Video: Chagaev, Boytsov and Culcay with big wins!

Former heavyweight champion Ruslan Chagaev (27-1-1, 17 KOs) took a harder than expected eight round unanimous decision over Travis Walker (34-6-1, 28 KOs) in a good action fight on Friday night at the Universum Gym in Hamburg, Germany. The fighters often traded big bombs, but Chagaev did a little more to win by scores of 77-75, 78-75, 77-76. Chagaev is the mandatory challenger for WBA heavyweight champion David Haye. Top 5 heavyweight contender Denis Boytsov (28-0, 23 KOs) showed no ill effects from hand surgery, dropping Mike Sheppard (15-12-1, 8 KOs) twice in round one and twice in round two before the bout was waved off. Time as 1:18. Boytsov is rated WBC#3/WBA #3/IBF #11/WBO #4. After the bout Boytsov said his right hand was fine and he’s ready for Klitschko.

Unbeaten junior middleweight star Golden Jack Culcay (7-0, 4 KOs) scored a unanimous decision over rugged Alexey “The Fish” Ribchev (6-2, 3 KOs) in his first scheduled eight-rounder on Friday night in Hamburg, Germany. Culcay showed great quickness and boxing skills against the aggressive and determined Ribchev, impressing the sold out crowd at the Universum Gym, as well as a worldwide audience watching live on www.bild.de. Scores were 78-74, 79-72, 78-74..

Universum has high hopes for Culcay, who in September 2009 became the first German to win an amateur world championship in 14 years.

Unbeaten heavyweight prospect Manuel Charr (15-0, 8 KOs) won by TKO when Robert Hawkins (23-16, 7 KOs) couldn’t come out for round six. It was rough and sometimes dirty fight with bigger, stronger Charr having the advantage.

2008 Olympic heavyweight gold medalist Rachim Tschachkijew (7-0, 6 KOs) destroyed Chris “Cold Steel” Thomas (17-15-2, 14 KOs) in the first round. A body shot to the breadbasket put Thomas down for the count. Time was 2:59.

Former WBO super middleweight world champion Karoly Balzsay (23-2, 16 KOs) knocked out Misa Nikolic (6-9, 3 KOs) in round four. Time 2:10.

Classy unbeaten Universum super featherweight Marcel Meyerdiercks (18-0, 5 KOs) outpointed Philippe Frenois (12-2-1, 0 KOs) over ten rounds in a bout that figured to go the distance. Scores were 98-92, 97-95, 96-94.
