Crack (Floyd’s) Head
Boxtra, it aint all about money and paper championships but fyi Jordan’s networth is still $650 million while Floyd’s Networth is $70 million.Posted March 6, 2014 11:14 am
I HAVE ALWAYS had a real issue with these weigh-ins 24-36 hours before the actual fight and I have come up with a suggestion which I would be interested in hearing other ESB posters and those with an influence within the game viewpoints.
The easiest way to kill all the drama regarding weigh-ins, whilst still creating all the hype is to have a live check-weigh-in either the day before the fight or two days before, where both fighters should weigh-in, say no more than 2 pounds above the stipulated limit.
This way we will be able to know just which fighters are playing fair and like in the case of a Castillo, a Guzman or a Broner, which fighter is cheating to win!!!!
There will be more drama as this will create news, create a buzz and is actually fairer to all parties, because we will then have the Official weigh-in on the morning of the fight, which was the traditional and fairest thing to do!
It will show who is working properly for the fight and it will stop the last second brinksmanship for people to get angles on the fight.
I wish someone puts this forward to the organisations, because us fight fans will then get what we want. More transparency over the fighters and their attempts or non attempts at making weight.
The sanctions for not making these limits should be a one year blanket ban across all organisations so a fighter who doesn’t make weight cannot fight for any version of a title for a year – maybe a little harsh, but will focus their minds.Posted March 6, 2014 8:01 am

tark – amateur boxing has gone back for its future. the head gear is gone – as is the tap-tap-tap computerised scoring (admittedly the system that needed 3 of the 5 judges to score a punch was dumped for a better system a few years ago). now its got the 10 point must system. as a result of these changers fighters will be once again serving an apprenticeship in the amateurs and will come out more equipped for the pro ranks. the old scoring system ruined amateur boxing as programs in multiple countries taught their fighters not to bother with fighting any way except in the manner that was most likely to get 3 of the 5 judges to see and score the punch. – there were also tests done that established the computer system couldn’t register more than 3 punches (ie getting the consensus of judges to push the buttons more than 3 times in succession) this lead to amateur boxers rarely throwing more than 3 punch combos or sequences. amir khan is a great example of these faults – of course there are exceptions like ward who was taught a pro style of fighting inside but had the skills and speed to fight also on the outsidePosted March 5, 2014 9:50 pm

Tark- I agree. Pro & amateur is a different game. Corruption or at least incompetent judging exist in the amateurs. You see a fighter who has one of the bigger name local trainers(Lyle -RIP- in this area) breeze through the prelims & clearly lose in the final round. But get the decision. The new amateur rules are going to eliminate head gear for some. Not sure that is going in the right direction. May as well skip the amateurs if you are going to the same brain damage. I will be glad to see computer scoring gone though.Posted March 5, 2014 7:18 pm

Amateur pedigree helps a fighter no doubt. It is the rare fighter who can become a beast of a professional with little amateur background. Foreman, Duran, Chavez Sr. & Toney come to mind. The transition from stand out amateur to pro tends not to pan out more often then not. Harrison, Bojado, Abuleve(?) are recent examples of that. Still waiting to see how Shiming pans out.Posted March 5, 2014 5:12 pm

Floyd IS better than Jordan. And he is PAID as SUCH. He’s better than every athlete in the ENTIRE History of Athletics. First man to get a $100 million a YEAR contract…..Floyd WON his first Championship at 24 yrs old. Jordan didn’t WIN his first Championship until he was 28. Jordan WON his last Championship at 37. Floyd is about to WIN another Championship at 37 and he will WIN one at 38 TOO. Floyd has WON 10 Championships and about to WIN 11 like Bill Russell. Jordan only WON 6. Jordan is MUCH LESSER than Floyd. Only basketball player in Floyd’s league is Bill Russell who WON 11 Championships in 13 straight seasons. Floyd is about to MATCH him on that.Posted March 5, 2014 3:24 am

