Sunshine set to change to Thunderstorms

The Melbourne suburb known as Sunshine might be aptly named, but come December 2nd, it’s thunderstorms predicted when Western Showcase III brings professional boxing to town and the world class boxers engaged are set to storm!

Team Ellis Promotions are proud to present – Western Showcase III and have brought together a fantastic ensemble of world class talent to the show.

Led by the Top 15 WBO world rated – Omari Kimweri who sights 10 wins to his resume, this show lacks nothing for quality when you have both Australia’s hardest P4P puncher and excitement machine – Ranee ‘KO Kid’ Ganoy (31 wins with 28 by KO!) set to strut his stuff, but also the former brilliant amateur and now Australia’s hottest professional prospect boasting an undefeated 12 wins with 9 of those by KO to his name – Paul ‘Showtime’ Fleming also set to show his wares for the first time live to a Melbourne audience.

Menacing heavyweight Andre ‘The Giant’ Meunier will make his presence fight, as will the comebacking ‘Smasher’ Jay Sims.

Rounding out the card is local boy Ashley McDermott in an all-action six-round contest scheduled at welterweight, and as at time of going to release, a number of high-profile appearances are also in the works.

Promoter Jake Ellis, son of the legendary IBF Super-Featherweight champion Lester Ellis is right behind ensuring Western Showcase III is a tremendous success not only for the boxers, but most importantly the fans who he’s encouraging to really get behind professional boxing at the grass roots level, providing opportunities for these world class talents to perform in front of great, appreciative crowds, but improve their records and rankings and position them for higher stage opportunities.

Kimweri with his Top 15 world ranking is knocking on the door of a world-title shot and this fight is the perfect way to stay sharp and be ready to capitalise when it presents.

Ganoy, the big punching Filipino boxer who know proudly calls Australia home is on his 2nd trip down to Melbourne after thrilling the Sunshine crowd back in July with a knockout victory. The ‘KO Kid’ boasts a KO victory over the former IBF Super-Featherweight champion and Melbourne identity Robbie ‘Bomber’ Peden and is being seriously looked at by two of the USA’s leading promotional outfits for USA opportunities early in 2012 and this fight is the perfect way continuation of his preparation for that.

Paul ‘Showtime’ Fleming is the hottest prospect in Australian boxing and is signed to the massive USA promotional firm – Top Rank. Top Rank also promote the likes of Manny Pacquiao, Miguel Cotto, Nonito Donaire, Kelly Pavlik and the like so it’s a real sign of their belief in his ability and potential that they have signed him to exclusive terms. Team Ellis are proud to support Top Rank with the development of Paul and have him perform on Western Showcase III.

With the calibre of talent on show with Western Showcase III, it’s young Jake Ellis the promoter who has taken on board the teachings of his father the world-champion Lester when putting this card together –

“My Dad always strongly believed that the only way boxing will grow boxing and generate genuine interest in this country is if domestic promoters get down to the basics and put on good fights, with genuine fighters who are hungry and aiming for big things. He would always say to me that in his day, there was no fancy cameras and lights it was just two blokes in the ring that wanted to be there.”

“Dad went on to say, that this was the key and the crowds recognise the willingness of fighters who really want to be there and that’s how the following will come. I love promoting, don’t get me wrong, it’s hard work, but I want my shows and the boxers who perform on it to have a real good following and that can only lead to further success for Australian boxing.”

“I certainly hope I’ve achieved Dad’s thoughts with this show and I’m proud to have each fighter on as their hunger is unquestioned and they all want to fight for the crowd and perform.”

“Can I also please thank my sponsors, their support really goes a long way to helping put these shows together and attract the quality fighters we’ve signed to the card so again, big thanks from all at Team Ellis Promotions.” (NB: Sponsors include – Lonsdale / Cafco Services / Civil Pty Ltd / Platinum Earth / Red Wine Shop / M.A.R.C / Moving Pictures Tattoo)

It’s fair to say that Lester’s words have had the telling effect as Jake has really embraced the philosophies and the fans who get to the Sunshine Roller Skating Centre on December 2nd for Western Showcase III are in for a real treat of talent and a great night’s boxing action.
