Marquez / Vazquez Prove True Carácter During Tecate-Sponsored Fight

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (May 19, 2010) – Tecate, con carácter, is excited to support the fourth encounter and test of character between Mexican boxers Rafael Marquez (38-5-0, 34 KOs) and Israel Vazquez (44-4-0, 32 KOs) at Los Angeles’ Staples Center on May 22. The event will be broadcast live on Showtime at 9 p.m. ET/PT. In support of this event, Tecate has planned a program that will bring boxing fans closer to the action.

Adult consumers in California and Nevada, who cannot attend the fight, can enjoy it from home and receive $20.00 off a 2-month Showtime subscription through Tecate’s mail-in-rebate offer. This is available on Tecate 12-packs or larger. Also, at select retail locations, adults 21 and older can channel the boxer within them and pose along with the Chicas Tecate on a mini boxing ring backdrop. Commemorative posters featuring Marquez and Vazquez will be available as well.

“In boxing, character is measured beyond an individual fight; it’s a combination of passion, boldness, determination, and perseverance. We are proud to support two Mexican athletes who not only embody these traits, but also share these characteristics with our adult consumers,” said Felix Palau, vice president of marketing for Tecate. “As part of our strong commitment to the sport, we will ensure consumers have access to fight information throughout various touch points of their day, through our tailored advertising and radio promotions.”

Boxing fans attending the fight will have an opportunity to visit the recently-launched Tecate Museo de Boxeo; it will be located at Parking Lot #4 of Staples Center on Saturday, May 22. This mobile museum offers guests an opportunity to see memorabilia from some of the most exciting fights of the last decade featuring boxers such as Oscar de la Hoya, Juan Manuel Marquez, Floyd Mayweather Jr., Manny Pacquiao, and Julio Cesar Chavez, among others.
