Good point made by GOLD why Mayweather didn’t fight Paul Williams. But Paul Williams did have a big name and he did call out Mayweather, but Roger and Floyd Sr. did not want Floyd near a fighter like Paul Williams, someone who was talk Southpaw and throws over a 100 punches a round. Floyd would have lost for sure, No doubt about it. Plus no one knew who Sergio Martinez was until he fought Paul Williams. I feel bad for Paul, because he had bad management, instead of his management team keeping him at WW to become a mandatory for Pacquiao and Mayweather, they had him bouncing around in different weight class.Posted September 2, 2013 11:16 pm

Floyd only said that right after the fight. I bet if you ask him again he will say Augustus. Thats like saying Oscar told everybody Canelo isn’t ready for Floyd after the Mosley fight. And after fighting the mexican dude, forgot his name at the moment and Trout, Oscar is claiming that Canelo wins by KO before the 8th.Posted September 2, 2013 4:05 pm

That’s an interesting point Tark,
Canelo has actually fought and beaten the best common opponent of the two in Trout.Posted September 2, 2013 3:41 pm
Maybe Oscar was really Floyd’s best opponent… Maybe Miguel Cotto just SEEMED a lot tougher than Oscar because of the age difference.
Floyd was a fresh 30 when he fought Oscar… 35 when he fought Cotto.Posted September 2, 2013 3:33 pm
YES. The Cinnamon Kid’s resume isn’t nearly as impressive as Floyd’s.
But who fought the best fighter???
Floyd’s best opponent, by his own admission, was Miguel Cotto. Canelo’s best opponent, by his own admission was Austin Trout.
Trout gave Cotto a boxing and punching lesson, and beat him TFU.Posted September 2, 2013 3:27 pm
So now we are saying Floyd is gonna win because he lives in Vegas. Floyd has never needed help on the score cards. If Canelo knocks him down a couple of times, there is a good chance he will win. Canelo is gonna come in with the fans. Which pretty much puts Floyd at a disadvantage because every punch Canelo throws and misses the crowd will go wild and the judges will act like the punch landed.Posted September 2, 2013 3:21 pm

I agree with Tark’s post. Lack of sparring partners in the Canelo camp could be a big problem. Hopefully Mosley steps in and maybe Golovkin will help out. Bradley is sparring at the moment.Posted September 2, 2013 3:10 pm
Squared-Circle Real Talk (a.k.a. The Lion King of Beat Street)
If Canelo knocks FMJ down a couple times and scores a couple 10-8 rounds, he doesn’t need to take the majority of rounds to pull off the decision. But even then he’d likely get robbed on the cards because he’s a foreigner fighting in FMJ’s home country and hometown.
Shoot…FMJ practically owns half of Vegas, so Canelo almost has to stop him by KO in order to get the official win. This could turn out to be a highly controversial decision, in which the fans demand a rematch.
As I’ve said before, If Canelo is able to land the same type of shots that Cotto did… FMJ is going to take a seat on the canvas at least once — if not worse. Real talk.Posted September 2, 2013 3:05 pm
This pundit says.., “Canelo’s going to need a knockout”
NO he won’t… Canelo needs to win 8 rounds solidly. Saul can possibly do that. Let’s be realistic. This fight is Floyd’s house and Saul has to beat him up, or beat him convincingly. The Canelo-Trout fight was in a location that probably favored the foreigner—San Antonio TX.
Did Canelo beat Trout 118-109? ..NOPE.. He didn’t win by 9 points. And he didn’t dominate the early rounds as completely as the scorecards indicated.
Canelo hitting and hurting Trout, as well as dropping him, may be a sign that Saul is maturing power-wise as a fighter. Trout is a great fighter and very hard to hurt. Or it may be a sign that Trout just had a lousy night.
I do think Canelo is maturing. But I also think his management skimped on sparring partners for this fight. If Canelo is sending all his sparring partners home in a bag — they’re not half tough enough. And that is really poor management…
You need fabulous sparring partners when you’re preparing for the world’s best fighter.Posted September 2, 2013 2:38 pm

