Wladimir Klitschko v David Haye: The power of the trainers

By Alex Kolawole: Preparation continues for unarguably one of the longest-awaited fights of the heavyweight division since since Vitali Klitschko and Lennox Lewis nine years ago between the WBA Heavyweight Champion David Haye and IBF/WBO Champion Wladimir Klitschko at the 57,000 capacity in Imtech arena at Hamburg, Germany.

Both managers will undoubtedly have drawn up their master plan for ring victory on July 2nd.

The mastermind behind David Haye’s WBA Heavyweight title, Adam Booth is not only the manager, trainer and promoter, but the skilled alchemist at the Hayemaker camp. Since the fight date was announced, the Dark Lord accepted the challenge of slaying the Ukrainian Klitschko brothers. His first victim is the younger of the dominant brothers, Wladimir, on his quest to bring the rest of the heavyweight alpha-belts under the Hayemaker promotion.

Adam Booth’s fighters are his instrument of his hunger for success and world domination. The Turkish-Cypriot manager has proved he means business this year, he was able to devise a cunning strategic plan to cause an upset in the fight between bitter childhood rivals Saint George Groves and James Degale at the 02 earlier this year as he guided Groves to a close points decision victory.

Despite the odds for victory being against the British fighter, Adam Booth believes he holds the solution to reign triumphant over Wladimir Klitschko. Haye, 30 has been working with Booth at a training camp in Miami on strategies to topple the Ukrainian champion.

Haye’s blistering speed combined with accurate punches delivered powerfully is part of his impressive arsenal. He has the ability to up his work load on his opponent when the opportunity arises, and ultimately taking the initiative in the fight.
This will be a factor in whether the Hayemaker will be successful. Booth has refused to reveal any of his fight strategies, but hinted it will send shockwaves through the Klitschko camp when it is in action. He claimed the job will be completed in the ring and fans should expect a completely different David Haye when he arrives on July 2nd.

In the other corner, the legendary Manny Steward is a highly recognised household name in boxing; he has worked with countless popular boxers across the different weight divisions. One of his most notable successes came with Welterweight Thomas Hearns who he transformed from a light-hitter to a fighter with devastating punch power, earning him fights against Sugar Ray Leonard and Roberto Duran. He currently works with WBA World Light Middleweight champion, Miguel Cotto who successfully defended his belt earlier this year thanks to his training.

Dr Steel hammer has struggled against opponents similar to Haye in the past; he has suffered knockouts at the hands of swift fighters such as Corrie Saunders and Lamon Brewster. But Steward has promised the Ukrainian champion will not be repeating similar mistakes he made in previous fights and has plans to keep the Briton’s speed to a minimal. Manny said Haye has made a bad mistake to dismiss the speed of Wladimir before he goes toe-to-toe with him as they have been working on a new training regime.

Steward believes the Veteran boxer has experience as a heavyweight and is better prepared from his previous fight with Samuel Peter will be beneficial, on the other hand, the Lambeth born boxer has not had adequate preparation in the lead up to the fight through his heavy one sided victory against Audley Harrison and John Ruiz so Manny can guarantee a landmark 50th knockout victory for the favourite.
