Friday fights for the UK

By Adam Fillingham – Last week it was Frank Warren. This week is the turn of Ricky Hatton’s promotional company “Hatton Promotions”. With three title fights on the bill and many British prospects this looks like a night to look forward to.

Scott Lawton 27(6)-5(3)-1 Vs Leva Kirakosyan 31(21)-5(2)-0 – Vacant European Super Featherweight Title

In only his second super featherweight bout, Scott Lawton will already be fighting for the European title at his new weight.. After losing five bouts and drawing one at lightweight Lawton is hoping for a fresh start at this weight. He won his first fight at super featherweight with a TKO win over British contender Derry Mathews.

Lawton will be fighting the ex European champion Kirakosyan, who is hot on a five fight winning streak after losing in his second defence of the European belt. The Russian will not be an easy task as he has only been knocked out in two of his five defeats.

Chris Edwards 13(4)-14(3)-3 Vs Abmerk Shindjuu 7(2)-2(0)-2

Vacant Commonwealth Flyweight Title

Underrated ex British and Commonwealth champion Chris Edwards will get the chance to get his belt back when he takes on the inexperienced Nabian, Abmerk Shindjuu. In Edwards’ last fight he lost his British title to Shinny Bayaar via a controversial split decision. Edwards’ record may not look the best but do not underestimate this man’s ability.

Gary Buckland 17(6)-1(0)-0 Vs Sam Rakundo 15(6)-0(0)

Commonwealth lightweight title final eliminator

Gary Buckland is hot on a three fight winning streak. Sam Rakundo is undefeated in fifteen fights. Buckland is the ex Welsh and Celtic champion. Rakundo is the ex African champion. This fight is for the mandatory position for the commonwealth belt. This one could be a cracker.

Danny McIntosh 10(4)-1(1)-0 Vs Tony Oakey 29(8)-4(1)-1

English Light Heavyweight Title

In my opinion the most exciting fight on the card is between ex British challenger and English champion Danny McIntosh and former Commonwealth and British champion Toney Oakey. Danny McIntosh’s last fight was one of no success. He lost his undefeated record and lost to rival Nathan Cleverly for the Vacant British title. Toney Oakey has had a career full of ups and downs and recently won the light heavyweight version of the “prizefighter” tournament. This will be the fight to look out for tonight.