Laurence Cole won the fight for Salido. Lomachenko out landed Salido, remember Salido landed most of his blows on Lomachenko’s legs, hips, balls, etc., not to mention hitting on the break, and all the talk about Lomachenko holding, well………..Salido held on for dear life in the 12th round. Laurence Cole is an idiot, the worst referee in boxing, appeared to be on the take, this is not the only fight Cole has ruined. Lomachenko should file a protest. If all the low blows are OK, then they should reverse the decision of Bowe/Golota………
Golovkin is skilled, good chin, not easy to hit, punches very hard, will go to chavez’ body, and knock him out!!!Posted March 5, 2014 1:21 am

Surprized ….. is twice as fast as ggg, I had Chavez hitting GGG 3-1 or more, the left could not miss. Head and hook and body, and GGG was comming forward, he had a hard time hitting chevez , but chevez has a strong jaw. He also has dropped Martinez. GGG hate to get hit. And we don’t know if he can take a punch.”
Mike Tyson you know nothing about boxing who are just lying about the “long tape” so what happen Chavez couldn’t do nothing to ggg that is in YouTube that we can watch but somehow he got beat only in the tapes you saw ??? @Dr. Phil Thieze-Knutz – “Emphasis is hit quickly & run, wait out a shorter clock.”
I’d agree in some cases, but not all. Rigo was a defensively minded amateur (and is the same as a pro), but others like Golovkin were step-up fighters even as amateurs (which is testament to his abilities that he can win on punch-counts even when moving forward).
Big difference between GGG and lomancheko, GGG 29 pro fights vs Lomancheko 2 pro fights. Now GGG walks through punches against, Stevens, ishida, macklin, Proksa and not mention willing to take Rosado on despite with the FLU. I do agree that there’s a lot still to prove for GGG, so let’s not jump to any conclusions about him trying to cherry pick until we really know why the big names are either avoiding him or if the politics are interfering. In the middleweight there really is no one that comes close to beating him, Martinez already dodged him so maybe he needs to try to drop to 154 to face the likes of ? That GBP will accept. So maybe Chavez is the right choice at this point, but I would like to see the winner be mandated to face Ward immediately. So lets not jump to conclusions for now I’m sure GGG will not back down to no one!!Posted March 4, 2014 6:45 pm
Dr. Phil Thieze-Knutz
Too many amateur fights in the current format doesn’t prepare a fighter for a pro style. Emphasis is hit quickly & run, wait out a shorter clock. Pro style scoring is based on landing effective shots. Every honest pro judge will score a big, clean shot over a few light connects. You also have to economize your work rate & make your shots count. Because their is a big difference between 5 rounds & 10 rounds. Bieberstradamus wouldn’t know anything about this. He is still guessing aloud what it is like to get in a ring. Note all the basketball metaphors. Stick to prophesying, it doesn’t require any experience or technical knowledge.Posted March 4, 2014 5:58 pm
Actually if you fight in a tough man competition then you can’t fight in the amateurs. And if you are getting paid then you are a pro.Posted March 4, 2014 5:55 pm
Again amateurs are gonna be fighting without headgear and shirts as do plenty of tough man competitions but it doesnt make them proPosted March 4, 2014 5:34 pm
Well once you take off the head gear, the shirt, and fight longer than 3 to 4 rounds at the professional 3 minutes a round. And you are getting paid for it. That is a professional.Posted March 4, 2014 5:13 pm
“GGG has in fact made contact and initiated contractual dialog with the Chavez/Top Rank camp; yet never did this for a Martinez bout with Team DiBella. Theres no pleasing some people. Lomachenko is no hype job. He fought a world class guy in his second pro fight, went 12 close rounds and that’s an achievement in itself. Deontay Wilder hasn’t fought a world class fighter in 30 fights. One thing must change and that’s rehydration and weight making. Salido came in about 147 I believe, 11 pounds heavier than Lomachenko. To me this is not fair. The weight is an issue and could prove fatal in some cases. Look what happened to Joey Gamache as an example. He never fought again. As foe Lomachenkos future Id like to see him brought along like Miquel Cotto or De La Hoya. The guy is talented but needs some time to get used to the pros.Posted March 4, 2014 4:57 pm

