I think WK is really gonna drop the hammer on Povetkin because of the last fight they were supposed to have scheduled and he didn’t even show up for the Presser. Remember the cardboard cut out. That was alot of money waisted for a no show and finally no fight.Posted July 4, 2013 10:47 am

Roach’s training sessions will consist of telling Povetkin that Wlad has confidence problems and can’t take a punch…..then when Wlad KOs Povetkin, Roach will turn on his fighter and say they didn’t listen and execute the plan. Roach EVERY time criticizes Wlad when he trained him briefly 13 yrs ago. So sick of Freddie.Posted July 3, 2013 5:14 pm

Alexander Povetkin FINALY challange the heavyweight champion of the world Wladimir Klitschko, after over 4 years of mandatory obligation run. I have been BIG TIME dissapointed in Povetkin for the last 2 1/2 years for not fighting any thretning major heavyweights and again avoided to fight Wladimir. Sure the Marco Huck fight was good but Huck fought better and he is a smaller cruiserweight fighter and Povetkin escaped with a victory there, I had Huck winning but that is not the point and I don’t care much for that fight any way. Povetkin was interesting in the Athens Olympic Games 2004 when he dominated himself to a gold in super heavyweight along with Andre Ward’s gold at light heavyweight. Povetkin was interesting to follow from his pro start up to 2009, then it was starting to fall and now I just don’t fully respect him as a quality heavyweight fighter until he is there in the ring to fight Wladimir Klitschko becouse he made me so dissapointed to run for such a long time. A true heavyweight contender faces the challanges and even if he don’t win the fight, a great contender learns and adapts to become a better and hungrier fighter. James Braddock, Jersey Joe Wallcott, Frank Bruno and so many other heavyweight champions did not become champions until after several tries but modern heavyweights just lack hearth and just wan’t to take an uninteresting short cut to reach the goal and thats not a GREAT heavyweight contender. Earnie Shavers, Ron Lyle, Jameel McCline, Andrew Golota, Gerry Cooney, Donovan Ruddock etc are all rememberd as hungry heavyweight contenders and people can call them champs becouse they fought like champions and that made them to BIG contenders even if non of them never became world heavyweight champion. I truly hope this fight will NOT fall threw again. This time I want to see Povetkin man up and face the champ.Posted July 3, 2013 3:58 pm

I think Povetkins camp just sealed their own fate, with Freddy Roach guiding him against Klitschko Povetkin WILL get knocked out.Freddy may be a very nice person, but, let’s be honest, he really is over rated as a boxing trainer , his whole story is based on Manny Pacqiuo, and Manny was just a super talent, but it’s over now, what about the other fighters in his camp? are there anymore household names? I don’t think so. This was not meant as an insult Freddy, just trying to be honest.Posted July 3, 2013 2:09 pm

Ali’s technical problems were only exposed when he fought a good jabber or left hooker.. Cooper and Frazier socked Ali with scores of left hooks and Norton, Young, and Holmes popped him with 100’s of jabs. If a heavyweight never fights anyone of any size, speed, strength, or skills he can look pretty good.
Wladimir had myriad technical problems before he hooked up with Manny Steward. His record was 41-2 but he wanted perfection… His problems weren’t apparent to less skilled trainers—as Wladimir rarely fought anyone with the combined style, size, skill-set, and firepower to expose them.
One problem was Wlad’s stance.. It was too wide… his feet were wrong… his footwork was clunky… his torso was off kilter… he put too much strength on his jab and straight right… he didn’t slip punches correctly…
Wlad couldn’t clinch with any finesse.. His clinching skills were similar to Amir Khan’s.. Steward said, “You look like a cowboy wrestling a steer.”
For the last 5 years Wladimir’s been a finished product—although he still tries to get better with every fight. The 3 heavyweights who beat him wouldn’t have a prayer today.
A lot of trainers say, “You don’t want to mess with somebody’s style.” That makes it easier for the trainer doesn’t it??? But they do mess with somebody’s style if a southpaw walks into the gym. They convert them to orthodox. That way they don’t have to learn how to train southpaws.Posted July 3, 2013 12:48 pm
Foreman couldn’t beat either Klitschko in a million years.. George couldn’t slip jabs at all.. He couldn’t handle Ali or Young’s semi-slick jabs.. He’d be a sitting duck for the K Bros brilliant jabs.
Lewis got outjabbed by Vitali.. With his reach and height Lewis never needed to slip a lot of jabs.. Michael Grant was 6’8″ … but his jab was so slow and clunky Tomasz Adamek outjabbed him.. 40-year-old Vitali jabbed Adamek to death every single round.
While Vitali spent 4 years rehabbing his leg injuries Wladimir started showing VK all the jabbing tricks he was learning from Steward.. Vitali got all excited … and he was more anxious then ever to mount a comeback.Posted July 3, 2013 12:47 pm
Lewis and big george in his prime beats w. Klitschko thats the only ones who beats him. Vitili klitschko was kinda green when he fought lewis , compair klitschko s oppnents to lewis oppnents at the time of their fight, also vitili took the fight on short notice aswell. If vitili had 2 more tuff fights prior to a lewis rematch and had proper tranning for lewis, the fight was 50/50. Either guy could have won. Even match. Vitili was was hungry and wanted to beat lewis, with thst said I belive klitschko would have got the win, but a brutal fight for both big men, nlt a easy fight for vitili, would be very close.Posted July 3, 2013 11:16 am

