WBO#8 heavyweight contender Brian “The Beast” Minto (33-2 21kos) will face undefeated WBC#13 contender Donnell “The Real Touch of Sleep” Holmes (31-0-2) for the interim WBO NABO heavyweight title on Friday August 14th at Pullman Park in Butler, Pennsylvania. A winner of six straight and 15 of his last 16, Minto will also put his WBA Fedecentro heavyweight title on the line..
The hardhittin’ Holmes, a former WBC Continental Americas’ champion, has claimed 27 knockout victims in his 31 pro wins. The show will be Minto’s second appearance at the historic Pullman Park baseball stadium. Last July 2nd, Minto Ko’d John Poore (20-2) in the main event on ESPN2’s Wednesday Night Fights before several thousand spectators at the renovated ballpark. Promoted by Beatdown Promotions and beginning at 7pm, the undercard will feature 7 bouts involving prospects from western Pennsylvania. The World Boxing Council joins the family of Arturo Gatti during these difficult times of sorrow for the senseless passing away of a boxing hero and one of the most recognized fighters of recent decades who passed away in Brazil. Arturo will always be remembered for having the heart of a lion and his unforgettable wars with many great fighters of his era, such as the Micky Ward trilogy, his battles with Ivan Robinson, and many others.
Arturo became WBC super lightweight champion and defended his belt two times before losing to Floyd Mayweather, and was a true honor to the WBC at all times.
Our heart goes to Arturo’s family and friends, and especially to his manager, Pat Lynch, and Kathy Duva and Carl Moretti at Main Events, who always treated Arturo like a son.
We pray to the Almighty God that Arturo is now resting in peace and that his family receives prompt resignation.
