“But there is a reason he didn’t want a rematch and that was because he took a lot of punishment in that fight.”

Peej, you can beat the dead horse all you want but it will never get up and run again. Calzaghe beat Hopkins and that’s that.

prime hagler would of walked through the lot of em.

Please, that was an old Jones Jr. If that would of been a preheavy weight Jones Jr he would of toyed with Calzaghe. Calzaghe was no match for a prime or preheavyweight Jones Jr.

Huge huge Hopkins fan, but I have to admit Joe beat him big time. Hopkins had to use all of his hussle to make the fight look so ugly and it eas all he could do to keep Joe off him. If he had not have used all that holding and spoiling he would have had the same beat down Jones Jnr had.

Hopkins beat up Calzaghe but Calzaghe out worked Hopkins so he got the win and rightfully so. But there is a reason he didn’t want a rematch and that was because he took a lot of punishment in that fight.

Kellerman had it right when he said words to the effect that “Hopkins isn`t trying to win, he is trying to not lose too badly”.

It`s a gatekeeper attitude not a champions attitude, and Hopkins has to fester in the knowledge that’s what Calzaghe made him act like.

Swedish, Calzaghe wanted to retire as a champion. Not because he didn’t want to face Hopkins again. Joe made his statement, then retired. Too bad a lot of other champions over the course of boxing history haven’t been as wise as Joe.

Turbo, I agree with you. Hopkins’ loss to Calzaghe will eat at him for the rest of his life. After all that was that fight in which Hopkins said “No white boy is going to beat me.” But Joe did. Bummer. :)

Joe’s win over Hopkins was no gift, Swedish Boxing Fan. Calzaghe pulled out the win in the last two rounds of a very, very close fight. He did beat Hopkins.

Calzaghe made Hopkins embarass himself with cheap tricks and play acting to avoid getting KO’ed.

He didn`t just beat him, he bent his psyche over a sofa and shafted it sheep style.

Bernard knows this. He knows that Calzaghe owns him, then, now and forever.

Joe clearly won the fight. No doubt about it. Hopkins playing acting was pathetic. He’s an embarrassment to USA boxing. I can’t wait for him to quit boxing so the USA can regain some respect.

PEEBRAIN shut the fook up, you’re talking utter crap again. You’re a fooking idiot.

Yes Calzaghe clearly won because he out worked Hopkins but Hopkins beat him up and that is why he never wanted a rematch even though Hopkins wanted one.

Joe won despite Hopkins play acting and time wasting

Calzaghe clearly won the Hopkins fight. No question.

Joe Calzaghe. The greatest fighter ever. FACT.

Swedish Boxing Fan

Joe Calzaghe, a great fighter yes, a great champion yes he was as well BUT he got lucky against Bernard Hopkins with that gift Split Decision. I had that fight 115-113 for Bernard Hopkins. Lots of famous boxers and ex champions who watched that fight including Mike Tyson and Ray Leonard stated after the fight they had Hopkins as the winner. ESPN, Yahoo Sports etc had the scores 114-113 for Bernard Hopkins at the end of the fight. Hopkins was the best fighter from start but Calzaghe was the better fighter in late rounds but by then Hopkins had allready secured the fight (!), well that was what we thod. Again a close fight it was and in a fare way a DRAW would not been to far away BUT Hopkins fought the smarter fight with his inside fighting to Calzaghe and his right handpunch landed almost at willl in Calzaghe´s face. I dont want to bring this so repedetly discussion about “who won” etc but I feel Calzaghe have over the years got far to much credit for this fight when it was Hopkins who fought better. Now, End of story. I’m sure Joe Calzaghe have a nice retirement and that he will bring some entertainment on TV.