No coach in this World could have gotten Canelo to beat Floyd. He just didn’t have the tools. He could have been more competitive YES but he didn’t take MY advice. I TOLD him to come IN at 150 and train for SPEED not POWER. Putting TOO much power on your shots gives your opponent more time to react and when your opponent is a Defensive WIZARD like Mayweather IS you can’t DO that…Guys like Floyd and Rigo are just too GOOD defensively. You have to attack them with mainly quick straight shots which give them the least amount of time to react. Loading UP your punches will not only result in a missed shot but it will also result in you getting countered….Might not be pleasing to the fans but stick to the mostly straight shots like Cotto DID. You sprinkle IN your loaded shots for SHOCK value.Posted March 4, 2014 4:30 pm

Lomachenko is moving at a SNAIL’s pace compared to Floyd. Floyd WON a World Championship at 24 yrs old. Loma tried to WIN one at 26 but didn’t DO it. But they say he’ll get another shot since he faced a guy that didn’t abide by the rules before or during the Fight. Even IF he manages to WIN his next shot he remains at least 2 YEARS behind the GOAT.Posted March 4, 2014 3:32 pm

Vivek never disappoints. Lomachenko fought the best guy at his weight, who as the “salty vet” that he is weighed in at a weight class above and outweighed Lomachenko by 12 lbs on fight night.
This was Lomachenko’s second pro fight. Floyd fought Reggie Sanders, 1-1, to a UD in his second pro fight. It took him 18 fights until he fought anybody close to as tough as Salido. In Floyd’s 9th fight he fought a guy with a 1-13 record.
In most people’s eyes, Lomachenko beat or drew Salido. He had him knocked out on his feet in the 12th round. He was fighting not only a guy hitting him low 25 times but also a corrupt ref. Lomachenko outlanded Salido by 22 punches, landing at 37% to 22% for Salido. Somehow Vivek disregards all that.
What a complete joke Vivek is as a boxing scribe. He’s laughable!Posted March 4, 2014 2:24 pm
“Was very surprised to see Lomachenko lose to Salido the way he did. I noticed that you predicted Salido to win.”
STOP IT!!!! Everybody knows “Craig B” is Vivek. NOBODY is that fawning, EVER!! Everyone knows who your questions are written by so stop thinking you’re fooling people. Nobody with a brain buys it.
Saying Golovkin and Lomachenko get hit while Rigondeaux is a great defender is nonsense. Macklin knocked Marinez down and hit him with a lot of punches. He landed one of 25 jabs on Golovkin and bit the dust early.
They’re ALL great defenders.
Rigo is the only one of the 3 who’s been on the canvas. Loma got hit with some shots—but he was in with a welterweight who knocked out Juan Manuel Lopez twice. He defended brilliantly for a guy in his 2nd pro fight versus a world champion pro… I said before the fight that Vasyl needs at least 8 more pro fights to round out his pro skills.
Lomachenko landed more punches above the belt than Salidio did. He should have been awarded the decision. He finished the fight fresher and less damaged than Salido. With a neutral referee Lomachenko would have won the fight easily because the low blows would have resulted in point deductions. I’ve never seen that many low blows thrown by any fighter in my life.
The verdict in the Lomachenko-Salido fight will help Lomachenko develop his skills. He was trying to do something unprecedented by winning a World Championship in his 2nd pro fight. He thought he could rub out Salido in a couple rounds and get an immediate fight with Rigondeaux, who he thinks he can beat.
That was an ambitious goal but it was a little too progressive. Having an amateur record of 396-1 can give you a false sense of your greatness—since nobody else has ever accomplished that. Loma will obviously reassess and look for boxing matches that will advance his skills… He’s not ready for hardened pros like Mikey Garcia or Rigo yet.Posted March 4, 2014 2:23 pm
Yo vivek…beware the GGG faithful…lol….u said he hasnt faced anyone elite “skillwise”. To me is very true, but just ur locked and loaded….lolPosted March 4, 2014 2:05 pm