Povetkin needs to shatter Wlads jab with his chin or other parts of his face. Then destroy the right cross with his orbital bone and deflect the left hook with his temple. If this works, get inside and destroy Wlad :-)Posted July 3, 2013 5:56 am
Oh sheeeet its in Russia? I have a feeling something fishy is going to happenPosted July 3, 2013 2:46 am
Andrzej Wawrzyk might not be a mike Tyson but it was badly insulting to say he has no power skill or experience… His not some of those worst 4 round starting boxers. He moved high enouth the ladder to have a match as the challenger against a world title holder.Lets not forget klitschko lost clearly 3 times all by a fact from ko’s and not by opinions from some popularity contests from the judges .Once to someone who was not even a challenger to a world title , once to a world title challenger who became champion and lost in his next match and never got back at that stage. And another time to a world champion lamon Brewster who was a champion once for a short time defending a couple times.Klitschko is also the most technical fighter I have ever seen.He almost always just throws jabs and sometimes a few right crosses. Its rare he would try hooks and uppercuts is like a miracle if he ever tries them.Thats one advantage fighters against him might have as that makes him a little predictable and people have less attacks to worry that much.Since klitschko is so technical there is less chance for a knockout making it another huge factor with our fragile and horrible boxing system. We all saw what happened with roy jones jr when he did not win the gold medal in the Olympics and manny pacquiao when he lost to timothy Bradley. Not only did the judges made some mistakes ( everybody makes mistakes even very big ones or very stupid ones.I don’t hate that part that much) but the worste part that makes me sick is that those idiots in charge REFUSED to modify the results despite showing that YES THERE WAS A HUGE MISTAKE AND THAT THE OTHER FIGHTER CLEARLY WON…
Hopefully the judges will be smart and fair.Hopefully there will be a fair referee who gives a full opportunity to fighters to continue when they go down and stand up.Povetkin has a good chance in winning as one of the strongest challengers there for klitschko as of now. However im going for wladimir UD in 12 rounds I feel he like has an advantage in every department except that he is more predictable with his choice of attacks.
chavez , pacquiao and khan all lost to a stronger fighter at the time they lost.A good trainer is a good tool but in the end of the day its the fighter who is fighting.theory and strategy is very important but theres much more than this.Besides if a trainer trains a fighter to prepare in practice on what to do vs a certain style and his opponent suddenly changes to something else during the fight then the blueprint plans have changed and adapting to something else wont be the most easy thing. The more a fighter has to rely on his trainer the less his complete and the more trouble he will have.Pretty sure there woulnt be much difference in mike Tyson’s performances whenever he had the best trainer or not.Im sure roach is the best trainer out there now that stewart has passed away. There can only be one winner and since those guys lost we cant blame roach that fast for the result. If that was the way to judge him he would be called the worst trainer in the world had he trained fighters who went against mike Tyson during his early 20s.Posted July 3, 2013 2:08 am
Nameless states “The only HW on the planet capable of crushing WK is Wilder because he has the size and the power but unfortunately he lacks the experience at this point.” OH REALLY?
27 or so fights? When does he have enough experience? At any point he could have stepped up to a better level of opponents to gain it. Given who he has fought I find it incredible that you could make such a statement.
In fact, the only thing that can be credibly said about you and your posts are that you are an idiot who know NOTHING about boxing.
Wilder indeed! What a clown!Posted July 3, 2013 2:02 am

Wlad will be to fast, powerful, and his jab will control the distance. Yes I have seen Wlad clinch, but guess who also clinches, MauhamidALI. Povetkin had trouble with EddieChampers until EddieChampers ran out of gas in the later rounds. Then Povetkin outhustled Champers. While Wlad one every minute and every second his fight with Eddied Champers. He then Koed champers in espn highlight reel fashion in the 12thPosted July 3, 2013 1:39 am

