World-rated Sydney boxer – Billy ‘The Kid’ Dib is set to open Lonsdale London – Liverpool Westfield Store, Thursday night (09.09.10) at 6.00pm. – The current IBF Pan-Pacific Featherweight champion, fresh off his 6th rd KO victory last week against the former world-title challenger – Ceferino Larbarda steps back into the ring tomorrow night, a different one though to show off his skills for the crowd with a training workout and sparring against a training partner followed by meeting fans, signing autographs, giving away prizes and opening the Lonsdale Liverpool store as a proud Lonsdale ambassador..
Billy has a perfect four from four victory sequence in 2010, all by KO! Lonsdale, the world renowned leader in boxing and streetwear are fantastic supporters of Billy and his quest for world title honours which, at the rate he’s progressed through the rankings in 2010 is only around the corner.
Billy Dib –
“I just want to say thank you for Lonsdale for the support they give me with all my gear, my clothing and it’s a relationship that both my team and I are immensely proud to be a part of. When you go back through the history of boxing, every big name at one time or another wore Lonsdale. It’s an accepted fact, Lonsdale is boxing.”
“Lonsdale have both the gear I need to perform in the ring, but the stylish streetwear out of it and I look forward to seeing everyone at the Liverpool opening. Support Lonsdale and you support Billy ‘The Kid’ and for that, I say a big thanks.”
Dib is firmly on a path to a world title shot and has a busy schedule coming up with another bout next week on Wednesday, September 15th, against the internationally performed – Jack Asis as the main-support bout on the Anthony Mundine card in Wollongong.
The IBF (International Boxing Federation) where Billy is currently rated No. 5 world Featherweight is one of the most prestigious world sanctioning bodies and Billy has rocketed up from No. 12 in the world at the start of 2010 to his current position. The IBF title has been held by great Australian legends such as Fenech, Tszyu, Ellis, Michael, Peden and Darchinyan so, with god-willing, Dib in the near future will have earned his shot to join such an illustrious list of champions
Billy ‘The Kid’ Dib – Thirsting for success!
World-rated Sydney fighter Billy ‘The Kid’ Dib maybe ‘thirsty’ for success, but that literally runs true right now through the holy month for Muslim’s – Ramadan.
The current IBF Pan-Pacific Featherweight champion and IBF world-rated No.4 Featherweight, Dib boasts a 27 win (15 KO’s!) and only 1 loss record. He jumps back in the ring this Thursday night against the former world-title challenger – Ceferino Labarda of Argentina.
Whilst honouring his faith, by the time the richly talented Featherweight enters the ring, Dib would have gone 23 days of Ramadan training and focusing his energies for this important fight, all whilst not eating food or drinking water through daylight hours.
Gym sessions, strength training and sparring have been altered to allow Billy to maintain his strength through what for all Muslims is the holiest of times. The life of a boxer and swearing by scales to make weight has even been made harder this month, but it’s something that Billy has just taken in his stride and focused his energies on working through and achieving the desired outcome this Thursday – knocking out his highly touted opponent and moving one step closer – the IBF world Featherweight title which beckons so close.
A fantastically positive write up by leading writer – Jamie Pandaram appeared in Saturday’s SMH, firmly capturing both the essence of Ramadan and Billy’s goals and can be found at – http://www.smh.com.au/
A fantastic card of boxing action has been brought forth by Grange Old School Boxing and to be nationally televised through Fox Sports (Fight Poster attached). Dib, a firm fan favourite has three (3) KO victories for 2010 from as many bouts views the exciting Labarda as the next opponent to fall on his path to a world-title shot.
Billy Dib –
“It has been a tough month, but nothing that hasn’t been for a reason. I respect all religions and everyone’s individual beliefs and each has their own way of honouring God. For Muslim’s around the world, Ramadan is our time.”
I recently returned from a USA training trip before Ramadan where I trained with the likes of multiple world-champion Celestino Caballero so I’ve been preparing well. I’m excited by my upcoming fight and Labarda’s only loss was to the current world champion – Steve Molitor who himself is a two-time world champion, so for me, this opponent is the class rise both my team and I are looking for right now. I’ve felt strong through 2010 and I think my performances are showing that.”
“A world title shot I know is close, but to be frank, I just want to beat Larbarda and let my manager and trainer organise my opportunities that are building. We have purposely taken a patient approach and we feel it’s really working for us. Plus with my faith guiding me, what will be, is what will be.”
Dib is firmly on a path to a world title shot and has a busy schedule coming up with a further three fights for 2010 in planning for after this bout. The IBF (International Boxing Federation) is one of the most prestigious world titles and Billy has rocketed up from No. 12 in the world at the start of 2010 to his current position of No.4. The IBF title has been held by great Australian legends such as Fenech, Tszyu, Ellis, Michael, Peden and Darchinyan so, with god-willing, Dib in the near future will have earned his shot to join such an illustrious list of champions.
