News: Mikael Zewski; Victor Lupo; Winky Wright

QUÉBEC CITY, CANADA (April 1, 2010) InterBox and TKO Boxing Promotions have confirmed that top welterweight prospect Mikael Zewski will mark his Canadian professional debut on Friday, May 28th as he returns to his home province to battle at the Pepsi Coliseum in Quebec City. The 21 year old native of Trois-Rivières, Quebec, will be the featured undercard bout to the highly anticipated showdown between legendary Quebec former world champion Eric Lucas and perennial contender Librado Andrade. The rest of the undercard will be stacked with Quebec City boxers Pier-Olivier Côté, Eric Martel and also Benoit Gaudet from Drummondville, Québec..

“I’m very excited to be fighting in Quebec City on May 28th on the same card as Eric Lucas. He is a hero to many people in Quebec and for many years I have watched and admired him and truly look forward to fighting on the same card as him.” said Zewski.

This past Thursday night, March 25th, Zewski stayed perfect in his young professional career stopping Mexico’s Moses Alvizo as part of FIGHT NIGHT AT THE COMMERCE 2 in Los Angeles, California. With devastating power from both hands doing damage throughout the first two rounds, Zewski earned the stoppage when Alvizo elected not to return for the third stanza.

Impressing the huge broadcast audience on Canada’s “Super Channel” along with the packed house at the Commerce Casino, Zewski improved to 2-0-0, both wins coming by knockout.

Continued Zewski, “I’m much more comfortable fighting as a professional than as an amateur as I believe it suits my style much better, hopefully the knockouts will keep coming.”

Said Chet Koerner, President of TKO Boxing Promotions, “Mikael is one of the fastest rising stars in boxing. The fans in Los Angeles were just stunned by his punching power and the audiences watching on “Super Channel” have gotten an opportunity to watch one of the best prospects in the sport.

“Mikael brings an electricity to the ring that the fans at the Pepsi Coliseum will be thrilled to be a part of.”

Further details about Zewski’s bout will be announced shortly.

Canadian Welterweight Champ Victor Lupo Returns to Montreal Eyeing Redemption This Saturday

TORONTO – March 31, 2010 – It’s been over two years since Victor Lupo (17-1-2, 9 KO’s) last fought in Canada’s national hotbed of boxing, the Province of Quebec.

And despite the fact that Lupo stopped native son Leonardo Rojas in Montreal ’s Bell Centre in February of 2008 to claim the Canadian
Welterweight championship, the Romanian-born Toronto resident is returning to boxing-crazed Montreal with a point to prove.

After going undefeated (16-0-1, 8 KO’s) to start his professional career, Lupo has been relatively underwhelming in his last three fights, going 1-1-1 since November of 2007, including the tougher-than-anticipated win over Rojas, as well as his first career loss (MD 8 to Paul Clavette), and a surprising draw to unheralded Mexican Ulises Jimenez.

When Lupo steps in with the upset-minded Antonio Soriano (15-10-2, 10 KO’s) this Saturday at the Casino de Montreal, it’ll be to erase all doubts, and to recapture the attention of the boxing world.

A victory over Soriano could set up a showdown with undefeated Kevin Bizier (9-0, 6 KO’s), of Sainte-Emile, Quebec (also set to appear Saturday on the card at Casino de Montreal) for Lupo’s Canadian title, or perhaps even a shot at Junior Witter when the former WBC Junior Welterweight champion debuts at 147 lbs.

“There’s been a lot of talk about Bizier wanting a piece of Lupo, but so far it’s been nothing but media fodder,” said Zoran Konevic, President of World Champion Group (WCG).

“But if Victor looks good, and Bizier gets by his man Saturday, I think negotiations will start in earnest.”

Getting by Soriano, however might appear easier on paper, then in reality.

Soriano had lost four fights in a row, and seven of ten, before shockingly holding then undefeated super-slugger Tyrone Brunson to a draw in August of 2008, and has since won three of four, including two straight.

WINKY” WRIGHT & LITTLE ANNIE’S HOST THE “GET WRIGHT” BLOCK PARTY

Event Aims to Motivate Las Vegas Youth And Serve As A “Call to Action” For Absentee Fathers

(Las Vegas, NV – April 1, 2010) Future Hall of Fame Boxer, “Winky” Wright, and Las Vegas’ premiere childcare provider, Little Annie’s, team up with the National Fatherhood Initiative for the “Get Wright” Block Party on April 30th. Little Annie’s executives and Wright organized the event to encourage the youth to “Get Wright” or realize their potential. Wright will personally share his encouraging journey in the boxing world in hopes of inspiring the children to achieve their goals.

The event will also serve a call to action for absentee fathers to “Get Wright” by assuming their responsibilities. Little Annie’s provides services for many children of single-mothers, however, the presence of fathers is lacking. Wright says, “I think Little Annie’s is doing a great job in the community and with these children. We want them to have a good time at the party but our goal is to help the kids see their greatness despite their circumstance. It hurts to see them suffer with no fathers guiding them. This event isn’t to pass judgment but to show the impact these men can have just from being in their child’s lives.” Additionally, single-fathers will be honored at the event to highlight their hard work and help serve as positive examples of paternal impact

“It’s all relative for these kids” says Little Annie’s Director, Francis Thompson. “There are many women doing their best alone, yet, a father’s role cannot be filled by them. The absence of the father plays into the children’s self esteem and self worth. I’m glad we’ve found a fun way to speak to the youth and further the “duty” dialogue among the men.”

“Fathers play a unique and irreplaceable role in their children’s lives,” said Roland C. Warren, president of National Fatherhood Initiative. “With 24 million children growing up in father-absent homes today, Little Annie’s and Winky Wright are to be applauded for their efforts to inspire their community to help men become involved, responsible, and committed fathers.” The National Fatherhood Initiative will provide resources and information at the event for those who are actively seeking ways to rebuild their father-child relationship.

The event is open to the public and will be held from 4pm – 6pm at Little Annie’s, 1720 West Bonanza Road, Las Vegas, NV.
