New York, NY – (11/1/2011) – Glen Johnson and Allan Green have been longtime friends and sparring partners, and most recently were opponents against one another in 2010, as part of the SHOWTIME Super Six World Boxing Classic. Now, the two will enter into hostile territory together this Saturday night when they travel to Quebec City to take on two of Canada’s favorite sons.
“The Road Warrior” Johnson (51-15-2, 35KO’s) is set to challenge international Boxing Federation (IBF) Super Middleweight Champion and arguably the number one fighter at that weight class, Lucian Bute (29-0, 24KO’s), in the feature bout of the evening on SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING card from the Pepsi Coliseum in Quebec City, Canada, live on SHOWTIME® (9 p.m. ET/PT, delayed on the West Coast). Fighting on the un-televised portion of the undercard will be Green (30-3, 21KO’s) taking on Sebastien Demers (31-4, 11KO’s) in a ten-round super middleweight showdown. The event is promoted by Interbox, DiBella Entertainment and Warriors Boxing.
Both fights are very significant, and crucial to the careers of both Johnson and Green. At 42-years-old, the former light heavyweight champion Johnson isn’t getting any younger, and is 4-4 in his last eight bouts, albeit the four defeats were close decision losses coming in world championship opportunities. A win over the pound-for-pound top-rated Bute could set Johnson up for a crack at the winner of the Super Six Tournament Finale that takes place on December 17, between Andre Ward and Carl Froch.
Green, after spending much of his career struggling to cut weight, has now made the decision to move back up to the light heavyweight division, where he hopes to position himself into a world title opportunity. Before he can do that though, he must first get past Demers.
AL BERNSTEIN CALLS BUTE-JOHNSON “TREAT FOR FANS”
When International Boxing Federation (IBF) Super Middleweight Champ Lucian Bute defends his crown against Road Warrior Glen Johnson on November 6, it could be an “instant classic,” according to Hall of Fame boxing announcer Al Bernstein.
Bernstein will be ringside call the fight on Showtime Championship Boxing, along with Steve Albert and Antonio Tarver. It’s a match he is anxious to announce, and part of the reason is Glen Johnson. “Johnson has not been in a bad fight since…well, maybe never,” Al said. He added “Glen makes fan friendly fights, and his last match with Carl Froch was outstanding. He has come down in weight to 168 at age 42-that’s almost unheard of, and he’s still performing at a very high level.”
Al says the Champion, Bute, has changed his identity in recent fights, and that too augers well for this match. Al said, “Some still think of Bute as a boxer-puncher, but now he has transformed himself into a boxer-PUNCHER. He has six straight title defenses by knockout. He is perhaps the best body puncher in boxing. He will not run from Johnson.”

“New Blood” Jonathan “Lil’ Thund’r” Arellano vs. Emmanuel Castro – this Friday
Orange, CA (November 1) – The weather forecast in southern California predicts a cloudy Friday night and the Thompson Boxing’s bout sheet predicts that there will also be Jonathan “Lil’ Thund’r” Arellano(10-0-1, 2 KO’s) raging in a stormy battle against Los Mochis’ featherweight Emmanuel Castro (2-1, 2 KO’s) in a 6 round battle.
Arellano, who was recently recognized by his hometown city of Ontario for his hard work and determination inside of the ring, had this to say about his upcoming battle, “I am ready to go against Castro. I want to keep busy and mix it up in the ring. Castro will keep me on my toes and he is a good scrapper. I don’t take any fight lightly and I like to keep improving my trade. Fight fans can expect a good battle.”
The Arellano-Castro bout is the co-main event to the 10-round super bantamweight NABF title main event of the evening between Efrain Esquivias and Fernando Beltran, Jr.
