight it’s no surprise that people will complain.

Oscar had his Strum
Tito had his Oscar
Vargas had his Wright
Floyd had his Castillo
Pacquia had his Marquez ETC. ETC.

“do you really think Ponce was gonna handle JuanMa’s power for the remainder of the bout?” Yes, because Lopez has never been difficult to hit and I would bet on Ponce’s chin over Lopez’s any time . . . except not in PR where they apparently get queasy over unfolding ring-wars. bottomline, if you also believe the stoppage was premature, what else is there to debate? all other scenarios are rendered moot because of the premature stoppage that resulted in another unsatisfactory conclusion to this matchup.

Posted March 17, 2014 11:29 am

te tumbo – The fight was definitely stopped prematurely, but c’mon man, do you really think Ponce was gonna handle JuanMa’s power for the remainder of the bout? and, this is the old, shop worn-no chin having JuanMa, Ponce thought this time he could get away with looping his shots, but just cause JuanMa can’t take a good shot anymore doesn’t mean he no longer possesses those lethal short hooks that Ponce will FOREVER be vulnerable to. The can fight 10x, and JuanMa will win, all 10. Styles man, styles.

Posted March 17, 2014 11:18 am

they need to import some real fight-fans to PR for these promotional set-ups. that way we could’ve at least JuanMono and Garcia pelted with garbage for accepting their bogus “Ws”. you can’t expect rican fans to have the appropriate response to these fixes and scorecard muggings. accepting handouts is the culture over there.

Whoever decided that that the Title must be taken from the champ? The rounds are scored one at a time and whoever wins the most rounds wins the fight. The champ puts the belt on the line up for grabs once the bell. Rings. Herrera won the fight and should have been declared the champ. Garcia received a boxing lesson and the promoters who envisioned a bout between Garcia and Mayweather witnessed a big bout being lost. Garcia cannot now be hyped to be the man to beat Mayweather.

I wonder how much Te Tumbo is enjoying himself now. He kept calling Juanma Juanmono, but who is the mono now? Wait, it must have been another fluke win of Juanma over Te Tumbo’s idol.

Posted March 16, 2014 10:02 pm

Premature stoppage, but I don’t know why the commentator is seeing only two punches landed, I saw four land before the ref jumped in…and the second knockdown, was knock down, look at the way DeLeon got back to his feet and how he was still wobbling around.

Posted March 16, 2014 7:03 pm

Angulo had nothing in his punches because he was paid to throw the fight. He was not paid to win. In none of this fights, especially agaist Kirkland, did Angulo fight in such an anemic like state whose punches had absolutely no authority and actually appeared to be thrown just for visuals and not because he wanted to win. Not one punch did he throw or landed were thrown with any intention to win or to hurt. Boxing, under Schaefer and DLH, is becoming nothing but a shame and worse, it’s fraud on a grand sale. Who knows how many bets were offset by this type of shenanigan which is putting it mildly. Fortunately, I didn’t spend hard earned money to give to these bunch of shysters. First the mexian low lifes (cartels) take over mexico, now we have another throwing fights to line his own pockets in the name of boxing. Truly unprecedented. Leave it to those from SOB to be scheming since they have no other way of earning money legitamately.

Juanma is a gatekeeper. No doubt. But he won’t last night square and fair. Regardng to the comment about Garcia not being Puerto Rican I will say this. If 2 German shepherds have puppies in the USA. Do they become American Shepherds??

Posted March 16, 2014 4:48 pm

el chapo

Interesting night of fights…Finally got to see a bit of the Alvarez/Perro showdown. Wow, Angulo had absolutely nothing in his punches – not any power or speed – from round ONE!! That dude is DONE. Then Juanma pulls it out of the bag and sends Ponce into the abyss with one well placed punch on the button. Granted the fight should have continued, but Ponce may have wound up suffering a much worse fate. Then on his biggest stage yet, and after weeks of talking about what a great Puertorican champion he is (he really isn’t Puertorican) he almost drops the bowling ball. And of course Scott goes down from a non-punch… It’s the theatre of the unexpected…

Posted March 16, 2014 4:11 pm

Interesting. I thought Froch-Groves was stopped too early, but understood the decision. This made no sense by comparison – should have continued. If Froch-Groves 2 had to be made, surely a 3rd bout (which is really a second given the length of time since the 1st – they’re different fighters now) has to be made.

