Theophane signs with Hatton Promotions

BRITISH light-welterweight champion Ashley Theophane has signed a three-year promotional deal with Hatton Promotions. The Londoner becomes the fourth British title holder boxing under the Hatton banner joining Martin Murray (middleweight), Anthony Crolla (lightweight) and Gary Buckland (super-featherweight).

Theophane has mixed at the highest level and boasts an impressive record of 30 wins, 4 losses and one draw.

Hatton Promotions head Ricky Hatton is excited to have signed talented Theophane having once ruled the light-welterweight division globally.

Ricky said: “Ashley has a British title, but he has already proven himself as a world class boxer.

“He isn’t afraid of fighting away from home and proved that by beating DeMarcus Corley and Devlin Rodriguez in the United States.

“It only seems like last night that I was a world champion at light-welterweight, but here I am now promoting Britain’s next potential 140lb world title holder.

“Domestically there is nobody who comes close to Ashley and I hope he will be one of many Hatton Promotions boxers winning world titles in the next 12-18 months.”

Theophane, 31, is due to make the second defence of his domestic crown against Nigel Wright later this year.

He turned professional in June 2003 and captured the British title at Wembley Arena in February by outpointing Lenny Daws.

Theophane returned to the same venue in July and made a successful defence stopping Welshman Jason Cook in ten one-side rounds.

British Title Shot For Williams – Faces Norton In London, Oct 21st.

London – Tuesday, 27th September 2011 – Streatham’s Leon ‘Solid’ Williams has had a very good week or so, first he beats Battersea’s Nick ‘The Ox’ Okoth with a fifth round TKO on Sunday last week, then a few days later his manager, Johnny Eames, receives a call from Frank Warren Promotions’ match maker, Dean Powell, offering Williams a shot at Rob Norton’s British Cruiserweight title on the 21st October at York Hall in Bethnal Green, London.

Following a training session, under the watchful eyes of his co-trainer Barry Smith at the TRAD TKO Boxing Gym in Canning Town, Williams spoke briefly on the upcoming British title fight. “It’s a good move, it’s something I’ve wanted for a long time.

Every British boxer wants the British title and that’s what I want to do. I’ve got the shot now and I want to bring the belt back to South London.

I’ve had a couple of really good stoppage wins lately, thanks to Johnny Eames and Barry Smith, they’ve been training me well. We study the opponents thoroughly, then put the game plan together to shut them down in the ring to get another good win for myself and the TKO gym.

I think it could be a messy fight, Rob’s an awkward southpaw, but I’m still going to bring it to him. A fight’s a fight and I like to fight, so it’s ding ding and put it on him.

It’s absolutely brilliant, can’t wait, team solid all the way every day, yeah.”

Leon ‘Solid’ Williams versus Rob Norton for the British Cruiserweight Championship headlines the Frank Warren promoted event at York Hall, Bethnal Green, London on Friday the 21st October 2011.

Tickets, priced £40 (standard) and £60 (ringside) for Williams vs. Norton will be available shortly, either direct from Leon Williams – tickets will also be available at the TRAD TKO Boxing Gym, Gillian House, Stephenson Street, Canning Town, London E16 4SA and on-line at www.tkoboxoffice.com
