Gary you won’t have to worry about crowd noise. This is a Ward fight, there will not be a crowd to make any noise.

IF IT’S TRUE that ticket sales are lagging then lets take a look: Choosing Ontario CA for this match is another of boxing’s funny puzzlers – The Oracle in Oakland would have made much more sense. Even MSG in Manhattan or the new “Mecca” in Brooklyn would have made more sense. Ontario is a 7 hour drive from Oakland (with moderate traffic) whereas Andre has filled his home base, the Oracle on several occasions. A MSG or a Barclays venue would have offered the marketing teams just enough time to work on the growing Dominican fan base in the entire tri-state area. Fancy packages could have been arranged to include bus/train transport from 4 other northern states with motels, hotels, city tours, booze cruises, helicopter rides and a buttprint autograph from the naked cowboy in Times Square (For the lady companions) all in an effort to sell a complete ‘Autumn Excursion’ and possibly reduce the carbon footprint of the match. They could have stuck 2 or 3 popular NYC polish boxers on the card and definitely sold the house out as well as tripling the international press coverage.

GarytheBronx: Are you saying that we should go back to the days of the London Sporting Club where there was silence during the rounds? I can’t see it working somehow old fruit!

Rodriguez has done his bit and sold a couple of thousand tickets now it’s just up to Ward to see if he can shift his 100.

Good post Gary. That would be an awesome experience. The announcers absent indeed.

This fight is going to be another stellar war of the chins and trainers. Age is no factor, size is no factor, experience certainly sides with Ward but Rodriguez has had a meteoric rise with virtually no wear and tear. Both have excellent jabs, double jabs, triple jabs but the power shot following the jab is where the Dominican can win this fight. Ward has to be spot on with the counterpunches and chameleon like adjustments just to get into the later rounds. The long layoff Andre’s had recovering from surgery could easily cause him to be just a tenth of a second out of time with his head avoiding those bombs so he risks getting floored at any point. WIth the referees and judges counting boxers out prematurely and mis-scoring bouts I believe training to PROPERLY handle a knockdown is paramount for Ward. Nonetheless, Ronnie Shields vs. Virgil Hunter as preparers is as good as it gets in the modern era – Thanks for this matchup – Every Potential and all the ingredients are there for this fight to have better fireworks than Bradley vs. Provo. I just wish there was a way to watch this (and every other fight) with only the ring sounds – No announcers, no crowd noise, no announcers, no announcers.
