TRUSCOTT’S NOT SHORT OF CONFIDENCE

PAUL TRUSCOTT isn’t short of confidence boasting that few British rivals can match his skills.

The silky Middlesbrough fighter believes he’ll back up the bragging when he meets Dezzie Higginson over eight rounds at Oldham Leisure Centre on Saturday night (Nov 12th).

He says: “I believe I am the best pure boxer in the country at featherweight, super-featherweight or lightweight.

“I have just got to stick to what I am best at. Once I am in a boxing ring I am at home.”

Truscott, 25, has been due to challenge British super-featherweight champion Gary Buckland later this month, but the Welshman has pulled out due to injury.

But Truscott who has won 17 of his 19 fights won’t have it all his own way against Higginson who narrowly lost to Andy Murray back in April.

Blackburn’s Higginson boasts a 13-9-1 record and Truscott’s new promoter Ricky Hatton said: “This is an important fight for Paul.

“Dezzie is a dangerous opponent, far from a pushover, and in my opinion the winner should be right in line for a shot at Buckland.”

Truscott won the Commonnwealth featherweight title back in 2008 when he outpointed Osumanu Akaba, but lost in his first defence against John Simpson who also won their return.

In the bill topper of the show being televised live by Sky Sports, Manchester’s unbeaten Denton Vassell makes the second defence of his Commonwealth welterweight title against Aussie Samuel Colomban.

Other fights: Matty Askin v Roman Kracic, Kieran Farrell v Youssef Al Hamidi, Jazza Dickens v TBA, Adam Little v Billy Smith and Kieran Maher v TBA
