For 12 rounds last December, Peterson and Khan battled it out in one of the most compelling championship bouts of 2011. When it was over, controversy raged over the officiating and the final judges’ verdict, but in the end Peterson won a split decision capturing Khan’s world championship belts. It was a classic battle of contrasting styles with Peterson brawling and banging while Khan used his lightning quick speed and boxing ability. The deduction of two points from Khan by the referee for a seldom-called foul (pushing) proved to be the difference in the outcome of the close fight, leading to questions being raised as to who actually deserved to win the decision. Khan immediately filed multiple protests following the fight, much to the ire of Peterson who felt Khan’s actions tainted his victory and were an act of disrespect. On May 19, the fighters will have the opportunity to settle the score on neutral ground in Las Vegas.

Peterson vs. Khan II, a 12-round Unified Super Lightweight World Title Fight for Peterson’s WBA World Super Championship and IBF World Championship taking place Saturday, May 19 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nev., is presented by Golden Boy Promotions in association with Khan Promotions and Headbangers Promotions and sponsored by Corona and AT&T. The fight will be telecast live on HBO World Championship Boxing at 10:45 p.m. ET/7:45 p.m. PT in the United States and live on Sky in the United Kingdom.

FANTASY SPRINGS ANNOUNCES FORMER UNDISPUTED HEAVYWEIGHT WORLD CHAMPION JAMES ‘BUSTER’ DOUGLAS AS VIP AT FRIDAY, MARCH 16

March 7, 2012 – INDIO, CA – Former Undisputed Heavyweight World Champion James ‘Buster’ Douglas will greet fans at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino as part of the March 16th Showtime televised ShoBox event featuring Omar Figueroa Jr. and Ramon Ayala and Coachella’s own Randy Caballero vs. Jose Luis Araiza.

Douglas is best known for his shocking knock-out of previously undefeated Heavyweight World Champion Mike Tyson on February 11, 1990 in Tokyo, Japan. At the time, Tyson was considered to be the best fighter in the world and one of the most feared heavyweight champions in history as a result of his utter domination of the division. Douglas held the title for eight months, losing on October 25, 1990 to Evander Holyfield.

Since retiring from boxing, Douglas has become a spokesperson of sorts for the prevention and treatment of diabetes, a disease to which he nearly lost his life in 1994. He strives to help others stay positive in their fight with the disease and shares his story of survival and his favorite meals in a cookbook called Buster’s Backyard Bar-B-Q Knockout Diabetes Diet. He says about life, “You’ve just got to live it full of gusto. Be positive; be positive, that’s my philosophy.”

Come meet Douglas at the ShoBox doubleheader, which is presented by Golden Boy Promotions and sponsored by Corona, DeWalt Tools and AT&T. It will be televised live on ShoBox: The New Generation at 11:00 p.m. ET/PT (delayed on the West Coast) on SHOWTIME®.

Tickets, priced at $25, $35 and $45, are available for purchase at the Fantasy Springs Box Office, by calling (800) 827-2946 or online at www.fantasyspringsresort.com. Doors at Fantasy Springs will open at 6:00 p.m. PT on fight night and the first bell rings at 6:30 p.m. PT.

War at Woodland Hills Returns with
“Saturday Boxing Fever” 70s Show

Boxing And Disco on Saturday, March 31, 2012
At Warner Center Marriott

Woodland Hills, California (March 6, 2012) – In the early 1970s, professional boxing in Woodland Hills, California was a regular occurrence when legendary Hall of Fame Promoter “Dandy” Don Fraser hosted a weekly show at the historic Valley Music Theater on Ventura Boulevard. On Saturday, March 31, 2012, the spirit of the 70s will be welcomed back as the only regular pro boxing show in the San Fernando Valley returns to the Warner Center Marriott with “SATURDAY BOXING FEVER,” a special 70s themed installment of Art of Boxing and Bash Boxing’s “War at Woodland Hills” boxing series.

Started in 2007 by former NABO Super Flyweight Champion Kahren Harutyunyan, who later associated with boxing attorney and manager, Steve Bash, the “War at Woodland Hills” boxing series is now in its sixth year. Boxing fans who have grown accustomed to the exciting live action and intimate setting of the Warner Center Marriott Grand Ballroom are encouraged to bring their favorite bell bottoms and disco shoes for a fun night of professional boxing and 70s entertainment on March 31.

Highlighting “Saturday Boxing Fever” will be the returns of Boxing360’s former National Amateur Champion and current undefeated pro Donyil Livingston, new local boxing phenomenon Zachary “Kid Yamaka” Wohlman, undefeated prospects from the famed Robert Garcia Boxing Academy in Oxnard, Herbert Acevedo and Erik Ruiz, and highly regarded female boxer Celine Roman.

Livingston (8-0-1, 4KOs), from Palmdale, California, won a close split decision against tough veteran Michael Walker (19-11, 12KOs) in his last appearance at the Warner Center Marriott. Wohlman, (2-0), put on a boxing clinic against Japanese import Tatsuro Irie (0-2), while pleasing his adoring fans that repeatedly chanted “YA-MA-KA, YA-MA-KA” (referencing the phonetic spelling of Wohlman’s nickname given to him by his trainer Freddie Roach because of his Jewish heritage). Oxnard’s Herbert Acevedo (6-0, 3KOs) and Erik Ruiz (4-0, 2 KOs) have both performed brilliant in Woodland Hills and hope to add to their unblemished professional records on March 31st. Also returning will be undefeated female boxer Celine Roman (2-0), who has called Woodland Hills home with all of her professional fights taking place in the Warner Center Marriott. Roman beat previously undefeated boxer Claudia Amaro in her last bout.

Some new faces from the best gyms and boxing clubs in Southern California are also scheduled to box on March 31st, including Espinoza Boxing Club’s Daniel Roman (2-1), Robert Garcia Boxing Academy’s Carlos Rodriguez (2-0) and Neil Arellano (pro debut), and a trio of boxers from Freddie Roach’s Wildcard Boxing Club in Tyrell “Hollywood” Hendrix (7-1-2), Javier Albonica (2-1), and female boxer Holly “Lil Bear” Lawson (1-1).

“It doesn’t feel like it but Kahren Harutyunyan and I have now worked together on these shows for over five years,” commented Bash Boxing’s Steve Bash. “Our fans want to see good fights first and foremost and they have been treated to some of the most competitive and exciting fights that can ever come out of a ballroom show. And we love adding the fun acts, contests, and themes that keep fans entertained in between the fights as well. This winning combination is why we have managed to sell out nearly every show and why “SATURDAY BOXING FEVER” on March 31st will be our best show to date.”

Tickets to SATURDAY BOXING FEVER, a special 70s version of WAR AT WOODLAND HILLS, can be purchased online by going to www.bashboxing.com or by calling (626) 388-8888. SATURDAY BOXING FEVER takes place on Saturday, March 31, 2011 at the Warner Center Marriott Grand Ballroom in Woodland Hills. Doors Open at 7:00 pm, First Bout at 7:30 pm sharp.

SATURDAY BOXING FEVER is presented by Art Of Boxing Promotions in association with Bash Boxing, Boxing360, and the Espinoza Boxing Club and is sponsored by Pitbull Energy Drink and Energy Bar, Zeke’s Bail Bonds, Frog Environmental, Putasos Fight Gear, Hollywood Law Center, and Futurola The Dutch Rolling Company.

All bouts are subject to change.