Squared-Circle Real Talk (a.k.a. The Lion King of Beat Street)
TARK is on Beat Street with those last two posts.
I would much rather have Roach in my corner than Teddy Atlas. Even though there are some guys saying some negative things about Roach, he’s still one of the best trainers in the world — especially now since Steward is gone. RIP.
You many not like him or his approach, but his resume is miles deep with training world-class fighters. You think Chavez Sr. would allow his pride and joy, Jr., to be trained by Roach if he doesn’t think Freddy is one of the very best in the business?
Most people can barely even function with a serious, debilitating disease like Parkinson’s. Roach fights through it like a warrior and is in the gym training guys everyday. He has dedicated 100% of his entire life to his craft and fighters — not to a family and kids of his own. And by all accounts is a genuinely nice guy and caring person. A gem in the rough in a sport full of shady characters, thugs and ruthless, greedy businessmen.
IMO, La Cucaracha should be respected and celebrated as a major asset to the sport — like Manny was and is. Not trying to start arguments, this is just my humble opinion.Posted July 3, 2013 12:33 am
To beat wlad you need size (at least 6’6) power and skill. Povetkin does not have the size or power. He is very skilled but will not get past the jab.Posted July 3, 2013 12:16 am
Correctamundo, thanks for the info regarding Atlas.Posted July 2, 2013 11:51 pm
Russia has produced some clever crooks. It’s not a super idea for a Ukrainian to fight a Russian in Russia. There’s an historic boxing rivalry between the 2 nations and the Heavyweight Championship is a prized possession—worth many millions.. I would not take the lodging they set up for me, “We’ll find our own hotel, thank you”
I would not eat in restaurants they recommended or specially provided.. I would take my own bedding and an air monitor.. I would ship in my own meals flash frozen.. I know that Vitali is a diligent inspector of wrappings and gloves when his brother is fighting. Roach you don’t have to worry about.. They probably hired him to curry favor with America in case an American judge or referee is in the mix.. It’s whoever else is in Povetkin’s corner you have to worry about.
I wouldn’t worry too much about time zone acclamation. I would arrive a week ahead of time instead of 3 weeks unless there’s an agreement you have to arrive earlier. I would be on guard for trickery the whole time.Posted July 2, 2013 11:45 pm

WAIT a minute. I get the idiot trainer of the day confused. It was ATLAS that trained Povetkin earlier right? Wonder why I get those two confused. Well, Roach is the 2nd worst possibility for Povetkin, but not the worst.Posted July 2, 2013 11:27 pm
this is terrible, terrible news. Roach was the one who convinced him to duck Klitschko for so long in the first place, then backstabbed him after the Huck fight. If there wasn’t a guarantee that Povetkin would lose already, this seals the deal. Povetkin needed some unknown mysterious Russian to train him and convince him he had a shot due to secret powers the trainer could give him. A Svengali type. Roach won’t make him believe in anything. And afterwards Roach will say Povetkin didn’t have the heart or the talent and didn’t follow Roach’s game plan.Posted July 2, 2013 11:23 pm

Wlad has very little inside Fighting SKILLS and a bunch of guys would beat him IF he abandoned his clinch at ALL costs when they get inside strategy…Vitali on the other hand can defeat most guys with no clinching needed. Vitali is a freak of nature. He’s a Heavyweight who throws 1000 punches. That’s called pressuring your opponent.Posted July 2, 2013 9:13 pm
poor povetkin,u ready to go night! night!..yezzir!Posted July 2, 2013 9:10 pm
the problem guys dont know how to fight wlad… smaler fighter should fight a bit more square /crouched go down then up to hit wlad..make wlad punch down as low as possible which will leave him vulnerable to overhand right /left ala tyson style…Posted July 2, 2013 9:10 pm
Prof Konje-Atlas walked away from Povetkin because he went back on his word on training in the US. He wants Atlas to come over there and I guess he doesn’t want to DO it because it messes with his ESPN job. ESPN provides more job security than being Povetkin’s trainer SO its a smart move.Posted July 2, 2013 9:09 pm
Im actually one that for a long time thought that povetikin has the style to beat wlad if he isnt intimidated off the start… im taking povetkin by upset….betchaPosted July 2, 2013 9:08 pm
HIDALGO, inside or outside no heavy has the combination of size and boxing skills to defeat the Klitschkos. i wouldn’t favor the most offensively-gifted fighters in the history of the sport to defeat these versions of Klitschkos. however, prime Lewis, Holmes, Ali, i do favor to execute a multi-dimensional attack that would neutralize the Klitschkos size advantages, pile up points, and gradually whittle away at their poise and mental fortitude. unfortunately for Povetkin, Roach is notorious for NOT being able to instill these skills or dimensions into the fight-game of his charges. Povetkin’s in for a short and brutal night.Posted July 2, 2013 8:48 pm
““In the past, Roach has talked about Wladimir being vulnerable to pressure from his opponents. That’s likely going to be Roach’s number #1″ and only strategy…” That’s probably true te tumbo, seeing as how Wlad has six inches more reach, is four inches taller. Povetkin will have to get inside to do any damage and it’s might hard getting past Wlad’s jab.Posted July 2, 2013 8:22 pm
“In the past, Roach has talked about Wladimir being vulnerable to pressure from his opponents. That’s likely going to be Roach’s number #1″ and only strategy. along with between-round advice such as “you’ve gotta knock’im out son. you need to put him on his ass” or some variation thereof. the only expertise that Roach has ever demonstrated is preparing his fighters for 12 rounds of give-and-take action. however, in this case, his predictable strategy figures to shave at least 7 rounds off of Povetkin’s anticipated misery.Posted July 2, 2013 8:14 pm
