Exciting Slugger Breidis Prescott To Make Quick Return, Will Fight Countryman Joel Cassiani Tomorrow Night In Colombia

By James Slater: Never in a bad fight, Colombian banger Breidis Prescott – last seen being stopped in the final round of a fight he was winning comfortably against unbeaten Mike Alvarado – will make a quick return to the ring. A mere two months after his heartbreaking 10th-round stoppage loss at the hands of Alvarado, and just four months after his debatable points loss to Paul McCloskey, Prescott, 24-4(19) will take a tune-up in his homeland tomorrow night.

The 28-year-old who is of course most famous for knocking Amir Khan flat inside a single minute back in September of 2008, will face countryman Joel Cassiani in Puerto, Colombia. Prescott, despite his run of recent bad luck, should have no trouble taking care of the 6-9-1(3) Cassiani. Loser of his last four, two by stoppage, Cassiani is really a super-featherweight. Against the powerful fists of Prescott, who is strong at the 140-pound weight class, Cassiani looks to be totally doomed.

Prescott clearly wants to restore some lost confidence by taking a guy out (which he will surely do tomorrow, perhaps in the opening round), and the man known as “Khanqueror” is also hopeful he will land himself at least one more big fight. Amir Khan seems as out of reach as ever right now (what with Khan’s main goal being a return with Lamont Peterson, and if he can’t get that, a planned move up to 147 looks likely), but Prescott has powerful promoters and this, combined with his fan-friendly style, makes it likely he will succeed in topping the bill in at least one more major fight before too long.

Prescott will probably enjoy fighting at home tomorrow; the last time he boxed in his native Colombia was back in December of 2007. On that occasion Prescott scored an easy-looking 1st-round KO. I think history will repeat itself tomorrow evening.
