Carl Froch-Jermain Taylor On At Last?

boxingby James Slater – There has been talk of Carl Froch and Jermain Taylor fighting for months now. Indeed, the name calling, the accusations of ducking and the stalled negotiations have been well documented when it comes to these two top super-middleweights. Froch has wanted the fight from day one, but he isn’t so sure the former middleweight champion has; even going as far as claiming the Arkansas man sought to avoid him. This is not so, though, according to the trainer of “Bad Intentions,” Ozell Nelson.

Speaking late last night to the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, Nelson confirmed for the publication that the Taylor Vs. Froch fight is indeed on, and that the two 168-pounders will square off in April, either on the 18th or on the 25th. The fight will also take place inside the US and will be televised in the States by Showtime. The two will, of course, meet for the WBC title currently held by “The Cobra,” the world title being won in a sensational and hard-fought war with Canada’s Jean Pascal in December of last year. Now, according to Nelson, Froch will make defence # 1 against his fighter..

This is great news for fans of the super-middleweight division. A great fight in prospect, the clash of styles of the two boxers involved will pretty much make sure the bout is a fan-friendly affair.

Nelson spoke about how much his fighter wants this fight, and to become world champion again.

“It’s for the belt,” Nelson said upon confirming Froch Vs. Taylor. “Jermain can get his belt back, and it will keep him hungry. He had the belt, and he lost it. He’s hungry again. Jermain wants to be champion. He said any way possible, make it happen.”

Taylor, of course, was the WBC middleweight champion, so he won’t actually be getting his belt back if he defeats Froch. Still, it’s clear what Nelson means – Taylor has his “Bad Intentions” back again.

Nelson also touched on what he calls the trash talk that has been coming from Froch recently, saying this merely makes Team Taylor more determined to win the fight.

“Carl Froch talked all that trash,” Nelson said. “That makes it even more important to beat him. “We’re probably going to need some good security when they first meet.”

The pre-fight build-up for this one could well prove lively, what with the defending champion already having gone on record as saying he will “smoke Taylor’s boots” if and when the two meet in the ring. However, Froch, who has had his share of disappointments during his career, isn’t totally convinced the fight is set in stone just yet.

“Let’s wait and see if he [Taylor] comes good,” The champion said.

It seems as though he has, and let’s hope so.
