BEAUTIFUL BRUTALITY! CUJO BEATS THE BULL IN LYNCHBURG!
Fighting in front of a packed house at The Lynchburg Armory, Bedford, VA’s Scott “CUJO” Sigmon pounded out a hard fought 8 round unanimous decision over Charleston, SC’s Toris “THE BULL” Brewer. Officials scores were 78-74, 78-74, and 77-75. With the win Sigmon improves to 6-1, 2KO’s while Brewer’s ledger now sits at 14-3, 6KO’s.
Sigmon began the fight intent on establishing his jab. By the middle of the round Sigmon began following the jab with straight right hands and left hooks. One of those right hands caused Brewer to retreat to the ropes and cover up. Sigmon jumped on Brewer and immediately went to his body and back upstairs to the head trying to finish off his opponent. Brewer fired back with a straight right of his own that momentarily kept Sigmon at bay.
Sigmon put on a tremendous display for the raucous crowd in attendance at The Lynchburg Armory. Lynchburg, VA has not had a professional boxing match in 27 years but even then it is safe to say they didn’t see a fighter as exciting, relentless, and undeniably entertaining as Scott “CUJO” Sigmon. Throwing over 100 punches per round, many of them huge right hands and left hooks, Sigmon battered Brewer throughout the eight round contest. But this is not to say that it was a one sided fight. It was not. The Bull would fire back with big shots of his own but he just could not keep Sigmon off of him for most of the fight. Brewer was a game opponent but Sigmon’s tenacity helped him sweep most of the rounds in the fight. By the end of the fight Brewer sensed that he must be behind on the scorecards and went for the knockout. Brewer found Sigmon a willing target and the two exchanged punches during the latter rounds. Brewer was landing effective punches but Sigmon landed punches that effectively hurt Brewer, and a lot of them, which enabled Sigmon to gain the hard fought 8 round unanimous decision.
After the scorecards were read Brewer, claiming a hometown decision for Sigmon, asked Cujo for a rematch. Cujo grabbed the microphone and announced, “Toris Brewer wants a rematch. He’s not getting a rematch. He just had me and he couldn’t do (bleep) about it!”
The undercard saw William “THE STORM” Bailey defeat “EL GUERRO” Juan Carlos Robles by unanimous decision in a 6 round cruiserweight matchup. Scores were 58-56, 58-56, and 59-55 for Bailey. Robles falls to 12 and 3, 5KO’s. Two of Robles’ three losses have come to Bailey who raises his record to 10-16, 5KO’s. Said Bailey after the decision was announced, “I’ve got his number.”
The knockout punch of the night was landed by Roanoke, VA’s David “D-Hop” Hopkins against The Outer Banks, NC’s David “Do Or Die” Derby. A crushing right hand by Hopkins left Derby in a heap face down on the canvas in the third round. Derby was taken to a nearby hospital for observation but was later released with a clean bill of health under his own power.
If it weren’t for the Sigmon-Brewer Main Event, the fight of the night would have been Roanoke, VA’s Dwayne Davis against Palm Bay, FL’s Richard Grant. The two fought at a ferocious pace for the duration of their 4 round middleweight bout. In round two the two exchanged right hands which caused the rarest of occurrences in boxing, a double knockdown. But the referee only ruled a knockdown for Grant and began counting Davis. Round three saw Grant land a huge right hand that froze Davis momentarily in his corner. But the game Davis fired back in round 4 and took the round. When the judges’ scorecards were read it was announced that Richard Grant was the winner by unanimous decision over the very game Dwayne Davis in thrilling 4 round war.
The opening bout of the evening saw a chiseled Francois “The African Warrior” Ambang, Richmond, VA, pound out a 4 round unanimous decision over the debuting Darryl Johnson from Charleston, SC in a cruiserweight contest.
The walkout bout of the evening saw Ivanhoe, NC’s Donnell “The Real Touch of Sleep” Holmes stop Danville, VA’s Curtis Taylor in the second round of their heavyweight bout.