Posted March 16, 2014 3:13 pm

Here’s what Te Tumbo said before the fight, “JuanMono was never that good. his bouts v. Gerry Penalosa and Mtagwa revealed that. his KO win over Ponce was also a fluke. i’m gonna enjoy watching Ponce get his revenge in a rematch that Lopez would’ve never granted if not for the fact that he has no choice. he’s simply not that good and Never was.”

Te Tumbo, who’s enjoying his time right now…surely not you. Oh, wait a minute, “this win was a fluke as well”.

Posted March 16, 2014 2:19 pm

JuanMa will always be “el cuco” for PDL. Just like Salido is for JuanMa. “Styles make fights”

Posted March 16, 2014 2:08 pm

I thought. Ponce wd beat juanmana this time he just got careless. When he tried to finish him off… the fact thay lopez wa not really hurt….both are great warriors…always willing to risk……maywheater should learn and wishes he had yhe heart this two fighters hav …..i was rooting for ponce…but the best man won last nite…….greetings to all the boricua…..from this mexican boxing fan.

Posted March 16, 2014 1:54 pm

The Facts ! – That’s what I think, that’s all I was saying…I didn’t say that was for sure or that it’s a fact. But I just don’t see De Leon EVER beating JuanMa, stylistically, JuanMa will always be a nightmare for De Leon, it was evident in this fight (as well as the last), De Leon is a sucker for short hooks on the inside, he throws too wide and his chin is there, Mares took advantage of that flaw as well, problem here is JuanMa hits harder than Mares.

Posted March 16, 2014 1:38 pm

So a potential good fight was stopped to early and the mismatch of the night ended up being a controversial victory. This is boxing at its best.

Can’t really say the ropes where holding him up. But he wasn’t throwing till the ref stepped in. I still think it was early though but hey he waited to long till he responded.

Posted March 16, 2014 11:42 am

Great fight. This fight was under the three knockdown rule. Ponce had been dropped twice already so was on thin ice. He was then up against the ropes receiving a final barrage of punches. Hurt or not were the ropes preventing him from being put on the canvas again? If so, that’s three strikes. Either way the ref had a difficult call to make.

I don’t know what’s with these referees ,, i guess they have never spar or been in a boxing match before ..when a fighter gets stun he automatically covers up and weathers the storm . this ref did not give De Leon a chance to weather the storm . most of the punches Juamma was throwing at De Leon against the ropes were were not hitting the mark .

Posted March 16, 2014 11:29 am

The Facts !

To Titopa ,,You can never say that a fighter was going to lose anyways ..With the power DeLeon has he could have turn the fight around with one punch . Early stoppage by the ref ..

Posted March 16, 2014 11:17 am

te tumbo – didn’t I tell you that Ponce will and always be sucker for that short hook? Premature stoppage, but Ponce wouldn’t have won, he would’ve eventually been hit by that shot again.

Lopez should now be tossed in v. Gonzalez or Burgos or even Martinez. it’s too much to give Ponce another shot unless Lopez is given another shot at Salido(?!). anyway, somebody’s gotta light this zombie up once and for all.

Stopped too soon.

Posted March 16, 2014 10:28 am

Wasn’t really expecting that to happen. Though it was an early stoppage in my opinion De Leon really wasn’t throwing any punches back until the ref stepped in. Looked liked he was on his way out. Like I said was not expecting that.

Posted March 16, 2014 9:38 am

Home Job! JuanMa was given a gift lastnight, if he steps in with any of the champions he wont last 6 rounds. Stay in Puerto Rico and fight the local talent because out side the island he’s nothing more than a gatekeeper. Another Black eye for boxing.
