UK Boxing: Mickey Helliet; Shane Watson; Paul Morby; Alex Dilmaghani

On 25th September at the Flemming Park Leisure Centre, Eastleigh, Southampton, London based promoter Mickey Helliet who manages over 40 boxers including Flywieght sensation Ashley Sexton and Mike Tyson conqueror Danny Williams will have a busy night as ten of his fighters will be boxing on the show which is set to be a highlight of the south coast boxing calendar..

Headlining the event is the local derby showdown between Portsmouth based Paul Morby and Southampton’s Matthew Barney for the vacant Southern Area super-middleweight title. Barney who is managed by Helliet is confident he will win this clash for local bragging rights, he said, “This fight means a lot to both guys and local fight fans are getting behind their men and showing both guys a lot of support.

Other fighters from Helliet’s stable fighting on the same show include explosive welterweight Darryl Still and Mudeford hard man Shane Watson who will be looking to take his number of wins into double figures. Undefeated former Golden Ring boxer, Jon Fernandes, who was a national novice champion with the club will be having his fourth professional fight but losing will not be an option and Fernandes has said that he hopes to put on a crowd pleasing performance and continue his campaign to win titles. Mickey who has managed him since he turned pro shares this belief “Jon has lots of skill and a big heart, he will outclass the majority of boxers in his weight category in the UK and will be gradually stepped up towards championship class”.

However Fernandes will not be the only boxer from Helliet’s stable who will be putting their perfect records on the line as Matty Tew and Mark Atkins will also be fighting. Southampton trainer Wayne Batten’s Millbank Gym has been thriving since he and local promoter Simon Williamson teamed up with Helliet and this has seen a surge in local boxers being given contracts to box professionally. There will also be four boxers making their pro debuts all of whom have impressed in the amateur ranks and are tipped to become stars of tommorow.

Quiet Man Shane Watson Speaks Out

The usually quiet Shane Watson has spoken out and says he will destroy his opponent on 25th September. Watson will face a tough challenge at the Flemming park Leisure Centre, Eastleigh Southampton but the Mudeford hard-hitter promises that he will be more than ready. London based promoter and Watson’s manager Mickey Helliet shares his fighters confidence, “Shane is the kind of fighter that everyone else is scared to fight, he’s tough, fit and hits very hard. Shane loves nothing better than to get on the inside of his opponent and dish out the hurt. I’m looking to step Shane up quite swiftly this year as he is attracting a lot of attention within the industry and will soon be in the reckoning for a title shot” Watson, who works full time and is currently trained by his father in Southampton, has strived to put in the extra hours to get into peak condition in order to ensure a win come the big night.

Undefeated boxer Alex Dilmaghani signs new three year deal with new manager Mickey Helliet

Lightweight prospect Alex Dilmaghani is aiming to cause a splash after moving to Southampton in order to train with up and coming trainer Wayne Batten. The undefeated southpaw from Worthing racked up an amateur career of 15 wins from 16 fights under the tuition of Ronnie Davies who trained British great Chris Eubank. Then In 2009 Dilmaghani turned pro and has been impressive winning his first five fights under the promotional banner of Ricky Hatton’s promotional company Hatton Promotions.

At the tender age of 19 Dilmaghani is set make waves and win titles.

London based promoter Mickey Helliet who manages over 40 boxers including Tyson conqueror Danny Williams and Flyweight sensation Ashley Sexton will have 4 fighters making their professional debuts at the Flemming Park Leisure Centre, Eastleigh, Southampton on 25th September. Floyd Moore, Mark Coombs, Kid Lewis and Jonathon Fry will all look to get their careers off to a good start on what will be a fantastic night of boxing. All four fighters have had successful amateur careers and hopes will be high that that they are able to show class in the professional ranks.

There is a big step up to the pro’s and debuts can sometimes be a daunting task, former middleweight world champion Bernard Hopkins famously lost in his professional debut to unknown Clinton Mitchell. However Helliet is confident all of his new fighters have what it takes ” Im really excited to see how they will all perform because I know they all have the qualities I look for in fighters. They are some of the hottest prospects I’ve seen for a long time and all have the desire and determination needed to be successful in professional boxing.
