Floyd Mayweather Sr Says If Hatton And Mayweather Jr Fight Rematch He Will Be In Ricky’s Corner

by James Slater – Back when Oscar De La Hoya fought Floyd Mayweather Junior, Floyd Senior did not work his fighter, De La Hoya’s corner. “I will not train a fighter to beat my son,” Mayweather Snr said, understandably. The two had already had their differences back then in 2007 and long before, but Senior would not go as far as working with a rival fighter who was planning to beat up on “Little Floyd.” This is not the case anymore, though..

In speaking to Sky Sports recently, Mayweather, now working with Ricky Hatton, made it clear where he will be should his son make his anticipated return to the ring and then box “The Hitman” for a second time – he will be in Hatton’s corner, working with him against his offspring.

“That’s where I’ll be [in Ricky’s corner], exactly where I’ll be,” Mayweather Senior said. “Little Floyd is back in the gym but I’m not concerned about when he is fighting, I’m training Ricky Hatton now. Me and my son had a fall-out and I’m going to let it be that way.”

As anyone who saw any of the HBO 27-7 shows that featured the feuding Mayweather clan, Floyd Senior and Junior really do have some issues with one another, and now it seems the two will never come together again, even in a sporting way. What would “Money” be thinking if he were to see his father on the other side of the ring, giving a rival fighter instructions on how to beat him or maybe even knock him out? Angry, is probably the answer.

A Mayweather-Hatton rematch may never actually happen; after all, Hatton has to deal with the superb Manny Pacquiao first. But if it does it’s a gimme the 24-7 build-up shows that precede the fight will be explosive indeed!

Mayweather Senior went on to say how much of a good relationship he and Hatton have together, and how much he has improved the Manchester warrior since he’s worked with him.

“Ricky is a much better fighter than before, you can see a big difference in him,” Floyd Senior said. “He is a real fast learner and is one of the best students I ever had. He had quality but no-one brought it out of him. This is just our second camp working together and he does a tremendous job. It has been very nice working with Ricky. He’s a genuine person and we are pretty close but we are totally different and opposites attract.

“We are like night and day but he understands and respects me and I understand and respect him. As long as we keep things like that we will have a real nice relationship.”

Judging by this revelation by Floyd Senior, he and his son will not be having a nice relationship with each other any time soon.
