could be ……’A GREAT TRAINER” is the guy that trains top fighters…or maybe not.
…that was funny……also truePosted September 20, 2012 5:54 pm
Gotta wonder if it is because Roach didn’t do enough for Khan..due to ROach’s very busy schedule …and not R0ach’s ability to be an excellent trainer .
deja vu all over againPosted September 20, 2012 5:50 pm
I bet Roach is celebrating.Posted September 17, 2012 4:05 pm
I didn’t say he did – try reading things properly.Posted September 17, 2012 11:48 am

@ Ozzy down below,
Marcos Maidana looked like a completely different boxer this weekend, using new skills that are making the new Maidana a real threat at 147. He’s improvements come after training with Robert Garcia who also trains Donito Donaire, Mikey Garcia, Brandon Rios, and now Maidana….. What makes Khan so special that he requires all of Freddy Roache’s time?Posted September 17, 2012 1:37 am
Squared-Circle (a.k.a. LionKing)
As if dumping Roach is going to do anything to improve that glass jaw. Khan is fooling himself here and will find that out the hard way.Posted September 16, 2012 11:37 pm
Is it just me that thinks this is an attempt to bask in the reflected glory of Andre Ward instead of Manny Pacquiao?
Khan has limited appeal in the UK, he’s a nice kid from a small town that are rightfully proud of him, but unlike Froch, Brook, Price, Burns, Haye, Fury, Cleverley, even Hatton he can’t rely on huge “home town” shows so needs to make his money in the US.
Questions are starting to be asked about Roach, as well as Khan himself, by associating himself with the trainer of Andre Ward, and Ward himself, he’ll probably get another couple of fights before fans realise what many already know…he’s just not good enough!!Posted September 16, 2012 6:19 pm
I’m suprised that Virgil Hunter is going to be Khan’s new trainer – surely it can’t be true it seems far too wise a decision to come from Team Khan .
You don’t need the full time attention of your trainer.. The best trainers are pretty damned busy.. You need a lot of quality time where your trainer tells you—and shows you—exactly where you’re going wrong and exactly the steps to correct it. Be it during pad work, bag work, shadow boxing, and especially sparring, you need quality time and a corrective program laid out …. If you getting distinct revelations and you’re clearly grasping things as he tells and shows you, he’s the right trainer.. If he says things you’ve heard a thousand times before, and uses platitudes, you don’t need him.Posted September 15, 2012 8:13 pm
I APPLAUD Khan for taking MY advice. I SAID that he should hire a Mayweather or Hunter and he’s doing that. Keep listening to ME and you’ll become an ATG.Posted September 15, 2012 6:21 pm
Half the boxers on the planet would happily play second fiddle to Pac just to work with Freddie.Posted September 15, 2012 3:41 pm
Khan has done the only thing he could do. Throughout Amir’s time with Freddie he’s played, quite rightly, second fiddle to Manny. Amir should never have agreed to such a situation from the start, a fighter needs the full attention of his trainer during a pre-fight training camp. Whoever his new trainer is I hope he convinces Amir that he’s a boxer and goes back to the type of performance he used to win the title from Kotelnik.Posted September 15, 2012 3:35 pm
The problem with Khan is he’s not disciplined enough to stick to the game plan. He abandons the plan no sooner than he enters the ring. He has to learn to LISTEN and not let his emotions get the better of him inside the squared circle. Once he learns to have trust in what his corner is telling him, he’ll have success. He has the skills and motivation to be special, now, all he needs is discipline and trust. If he learns this, the sky’s the limit.Posted September 15, 2012 2:33 pm
Ward’s trainer can’t teach Khan to take a punch.Posted September 15, 2012 1:45 pm
It doesn’t matter what trainer. He Khan’t take a a punch on the head area, Period.Posted September 15, 2012 12:49 pm
Khan made the right choice. Roach wasnt for himPosted September 15, 2012 12:48 pm
Titanium implants in Khan’s fragile chin will do best for him than a new trainer – any trainer.Posted September 15, 2012 12:30 pm

Khan will just blame Hunter next and move on to someone else to blame. It’s never his fault. Go figure… even in a sport where you are alone in the ring this guy can’t take the responsibility for his actions in the ring. It’s always someone else fault. Cry me a river. Grow some stones Khan… suck it up… and do what you do best… fight. Stop the press releases and talking garbage. Just fight.Posted September 15, 2012 12:12 pm
why does he gotta blame roach for his fragile chin? not trying to brag but i knew kahn wouldnt go far in boxing after all he never took a shot at redemption by rematching prescottPosted September 15, 2012 12:02 pm
Congradulations to Khan for dumping “No Approach Roach.” Freddie never had a game plan and his fighters are losing titles rapidly. Hunter is an OUTSTANDING candidate to round out Khan’s pure boxing game. Andre Ward can also give Amir plenty of tips on clinching, infighting, inside defense, and focusing on scoring — and avoiding getting smashed with big shots. Hunter and Ward both know scoring early KO’s isn’t necessary but a lot of young fighters are addicted to risk because of the adrenaline rush. SOG can also give Khan plenty of fundamentals on the Christian Faith if Amir ever gets curious about Christianity …. The first step in overcoming a serious problem is the realization that you have one — and after several years of absorbng bombing shots that blew him into next week, Khan finally said, “Something’s wrong here.”Posted September 15, 2012 11:51 am
The difference here is Khan won’t have to follow Ward to the Philippines nor will Hunter be flying off to Mexico.Posted September 15, 2012 11:38 am
He’ll have to face a puncher eventually otherwise he’ll just be ridiculed. Virgil Hunter is a smart choice though he’ll improve Khan’s defense and inside work. One thing Khan should really do is get rid of that silly entourage who hang around him telling him that he’s the P4P best.Posted September 15, 2012 11:35 am
one thing virgil well have khan improve on is his inside fightingPosted September 15, 2012 11:31 am
not going to change that china chin.Posted September 15, 2012 11:16 am
Roach is an over-hyped trainer who happenned to get lucky and have a few very good fighters land in his lap.. any other top trainer would’ve had the same results if not better with Paquiao…Posted September 15, 2012 11:00 am

This is a great move by Khan I have always been a big fan of his . I really like Hungter after hearing him talk in a interview after the Dawson fight. Now I see why Ward is such a great fighter Hunter is a very smart trainer and Ward is a very smart fighter what a team. Khan’s only problem is he does not take big shots well this will not go away maybe Hunter can teach him to see the punches coming before they land this will help.Posted September 15, 2012 10:58 am
That doesn’t make sense, the whole reason he wanted to move on from Roach is because he wanted to have undivided attention from his coach, he’s having a laugh if he thinks he’ll get that from this guy……………Posted September 15, 2012 10:58 am
Khan better take Freddie’s advice and not fight any opponent who can punch, or he could take my advice and retire.Posted September 15, 2012 10:44 am