Floyd actually called Shane and Oscar out while he was down in the lower weight classes…specially Shane who was right there to be fought. Shane was the only guy he had a legit shot at getting in the ring but only if Shane would agree. But neither of them needed Floyd because Floyd wasn’t a big enough name. Floyd needed them.
Shane went after Oscar and Floyd was left behind. Floyd would need more years to build his name up. And I think this was a big part of the problem Floyd had with Arum: His name wasn’t being built up quick enough so he bought out his contract and left. And in doing so, his Name grew and so did his bank account.
Floyd beat Oscar. Oscar made it look competitive because of the volume of punches he was throwing but he wasn’t landing cleanly for Points. Floyd was more effective. That’s what boxing scoring is about.
Floyd just didn’t kick his ass like he thinks he did. He left it close in the eyes of the public and should have been able to do a lot more.
Again, another Arum fighter. That fight was a future fight for Arum to put together while he had both of them under his promotion. But when Floyd left, so did the deal. They didn’t think Cotto was ready at the time either so that fight was pushed back.
Notice when Cotto left Arum he ended up signing to fight Floyd right away and for the biggest payday of his career?
Floyd only avoided one fight that he could have made and that was Paul Williams. The only reasonable argument to be made about that fight not going through is that Paul wasn’t a big enough NAME to garner the risk vs. reward. But hey, fans just want to see the best fight the best and I was for that fight. It should have happened.Posted September 2, 2013 11:59 am
I do think people overlook some things like Age can be a factor, where the fighters are at mentally in their careers, how their training camp went, and fighters can be upset by a lesser talented fighter just because it’s a damn fight and anything can happen. You can have an “off day.” You can make a mistake and have it countered by a nice shot to the chin or liver and it’s over. Anything can happen in a fight so nothing is a given.
EASY FIGHT is b.s. Nothing is easy in a damn fight even when you are prepared. If it was all easy, you wouldn’t bother to train. But you do train and that is why it is “easier%Posted September 2, 2013 11:51 am
Tarver fought a deflated Roy Jones jr.
Douglas fought a Tyson that didn’t train while Douglas was trained. So again, horrible comparison.
Spinks beat an Ali that was older, past his prime, and didn’t take “little Spinks” seriously as Dundee said. Ali took it seriously in the rematch.
HOWEVER, “IF” Floyd’s 36 years of age does catch up to him, “IF” Floyd isn’t taking Canelo seriously, “IF” Floyd has blown up in Muscle weight by 15 pounds and then decides to quickly shed it without the help of an expert nutritionist and S&C….YES, FLoyd will end up like Roy, like Muhammad, like Mike.
Overall, “IF” you are saying you can’t underestimate your opponent, you must be trained, and don’t overlook the age factor, mental factor of becoming complacent, etc…. and upsets happen…YES, you are correct.Posted September 2, 2013 11:46 am

Let me ask you this… What did Antonio Tarver, and Glen Johnson bring to the table with the Great Roy Jones jr?? Or how bout a 42 to 1 underdog in James “Buster” Douglas who Dominated “The Badest man on the Planet”?? Or, how bout a 7 fight pro Leon Spinks easily beating “the greatest of all time” Muhamed Ali?? All those guys were saying the same BS Floyd is saying, ” I can’t be beat” I’m the best ever, ” this guy hasn’t fought anyone” Bla, Bla, Bla… All the greats, Ali, Leonard, Robinson, Tyson, Leonard, Hagler, Hearns, They all got beat!! This kid is no joke he is going to beat Floyd like a snare drum ! Too big, quick, elusive, and S-M-A-R-T ! Is able to adjust to adjustments……………………And by the way anyone who thought the Trout fight was a draw- watch it again ! He was punished and he’ll admit it too. I’m not sure but I dont think Mayweather has fought a Bob Arum fighter since he left Bob Arum. The only fighter that was ducked was Paul Williams. Mosley had a tooth ache when call out by Mayweather, Margarito who was the most feared man in boxing only because Bob Arum said so. He was beaten by Paul Williams and got a gift decision over Clottey. That was Bob Arum Trying to get his fighter a big fight, just like at 140 lbs. when Cotto refused to fight Mayweather. Floyd fought Genaro Hernandez at 21 years of age. How is Hernandez a club fighter?
I guess you are not paying attention either Genaro Hernandez was the answer to who Mayweather had fought at 22. My point was by that age he had already lifted the title from Hernandez.
Mayweather and De La Hoya realized that they could not make the fights they wanted while being with Arum. De La Hoya was donned Chicken De La Hoya because of Arum trying to keep him unbeaten.Posted September 2, 2013 1:30 am

People have to realize that the supposed two best P4P fighters, Floyd and Manny, both traveled on similar waters but in different boats.
Pac picked and choosed carefully who he fought and WHEN he fought them. More so than Floyd did. Pac was just able to get bigger Name opponents on his resume but look at WHEN he fought them and what options he gave them Or took away from them when he fought them.
They both have done the same and they both are to blame for their fight not taking place.
But Pac is liked more and the liked opponent gets a pass more often than the hated.Posted September 2, 2013 12:05 am
He handpicked fights after moving up to 147. Below that he wanted the best.
Let me guess, he avoided Tszyu despite Tszyu even acknowledgin that Floyd wanted him. That, and they were both on two seperate networks and needed high ratings and more popularity for them to get together for a PPV fight.
Tszyu lost to Hatton, and Hatton took that place. Floyd wanted Hatton and Hatton declined TWICE to face Floyd so he moved up in weight. He didn’t avoid anyone.
At 147, he avoided Paul Williams.
Margarito, Cotto, and Pac, all Bob Arum fighters. With Bobby, he’ll want a big PPV cut and lower the salary of the fighters which is why Floyd bought out his contract and went on his own to make more money in one fight than his entire career with Bobby Arum.
Cotto left Arum, the fight was made with Floyd.Posted September 2, 2013 12:03 am

Mayweather will always begin his head games sooner or later. Canelo is not the guy you want to begin degrading or disrespecting because he’ll use that as fuel, which only motivates him quietly. Canelo is a killer inside, and the more Floyd runs his mouth, the more Canelo will be motivated. He’s too smart to lose his composure and try and go out reckless. Mayweather has good skills, and he’s got better physchological weapons, but against Canelo they won’t work. Canelo doesn’t understand English very well to begin with, so he might not even understand. I’m sure his camp will give an even clearer translation. Floyd just might be in for a big surprise September 14th.Posted September 1, 2013 6:42 pm
